Gene Fusion System: Crime Hunter-Chapter 644 - 316: The Troubled Life of the Female Doctor_2
But all of this turned into a tragedy in the wind with the presence of that cold body.
The bun in Luo Fei's hand ultimately remained untouched.
His palm hovered in the air, just like He Xin and Xiaocheng beside him, shocked by the scene and filled with confusion inside.
"It's not right, a promising female Ph.D. student, why would she die outside the village?"
"No, something's very wrong."
Luo Fei pondered as he glanced back at the information above.
It also recorded Ma Yeni's family information: her father named Ma Tao, she had a younger brother named Ma Yehui, and her mother passed away when they were young, leaving their father to raise them alone.
"A single-parent family, it's certainly not easy to achieve so much, and seeing their family situation, all the efforts in her later education must have come from this girl herself."
"It's a pity, she was only twenty-eight this year, such a pity."
Luo Fei continued to sigh while looking at the information in his hand, but his eyes suddenly became puzzled.
Even if such a female Ph.D. occasionally returned to her hometown to visit relatives, there shouldn't be any problem, but why did she die there? Who did it?
"What about the relatives?"
"Have they contacted her father and brother?"
He Xin and Xiaocheng beside him shook their heads. They had used all available contact information, but either the calls couldn't go through or were busy, and there was no way to reach them.
They didn't even know if the father and son were still in the village.
This strange situation made Luo Fei curious.
It is understandable if Ma Yeni's brother might be working outside or otherwise engaged away from the village.
But according to the information, her elderly father was just living the life of a typical old farmer, digging here and there in the village, so how could he be so busy as to even overlook such a major incident with his daughter?
Given the commotion in the village yesterday afternoon, the news should have spread throughout the entire village by now.
Coupled with the villagers' gossip and private discussions, Ma Tao, as Ma Yeni's father, couldn't possibly have had no reaction.
Under normal circumstances, if a father can't contact his daughter and hears about such a tragedy through village rumors, he would undoubtedly go to the police to identify the body.
This is only human nature!
But everything contradicted what Luo Fei thought, bizarre…
"Let's visit Ma Yeni's school, start by understanding the victim's identity, maybe we'll discover something."
"Okay."
Before taking action, Luo Fei even called Lin Jie to verify the situation.
Last night, they were basically in a state of surveillance, finding an abandoned post house nearby to light a fire and take turns standing watch.
They kept watch at the village entrance to prevent anyone from leaving at night.
Fortunately, the overall situation hadn't changed, and as of now, only a couple of farmers had come and gone, driving carts to the fields.
Luo Fei expressed his deep appreciation and reminded them to also take care of their health, assuring them he would return by today at the latest.
As this case's biggest suspect still lay within the village.
Arriving at the school where Ma Yeni studied, Luo Fei successfully met with her Ph.D. advisor.
The advisor was an elderly man with a head full of white hair but full of vigor.
Though over fifty, he gave an impression of abundant energy and lively spirit.
The elder was somewhat surprised by the police's visit, and after hearing about Ma Yeni's incident, he was almost struck by a bolt of lightning, nearly fainting on the spot.
This frightened the group, and after some effort of pinching and soothing, they managed to bring him back around.
The elder's surname was Zhao, a respected professor at the school.
He held a significant academic reputation, being well-known in the education sector of Jiangzhou City.
"Officer, you say Xiaoma, she's gone…"
Hearing Professor Zhao's choked voice, Luo Fei and others nodded solemnly.
It was evident that a paternal bond had been formed between him and Ma Yeni.
Upon receiving the affirmative reply, Professor Zhao sighed deeply, as if he had aged several years, and sank into the sofa.
His eyes were vacant, with tears streaming down as he murmured words of praise for her.
Luo Fei and the others could do nothing but quietly accompany the old professor for a while.
After he had barely recovered, he expressed with a painful look that he would cooperate with anything needed.
"Professor Zhao, we'd like to understand how Ma Yeni was doing at school normally and if there were any anomalies in her daily life."
"Xiaoma performed excellently at school, spending her time either earnestly studying or diligently working, mostly due to her poor family background, so she worked and studied simultaneously, earning money to support her family since her graduate studies."
Professor Zhao was quite familiar with his beloved student.
However, saying these words touched upon his sense of longing and he was once again reduced to tears.
Upon hearing this, Luo Fei captured a crucial point.
"After Ma Yeni's incident, there has been no word from her family at all. We're not sure how much you know about her relations with her family, but we'd like to gather more information."
"Her family?"
"Humph!"
It seemed the mention of this topic disgusted the esteemed professor, one who usually bore a cultured demeanor.
"Her father isn't worthy of being called one, constantly asking his daughter for money and even causing a scene at the school. Though poor, Xiaoma kept her will. Her father, however, was utterly disappointing."
"The impoverished bring forth noble offspring, and Xiaoma's performance is praiseworthy. Yet, her father, acting like a vampire, not only demanded money from his daughter but also required financial support for his worthless brat."
Hearing this, the group exchanged glances.
To force an old professor to swear was no easy task indeed.
The "waste" mentioned should refer to Ma Tao's son, Ma Yeni's brother, Ma Yehui.
"Professor, with her father behaving so outrageously, did she show no resistance?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Spike like this again touched on a sore spot for him.
The professor's eyes began to fill with tears again, filled with both heartache and a sense of injustice.
"Xiaoma was impeccable, so kind-hearted. Even when oppressed by her rotten family like that, she never gave up on them."
With these words, Luo Fei and others finally understood.
Ma Yeni's family issues were indeed severe, making the possibility of a crime instigated by ethical conflicts greater.
They would need to thoroughly investigate her family's situation upon revisiting the village.
"Officer, no matter who harmed Xiaoma, I hope you will seek justice for this child. Such a young life lost, my heart aches."
"Rest assured, professor."
Luo Fei replied firmly.
"We will solve this case and provide an explanation to you and to Ma Yeni."
"Thank you."
The old professor offered a most respectful bow, a senior showing such a gesture illustrating the depth of his sorrow and the weight of his grief.
The three of them stopped troubling him and prepared to leave.
As they walked through the school hallway, Xiaocheng suddenly received a message from the office.
"Team Leader Luo, there's new information."
"Last night, I thoroughly reviewed Ma Yeni's account information and her personal property records, but these could only be updated after the bank opened this morning. Now it's all been organized, and I've sent it over."
"Okay."
Luo Fei and He Xin opened their phones together, looking at the contents of the email which prompted a silence.
Indeed, there was a problem!
The records noted that four or five days ago, her account had new changes, transferring nearly over a hundred thousand yuan outward, leaving just interest now.
A personal credit card and scholarship card belonging to Ma Yeni showed no changes.
Having that much money as a female Ph.D. isn't unusual, but having posthumous transfer records is absurd!
