Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Why Are You Just Watching

At almost the same instant, Scorching Wings and Reiya crashed into one another. There were no dodges, no tricks.

In a way, both of them were Dragons.

And when imperious Dragons fought each other, they almost always relied on pure, instinctual strength. There was no real reason for it; they were fighting for pride.

’If one were to flee in a duel like this, their life as a Dragon might as well be over, right?!’

Dragons cared more for their dignity than their lives.

"BOOM—"

With an impact that seemed to warp space itself, the colossal Dragon’s hind leg was pierced. It flew backward in pain, crashing onto the edge of the giant crater.

The result of Scorching Wings and Reiya’s first clash was utterly counterintuitive.

The Silver-haired Dragon Lady, not even the size of the Giant Dragon’s toe, had actually managed to stagger the despair-inducing behemoth with just a spear and a fist.

Of course, this was partly due to the Dragon Thunder Eightfold True Damage Critical Strike and Scorching Wings’ poor Status, but a feat was a feat. At least for this brief moment, Reiya’s stats were no longer inferior to Scorching Wings’.

"HISSS—"

Scorching Wings’ claws scraped the ground as it slid across the vitrified surface before coming to a stop. The part of its body that had touched Reiya’s Thunder Spear was already vaporizing. A layer of its supposedly indestructible Scale Armor and flesh had been shaved away into nothing, shaking the Legendary True Dragon to its core.

Before Scorching Wings could even attempt to mend its wounds, Reiya had already activated her Light Wings, descending like a bolt of azure lightning striking the earth.

"BANG—"

She slammed squarely into Scorching Wings’ draconic body once more. Despite the protection of its shields and Scale Armor, the Dragon Thunder that scattered from the impact still sent a bone-deep pain through the Legendary Giant Dragon.

However, Scorching Wings also got a clear look at Reiya’s Status—she was far from at ease. On the contrary, every time she attacked, the Silver-haired Dragon Lady’s arms would be shattered by the impact, with grim white bone faintly visible through her wounds.

’This is a pyrrhic strategy, killing one thousand enemies at the cost of eight hundred of her own men!’

Scorching Wings skimmed low across the ground before soaring into the clouds, continuously chanting Dragon Language Magic to nullify and hinder Reiya’s pursuit. Every time they clashed, a roaring shockwave of light, thunder, and fire would erupt.

’Dragon Thunder... Is this how it punishes our kind? How troublesome.’

In the past, it was always Scorching Wings who suppressed its own kind with its bloodline. Now, it was getting a taste of its own medicine, and the experience was truly bitter. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Furthermore, the suppressive effect of Dragon Thunder was simply too lethal. Any member of the Dragon Race would find it difficult to defy the fear engraved into their very life source.

From Scorching Wings’ perspective, the Silver-haired Dragon Lady was simply a reckless lunatic. Her killing intent was so pure and dense that it was aimed squarely at taking its life.

Such a cold and direct killing aura was a rare sight in its long life. It couldn’t even be called hatred; it was more of an obsession.

Scorching Wings didn’t understand why Reiya was so fixated on its life, but its thousand-year lifespan had taught it that such killing intent was never a good thing. It would only cloud one’s judgment and blind them to any true opportunity for victory.

Even though Dragon Thunder undoubtedly suppressed it, in terms of combat experience, it far surpassed its opponent.

’This will be a victory of martial skill!’

"BOOM—"

"BOOM—"

"BOOM—"

The dull thuds, accompanied by the sounds of their clash, kicked up shockwaves that sundered the earth and split the clouds. Waves of pressure swept over the land again and again.

The battle in the sky moved from the high clouds to the low altitudes. This Domain, ravaged by heavenly fire and Dragon Break, was the perfect battlefield for Dragons to gallop across.

Westheid’s injuries had healed somewhat, and he was able to pull his upper body out of the trench.

Watching the trails left by the speeding Scorching Wings and Reiya, Westheid couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration:

"Reiya? Amazing... I didn’t think she’d actually pull it off."

The plan was to have Reiya devour a Giant Dragon, push her Withered Glory Sun to its absolute limit of absorption and digestion, and then unleash it all at once. By leveraging the type advantage, she might just be able to attain stats that could temporarily overwhelm a Legendary True Dragon.

And in these few brief moments, Reiya did indeed possess the potential to create a miracle.

But...

"No, this isn’t the right way to fight."

Westheid sighed. Reiya was recklessly throwing everything she had into an all-out assault on Scorching Wings. But the dragon didn’t need to clash head-on with the Silver-haired Dragon Lady while she was at her peak; it only had to use its tough, thick hide to its advantage and stall for time.

It might look like Scorching Wings was on the back foot, but in reality, everything was under the Legendary True Dragon’s control.

Simply put, Reiya was being kited to death.

Westheid wished he could rush up there and take the Silver-haired Dragon Lady’s place. If he could take control of Reiya right now, his performance would be god-tier!

But at the moment, he hadn’t even recovered his ability to move. He couldn’t even get close to the battlefield to tell Reiya the correct strategy.

"BANG—"

All Westheid could do was rage impotently, slamming his fist on the ground with a sigh.

’I’m out of options!’

Just as Westheid was stewing in his frustration, he heard soft footsteps, followed by a soft, elegant voice from beside him:

"Mr. Westheid? What... happened here?"

He looked up to see a wolf-eared maiden in a solemn black-and-white knight’s shirt standing next to him.

Mivana’s violet-black hair cascaded down like a waterfall, carrying a refreshing, faint fragrance. One of her eyes, like molten Gold, was fixed on Westheid, hoping to get an answer from the man.

"Mivana? I thought you weren’t coming."

Westheid hadn’t expected to see the future Heaven-Devouring Wave. During his few days with the Resistance Army, he hadn’t seen her. Coupled with the information he’d gotten from Rafati, he’d naturally assumed that Mivana wouldn’t be meeting with the Yonglan Knights.

"I was just delayed on my way here. Because of the sudden explosion, many masterless Dragon Beasts were attacking the villages in the outskirts."

Mivana said calmly, "I spent some time dealing with those Dragon Beasts that were plaguing the countryside, so I was slow to arrive. I heard from others... that this was supposed to be the Resistance Army’s base?"

The Wolf-eared Maiden looked ahead at the giant crater caused by the Dragon Break, the ground vitrified by heavenly fire and scorching flames, and the battle between Scorching Wings and Reiya.

Anyone seeing this scene without knowing the context would definitely wonder if they’d missed the last three seasons.

"It was the base a moment ago... But that’s not what’s important! You’re just in time. This is the final, critical moment. My teammate is fighting Scorching Wings, and she needs help!"

Westheid pleaded with Mivana, as if grasping at his last straw.

No matter how unhinged she might become in the future, at least the Wolf-eared Knight Maiden of today was someone he could reason with. She seemed to be a person who possessed the chivalrous spirit of the Knightly Path.

Although her Tier was likely also Exemplar, considering she had a Tier T0 Talent specialized purely for combat and slaughter, it wasn’t impossible for her to intervene in a battle between Legends.

However, just as Westheid’s voice fell, he noticed a hint of apprehension on the Wolf-eared Maiden’s beautiful, cold face. Her gaze began to shift away.

’Wait, are you just going to stand there and watch?!’
