Gasp! She's a Time Traveler Using Modern Tech to Improve Ancient Life-Chapter 506 - 505: Indecisive
After checking all the messages on WeChat and replying where necessary, Lin Wanwan finally opened the chat with Lu Shouyue.
Their chat history was still stuck a month ago. Coincidentally, as soon as she opened it, a message popped up from the other side.
"Wanwan, I’m hosting a party at Laiyue Bar today, all day. Are you free to drop by?"
Lin Wanwan didn’t reply immediately because she hadn’t decided whether to go.
She put her phone down and walked to the window to look at the gray sky outside.
"Ugh! Should I go or not?" Lin Wanwan hesitated between attending and having her cousin Su Yanwei handle the gift delivery for her.
Actually, she wasn’t too keen on facing Lu Shouyue. His lack of contact in the past month left her both disappointed and somewhat relieved.
Standing by the window for a few minutes, still unable to resolve her dilemma, Lin Wanwan simply turned around, left the room, and went downstairs to walk her dog.
Now that she had a German Shepherd named Fugui, Lin Wanwan had to find time to walk him daily. Otherwise, he’d become idle and depressed after the intense training.
Before she even reached the door, Fugui’s sharp ears had already caught her footsteps, and he stood up, squeezed out of his warm doghouse, and ran to the airy balcony of his dog villa, staring at the front door.
In the next second, the electronic lock on the door clicked, the door opened, and Lin Wanwan appeared.
Fugui grabbed the leash with his mouth and ran over to Lin Wanwan, handing it over to her.
Lin Wanwan reached out to take it, patted Fugui’s head, and laughed, "So smart! Let’s go, the snow has stopped now. I’ll take you for a walk."
After securing the leash to Fugui, the pair walked out of the villa, with Fugui remembering to turn around and grab the yard gate handle to close it.
This well-trained dog’s sense of responsibility was truly unbeatable. Lin Wanwan watched Fugui’s actions like a proud mother.
There were quite a few people exercising early in the community, unaffected by the cold snowy day.
Older folks generally slept lightly and gathered in the community’s exercise area by five or six, practicing Tai Chi, singing opera, and playing the erhu—very lively.
Most of the residents in this villa area were these older folks. If there were more young people living there, they’d be driven to madness by the early morning noise.
Lin Wanwan walked Fugui along the paths in the community, meeting many familiar faces. Seven or eight out of ten people she met were either former rural neighbors or members of the Lin clan.
"Wanwan, you’re up early again, walking Fugui?"
"Yeah, I am!"
"Your Fugui is so clever. When he has puppies, give me one to raise."
"Uh, Fugui’s male; he can’t have puppies."
As Lin Wanwan walked, she casually chatted with the familiar older folks in the community.
Though Fugui wasn’t that interested in walks, it was still better than being confined to the yard.
When Lin Wanwan didn’t have any tasks for him, and rarely anyone visited the house, Fugui was just too idle.
Lin Wanwan wasn’t the only one with a dog in this community. Since two theft incidents last month, the number of dogs in the community had increased.
Therefore, while walking the dog, it was common to meet others doing the same.
It’s a rural habit not to use a leash when walking dogs.
As she passed an artificial lake in the community, Fugui saw a Golden Retriever leisurely crossing a bridge without a leash. He barked twice, then grabbed his own leash from Lin Wanwan’s hand, leapt to the narrow path on the other side of the lake.
After jumping, he barked twice at the Golden Retriever on the bridge and kept hopping back and forth.
The Golden Retriever squatted on the bridge, confused and aggrieved, looking at Fugui, as if hit by a ton of hurt.
Lin Wanwan and the Golden Retriever’s owner nearby couldn’t help but laugh; the owner even pulled out his phone to record a video of the dogs, saying as he filmed, "This is hilarious! I’ll post it on Douyin!"
After scoffing at the Golden Retriever who relied on the bridge to cross the lake, Fugui picked up his leash and brought it back to Lin Wanwan, strutting away with a proud look as if to say he wasn’t associating with silly dogs.
"Wow, your dog is so perceptive!" The Golden Retriever’s owner exclaimed excitedly.
"He is," Lin Wanwan replied with a light smile, taking Fugui back home.
By this time, the sky had brightened, and today’s dog-walking session was over.
Back in the yard, Lin Wanwan removed the leash from Fugui’s collar, and he dutifully carried it back to his dog villa.
Back upstairs, Lin Wanwan picked up her phone again, having made her decision: "Sorry, Mr. Lu, I’m not feeling well today and can’t attend the party. Happy Birthday, wishing you the best year after year!"
After sending the message, she could see the other side was continuously typing, but after a while, nothing happened—not even a reply.
Lin Wanwan closed the chat window with him and called her cousin Su Yanwei.
"Hey Wanwan, what’s up, calling me so early?"
"Can you take a day off today? I need your help with something."
"I happen to have a day off today. What’s up? Tell me."
"Today is Mr. Lu’s birthday. He’s hosting a party at Laiyue Bar on the Bund, all day. Can you help me deliver a gift?"
"What? Wanwan, you’re not going to Lu’s birthday party?"
"No, I’m not going. If he asks, just say I’m sick. Please deliver the gift to him personally; it’s quite valuable."
"Oh, alright... but Wanwan, why aren’t you going? Mr. Lu is pretty good."
Su Yanwei truly couldn’t understand Lin Wanwan’s decision. Not only was Lu Shouyue Lu Xingjian’s son, but his own professional realm was amazing, and he was tall, handsome, and had a great temperament.
Being the third generation of a wealthy family and still keeping himself clean—such a one-in-a-million quality man, yet his sister wanted to reject him?!
Indeed, even though Lin Wanwan hadn’t stated it outright, by claiming illness and not attending his birthday party, the intention was clear.
Su Yanwei wasn’t foolish; as a salesperson, he was adept at reading between the lines.
Lin Wanwan sighed, "Don’t ask. Come get the gift from my place when you’re up."
"Alright. I’ll contact you in a bit." Su Yanwei genuinely felt it was a pity; Lu Shouyue was so suitable for his cousin!
Sometimes, if you miss someone, the regret is endless!
Chen Yan, who had stayed overnight at his rented apartment, overheard the conversation on the leaky phone and asked, surprised, "Is your cousin fighting with Lu Shouyue?"
"Maybe, I don’t know."
Chen Yan rolled her eyes and asked again, "What gift should be sent? I can go with you?"
Su Yanwei laughed and declined, "No need, I’ll drop it off and return. Besides, don’t you have work? I’ll drop you off at work first and then go to Wanwan’s home."
"Alright then."
