Chapter 178: 178

Lambert and Eskel had their jaws on the floor when they witnessed the new fortifications. They had heard a lot about them but seeing their equipment and armor, now had become incredibly jealous. They wanted to visit their world too. frёewebnoѵēl.com

But thankfully, Tony hadn’t forgotten about them and brought proper enhancements for them too. By the time night fell, Kaer Morhen had changed. The ancient fortress stood strong, reinforced with subtle technological upgrades.

Defensive lights flickered atop the towers, and energy nodes pulsed quietly behind stone walls. In the forge, the Witchers inspected their new gear. Liam and Ciri got together to cook for the whole group and they had also brought their own food too which Lambert and Eskel were dying to try.

The night passed away in silent jubilation and cheers.

The sun crested over the jagged peaks of the Blue Mountains, casting a soft golden light across Kaer Morhen’s snow-covered courtyard. Steam rose gently from the stone as the warmth of day began melting the frost. The day began like many others since their return

Triss and Keira were in the library, sorting through ancient manuscripts and newly delivered Stark tablets. Yes, they were using technology to copy the books to the tablets. Tablets that was hackproof and make sure that it would never be accessed through the Internet. They had already decided to move to Marvel World after finishing with the Wild Hunt and the Frost so they had started their work too.

Geralt and Vesemir examined the newly forged weapons Tony had brought, testing the balance and grip. Steve and Natasha helped Yinsen calibrate the surveillance network, occasionally tossing amused glances at Avallac’h, who grumbled as he readjusted his robe in the unfamiliar cold.

In the courtyard, were the perched old training pillars, and on top of them was Ciri. She moved like a flash of silver, leaping from one narrow stone column to the next, her blade singing through the air. She was using her ability to phase in and out. She hadn’t learnt the magic of Marvel World as of yet but she did have some progress on her ability to phase.

She flipped backward onto one of the higher columns and landed in a crouch, grinning to herself. "Still got it," she muttered, brushing a strand of white hair behind her ear.

"You sure?" came a voice from below. Ciri looked down.

Liam was standing at the edge of the courtyard, looking up at her with an exaggerated smirk.

"Oh great," she called down. "Come to lecture me about discipline, Master Liam?"

She had already known that Liam was a great swordsman and even with her ability she wasn’t able to best him in the Marvel world, and she had a feeling that even in this world, without the ability of Liam, it would still be tough.

"Not quite," he replied, bending his knees and launching into the air. His leap was enhanced with subtle magic on the boots. He balanced casually, one foot resting on the rim of the narrow pillar, the other dangling over the edge.

"I figured if you’re going to get reckless, you should at least have someone up here to keep you on your toes."

"You sure about that? Last time we sparred, I knocked you on your ass." Ciri smirked.

"Last time, I let you," Liam said, eyes twinkling.

"Liar."

"Try me."

And just like that, they were off.

Ciri lunged first, launching herself from her pillar. Their swords clashed midair—steel against enchanted alloy, the staff—before she landed and spun low, aiming a sweeping strike for his legs. Liam jumped over it with ease, flipped backward to the next pillar, and laughed.

"Little slow, aren’t we?"

"Oh, you’re dead."

She chased him, dancing from one pillar to the next, their blades ringing like wind chimes in the mountain air. It wasn’t a real fight—not with intent to harm—but it was fierce, and neither held back.

Liam ducked under a thrust and countered with a flick of his wrist that disarmed her momentarily, but Ciri rolled forward, retrieved her blade mid-flip, and swung back at him.

"You’ve gotten better," he admitted, panting slightly.

"I’ve had some good motivation," she said.

"Wanna make it interesting?" Liam asked.

"Go on." Ciri raised an eyebrow.

"If I win, you owe me dinner."

"That’s bold of you." Ciri blushed a bit.

"I like my odds."

"Oh really?" She lunged again, faster now, her movements sharper—less playful. This time, Liam had to draw more magic into his muscles to keep up. The air shimmered faintly around him as he dodged a feint and countered with a downward strike. Ciri blocked just in time, the force of it pushing her back on the narrow pillar.

"You’re not the only one with new tricks." Ciri grinned.

She teleported—just a blink—and reappeared behind him mid-strike. He barely had time to parry, and their swords locked once more. For a few moments, they stood frozen in a clash.

"You’re beautiful when you’re not trying to kill me," Liam muttered under his breath. Ciri’s eyes softened for the briefest moment. Then she shoved him off balance.

"Cheap shot. Romantic distractions don’t work on me," she teased. "At least not during a duel."

"Noted," Liam said, grinning.

"You really want that dinner?" Ciri asked.

"Only if you join me."

"After this is over... when the Wild Hunt is gone, when your friend is safe..." Ciri drifted off.

"Then we’ll find the time." Liam replied. Liam could see that the shadow of the Wild Hunt was too large and it would be almost impossible to wipe it away, until they were able to get rid of it.

Ciri nodded, and this time, when the wind caught her hair, she let it fall across her face. Liam reached out and gently tucked it behind her ear. She didn’t stop him. While this was going one Geralt and Yennefer were witnessing both of them from the high tower.

"Liam has been able to use magic on his body just like Vilgefortz. He is following the same path." Yennefer said.

"He is still far off from him. He was able to throw me away with one strike." Geralt said.
