Gamers Are Fierce-Chapter 82 Announcement
Chapter 82: Chapter 82 Announcement
"Fuck, this damn weather."
Cheng Wen stubbed out his cigarette in the dirty, black ashtray, twisted off the cap of a mineral water bottle, and casually closed the gambling website’s page.
He had a buzz cut and was wearing a tank top and floral shorts. Of average build with not much muscle, his arms and chest were nonetheless covered in colorful dragon tattoos.
His fleshy face featured a pair of fierce, domineering, upturned eyes—he loved using them to stare down at people, watching as they obediently averted their gaze.
Unemployed vagrant, local ruffian, hoodlum, scoundrel—these were Cheng Wen’s labels. Theft, robbery, and extortion were his main occupations.
"Bro, bro! Open up!"
The battered door of the rented room was pounded on, and his brother Cheng Wu’s voice called from outside.
"What the hell are you yelling about!"
Cheng Wen cursed as he stood up and pulled open the door. Cheng Wu, who looked almost like a carbon copy of him, rushed in, slammed the door shut, and shook a piece of paper in Cheng Wen’s face. "Look."
"Look at your ass."
Cheng Wen snatched the paper, frowning as he glanced at it.

Cheng Wen looked up at Cheng Wu. "A hundred thousand?"
"A hundred thousand." Cheng Wu looked a little excited. He pointed at the man’s photograph on the missing person notice and said, "How about we make a call and try our luck? Just give a random address, say we’ve seen traces of this fool. Maybe we can scam a few hundred bucks out of them."
Unfortunately, the missing young man had a crooked eye and a skewed mouth and bore no resemblance whatsoever to Cheng Wen or Cheng Wu. Otherwise, they could have made even more by impersonating him.
"Alright."
Cheng Wen nodded, sat down in his chair, took out his phone, and dialed the number listed on the notice.
RING, RING, RING.
The phone rang for a long time without being answered. Just as Cheng Wen and Cheng Wu were cursing and about to hang up, the call connected.
"Hello! Who is this?!"
An extremely loud old woman’s voice came from the other end. Cheng Wen and Cheng Wu both felt a surge of joy. If they were going to scam someone, elderly women were the easiest targets. Plus, the loud, sluggish voice implied she was hard of hearing and possibly slow-witted too.
Cheng Wen gave a sidelong glance, and Cheng Wu immediately understood. He closed the room’s windows and switched off the bulky old television set perched on a wooden crate in the living room.
Cheng Wen cleared his throat and said loudly into the phone, "Hello? Granny, I have news about Fang Erzhu!"
"What?" The old woman’s voice paused, then burst into an excited cry. "Erzhu? Erzhu! Where are you? Granny has been searching so hard for you..."
Her voice choked up towards the end. It would have stirred pity in the heart of anyone with a conscience. But Cheng Wen and Cheng Wu just exchanged a glance, their eyes brimming with glee.
"Granny," Cheng Wen said loudly, "we saw Erzhu on the road, so we took him home, gave him a bath, and fed him. He was exhausted from walking all day and is asleep now."
The old woman hurriedly said, "Yes! That child just loves to sleep. Let him sleep, don’t wake him."
Cheng Wen slowed his voice. "Granny, I saw on the missing person notice that there’s a reward of one hundred thousand yuan..."
"Yes, yes! Poor Erzhu, that child has been unfortunate since he was little, losing both his father and mother. When he goes missing, it’s only me, this old woman, who goes looking for him. I even had to take out my funeral savings to pay someone to search... Ah, thank goodness, he’s finally been found."
A surge of elation rose in Cheng Wen’s heart. The old woman had no one else at home; this would make things much easier.
He immediately made up his mind and said, "Granny, we need to stay home and keep an eye on Erzhu to stop him from running off. How about you bring the money to our place? Our address is..."
Cheng Wen recited the address and, after confirming several times that the old woman had written it down, hung up the phone.
A hundred thousand yuan was enough for local hooligans like Cheng Wen and Cheng Wu to take a risk. If the old woman was willing to ’cooperate,’ then everything would be perfect. If she didn’t ’cooperate,’ they could still snatch the money and run.
The two waited anxiously in the rented room from afternoon through evening and well into the night, not even bothering to eat.
Cheng Wen waited in the room while Cheng Wu went downstairs to wait on the street corner for the old woman. The two of them chain-smoked several packs of cigarettes, their shoe soles eventually coated with butts and ash.
"Damn it, that old hag isn’t going to bail on us, is she?"
Cheng Wu watched the moon hanging high in the night sky, feeling the cool night breeze, and swatted away the mosquitoes that landed on his hairy arm.
Just as he was complaining, a frail old woman slowly approached from around the corner.
She was short, with a hunched back, dressed simply, and had completely white hair. Her steps were slow, and she clutched a bulging cloth bag tightly in her hand.
As the old woman passed the street corner, she slowly raised her head to look at the street signs. An ecstatic Cheng Wu hurriedly greeted her, making small talk while reaching for the cloth bag.
Unfortunately, the old woman held the bag close to her chest, her eyelids drooping, constantly calling out her grandson’s name.
Fearing the busy street would draw unwanted attention, Cheng Wu quickly helped the old woman into a deep alley. They slowly climbed the uneven concrete staircase of an old residential building.
"Granny, let me carry that for you." Cheng Wu tried to take the cloth bag. As he touched it, he smelled the scent of old clothes. The smell of the elderly.
"No need," the old woman said, turning aside and clutching the bag, her dim eyes somewhat cautious.
"Granny, let me carry that for you!"
The old woman called out loudly in the corridor, "No need! I’m looking for my grandson!"
Her voice was as loud as it had been on the phone. Cheng Wu, fearing other residents in the building might hear, said nothing more. He’d figure out what to do once they got inside the rented room.
He kept silent, but as the old woman slowly ascended the stairs, she kept mumbling, "My grandson, my grandson, Granny’s here to get you, Granny’s here to get you..."
TSK.
Cheng Wu, annoyed by her slow pace, looked around and then spoke softly, "Granny, how about I carry you on my back? It’ll be faster."
"...Okay." The old woman turned around, a faint smile appearing on her pale face as she slowly nodded. freёnovelkiss.com
Cheng Wu turned, squatted down, and lifted his hands behind him. "Hop on."
MMM.
Behind Cheng Wu’s back, out of his sight, the old woman’s neck tilted back. Her mouth opened wide, her jaw stretching to an extreme. Under the dim hallway light, it looked like a torn and gaping shadow puppet.
