Gasp! She's a Time Traveler Using Modern Tech to Improve Ancient Life-Chapter 412 - 409: The Storm Subsides
The storm raged the whole night until the wind and rain weakened at dawn.
That night, little Qingyu didn’t sleep with Lin Wanwan but squeezed in with a few girlfriends, while Lin Tiezhu and the little crab slept in another room.
Initially, when Lin Wanwan agreed to let little Qingyu sleep with her friends, she expected that Qingyu would come crying to her halfway through the night. She didn’t even dare go back to modern times, just waiting to welcome her little treasure and show her motherly love.
But as it turned out, little Qingyu was exhausted from playing with her girlfriends in the children’s suite next to the master bedroom and fell asleep soundly, without a hint of missing or regretting not sleeping with Lin Wanwan. Instead, it was Lin Wanwan herself who tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep!
This really wasn’t the child unable to leave the adult, but the adult unable to leave the child.
The child is growing up day by day, while the adult is still immersed in the stage where she is just a little blob who knows nothing, can do nothing, and wholeheartedly relies on her.
In fact, the child’s ability to think independently is becoming stronger, and the day for the fledgling to leave the nest is drawing closer.
Lin Wanwan felt melancholic. How did her little Jade grow up so fast? In just two more months, she’ll be six!
As the sky was just getting light, Lin Taohua, the eldest of Lin Mengjin’s family, who was used to getting up early to help with chores, woke up first.
The kids only had a small blanket over their bellies. It’s a typhoon day, neither cold nor hot, making the temperature quite comfortable.
Lin Taohua stared with big eyes at the white mosquito net on top of the bed, feeling a bit out of worldly thoughts.
The lingering scent of sandalwood mosquito repellent from burning all night still floated into the bed, and Lin Taohua sniffed the air hard, finding it extremely pleasant.
Sleeping in this soft and aromatic bed, Lin Taohua felt like she was dreaming and didn’t want to get up.
Little Qingyu always sleeps deeply, and moreover, it’s not yet her biological clock’s wake-up time, coupled with last night’s late play. Now she is sleeping sweetly without any sign of waking.
Lin Taohua lingered a little longer in bed, glanced at her sleeping sisters, and touched Qingyu’s nightdress with envy, carefully lifted the mosquito net, and got out of bed.
In a farmhouse, there’s nothing like sleepwear, having a decent dress to cover oneself counts as a good condition.
Therefore, what Lin Taohua was wearing while sleeping was her daily attire, unlike the pure white, aristocratic style nightdress of little Qingyu.
After getting out of bed, Lin Taohua walked barefoot to the door, and as soon as she opened it, Yun Shang, sleeping on the outer couch, got up after hearing the movement.
"Taohua madam, why are you getting up so early? It’s not even daylight yet." Yun Shang asked Lin Taohua while tidying her sleeping couch.
Lin Taohua whispered, "Aunt Yun Shang, I’m going to feed the chickens and ducks at home."
"What, is this chore yours to do?"
"Yes, I also want to check how things are at home and lend a hand to my father."
Yun Shang glanced at the sky outside and said, "Now the wind and rain have lessened, but the rain hasn’t stopped yet. Taohua madam, why don’t you rest here and wait for your father to come for you? I suppose today’s situation is special, and the adults at home will be busy anyway."
Lin Taohua shook her head firmly, "My father doesn’t know where to put the chickens’ feed, I must go back."
After saying this, she pushed the door and walked towards the staircase in the dark.
Yun Shang quickly grabbed a firestarter, chased after her, and lit a wall-mounted glazed oil lamp. The warm yellow light lengthened Lin Taohua’s small shadow.
Yun Shang escorted her downstairs, where they ran into the early-rising Hua Nong and Hong Yan, who had already washed and tidied up.
"Taohua madam wishes to go home and feed the chickens and ducks. Hong Yan, find a small raincoat for her and send someone to accompany her." Yun Shang instructed.
"Oh, alright. So early to go back? Hua Nong is about to prepare breakfast." Hong Yan replied.
Hearing about breakfast, Lin Taohua secretly swallowed but still insisted, "I want to go home first, I’ll return to pick up my brothers and sisters later."
Hong Yan smiled and said, "Okay."
Then she led Lin Taohua away, while Yun Shang naturally turned and briskly went upstairs.
Even though it’s unlikely that Qingyu and Lin Wanwan will wake up at this time.
But just in case, she always had to stay on guard.
As she passed Rongrong’s sleeping cot, Yun Shang softly called her to get up too. Once little Qingyu wakes up, Rongrong can’t help much, but she can prepare clothes, toothbrush and toothpaste.
A close maid naturally has to learn from an early age how to serve the mistress. Without a mishap, when little Qingyu gets married in the future, Rongrong would follow her.
On this side, Lin Taohua, wearing little Qingyu’s finely crafted raincoat, with the big straw hat she brought yesterday, braved the drizzle, stepping carefully and steadily on her way home.
Many people were already up in Lin Family Manor at this time, with sounds coming from many homes—though there wasn’t any lighting, as it was nearly dawn and nobody would waste candlelight.
Several houses in the Manor had wisps of smoke rising from the rooftops, indicating that people were up early preparing breakfast.
Along the village path, many were walking in raincoats, all having endured the storm and coming out to see if the typhoon had passed.
"Hey, Taohua, why are you coming out of the Teacher’s house?"
"Uncle, I slept with little Qingyu last night." Lin Taohua courteously replied, looking up.
"Did water leak at home too?"
"Yes."
People on the village path greeted each other and talked about their family’s difficulties over the past few days. In Lin Family Manor, there wasn’t a single household that hadn’t leaked from the rain.
Once little Taohua was escorted into her home’s yard, Lin Wanwan’s servant turned back to Lin Mansion.
He didn’t need to go sea fishing for a living anymore, so why linger outside in the rain when he could join his colleagues in fun?
No matter how flooded the outside was, as long as Lin Mansion was fine, everything was okay.
Their master always treats servants generously. They’ve been able to save a bit of money since coming into the Manor, enough to buy two jars of rough wine to stash away for themselves.
"Dad, are you home?" Lin Taohua called as she pushed the big gate to her home.
Soon, there was movement inside, and Lin Mengjin came to open the door.
"Taohua, why did you come back alone? The house is all waterlogged, what are you doing here?" Mengjin asked while yawning, occasionally scratching at the welts from fierce mosquito bites last night and dabbing a bit of saliva on them with his fingers.
"Dad, I’ve come back to feed my White Feathered Divine Chicken and my egg-laying Divine Duck!"
"Oh, so sensible of you to remember this. Let’s go, let’s check together; seems like the wind outside isn’t too bad now." Lin Mengjin said while leading Lin Taohua to the chicken and duck pens that were built next to the house at the back.
The rooftop had been torn off by the typhoon in several places; the simple grass pens for the poultry likely also suffered. Lin Mengjin didn’t have high hopes.
But when father and daughter reached the back, they found out that the poultry pens hadn’t collapsed! Perhaps because they were small and closely nestled against the house, much of the wind and rain got blocked by the large house, which luckily prevented any harm.
