Chapter 169: Ambush!

[Back At the Anaconda Path.]

The group started their journey, entering the claustrophobic confines of the path, while on full alert, all ready for an ambush. The heavy silence of the gorge was deafening, the sheer 200-meter cliffs on either side amplifying the sound of their mounts’ hooves. In the meanwhile, Mirabella sat cross-legged on the reinforced roof of the Carriage, her eyes closed in deep concentration.

’These guys are good... Five hundred Lv100. Two hundred Lv200 to Lv300. One Hundred Lv300. Fifty Lv350 to Lv400, and One Lv500... This is crazy, even the academy don’t have so many powerful fighters. Not to say 80% of these forces are mutated humans.’ She thought. Her sensory range was monstrous; even with her eyes closed, she easily pinpointed all the hostile energy signatures and life forces five hundred meters away, mapping them out in her mind like a high-tier tactical radar.

’850 fighters, and this isn’t even their full army. Are they here for the princess?’ She clenched her fist, calculating the raw stat difference between the two factions.

"16 Vs 850... This is so ironic, there is no way 16 people who some aren’t even Lv200 can win this battle." She muttered, a small, chilling smile forming on her face. The sheer absurdity of the scaling amused her. Mirabella slowly opened her eyes, their ocean-blue depths entirely devoid of fear, and looked ahead into the winding gorge.

"They waited still we reached the center of the path before making their move, very smart." It was the perfect kill zone—no retreat, no flanking routes.

WHOOSH!!

A black, armor-piercing arrow shot towards her from the high ridges with terrifying velocity, but the moment it got a hundred meters from her position, it shattered instantly into black dust.

"Everyone!! Pay attention to your surroundings!!" Yakima yelled, instantly dropping into a combat stance, holding her heavily enchanted sword in her right hand, and her horse rein tightly in her left.

’That arrow? Did Mirabella stop it? But she didn’t move a single finger, not even a trace of Spirit energy.’ Yakima thought in genuine surprise, her veteran eyes failing to comprehend the absolute defense Mirabella possessed.

"Fog Lord!!!"

Multiple raspy, synchronized voices sounded all over the place from the hidden ridges, echoing off the stone walls. The next moment, dense, unnatural grey fogs slowly filled the whole space, heavily saturated with dark energy, completely enclosing them and plunging the Anaconda Path into absolute zero-visibility.

"What is this?!" Austin yelled in shock, turning his head frantically to the side, not even seeing his sister, who was just inches away. The fog swallowed all light and sound.

"The hell?! I can’t even see two feet from me?!!!" He yelled in disbelief, his low-level sensory stats completely jammed.

"Stay alert!!! This is Devil Cult’s signature skill!! It’s only passed down to the best of the best!" Yakima’s commanding voice sounded from the suffocating fog, trying to anchor her panicking squad.

"You all already know the position of your teammates!! Your task is to stay on your position, and defend yourself!!" She yelled, relying on standard Guild defensive formations.

Everyone looked around the impenetrable fog, swallowing their fear, and nodded their heads, jumping off their horses to hold the line as practiced:

"Yes, Leader!!" They yelled in unison.

Mirabella remained seated on the carriage roof, untouched by the panic. ’That is a stupid plan, the fog Lord is a Legendary class skill, a skill that can completely bypass all eyes skills, even the celestial, Soul and mythical eyes can’t see through it.’ She moved her gaze to the darkened sky, analyzing the fog.

’But, if you are stronger than the caster, and have one of these three eyes, or a very powerful visual skill, you can escape. All in one, we are in a very bad situation here, all these fifteen can’t see anything through this fog, they are just sheep waiting to be slaughtered.’

The cold logic of the World dictated that without a counter-skill, a status-effect like this was a guaranteed wipe for the lower-leveled members.

WHOOSH!!!

BAM!!

SILENCE...

Mirabella calmly turned her gaze to the man directly below her, a black arrow sticking out from his throat, completely severing his vocal cords and instantly draining his HP to zero.

’Impressive, they aimed for the weakest point of his armor, are they also Archers in here?’ She noted, her mind analyzing the enemy’s class composition rather than mourning the dead guard.

WHOOSH!!

WHOOSH!!

BAM!!

BAM!!

Mirabella stood up calmly, balancing perfectly on the carriage as two more Dragon Tooth guild members collapsed onto the dusty ground, dead before they even registered the attack. Of course, with her speed and stats, she could easily save them, but why should she? They were weak, and in Galaxy Fall, the weak perished.

"This is annoying."

She stretched forth her delicate hand forward, tapping into the vast, anomalous reservoir of her soul sea. "If it’s the past, I won’t be able to achieve this, but after copying their skill, I can undo this."

"Scatter!!"

With that single, authoritative command laced with overwhelming spirit energy, the legendary fog shattered like fragile glass. It violently dispersed all over the place, pushed back by an invisible pressure, instantly clearing the path before them.

"...?!!!" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

The remaining standing members stood frozen, their weapons raised. Their eyes widened in absolute terror, staring at the hundreds of grotesque, heavily mutated creatures standing in front of them blocking the path, and swarming on both sides of the sheer 200-meter hills. Their feral, glowing red eyes were fixed entirely on the small group.

"What the?!!" Yakima was shocked to her core. Even her war-trained, armored horse took a step back in primal fear at the sheer density of the bloodlust radiating from the horde.

"Leader!!"

She looked over her shoulder at the desperate cry, her eyes widening in sheer disbelief, staring at her two Lv250 members, and one Lv289 member lying on the ground, all dead in pools of their own blood.

’...This?!! They attacked the strongest in our group! Killing them in an instant!’ Yakima’s tactical mind reeled at the surgical precision of the strike. They had used the fog specifically to assassinate her heavy hitters. She turned her gaze back to the sea of mutated creatures, a terrifying, suffocating aura of golden spirit energy erupting from her core.

"I will kill all of you!!" She yelled, a roar of pure, unadulterated fury. She leaped off her horse, crashing down like a meteor, and landed aggressively in front of the mutated humans, the ground cracking beneath her boots.

"I swear on my name, none of you will survive today!!"

Everyone blinked in surprise, disbelief, and awe, staring at the raging, dense golden spirit energy swirling violently around Yakima as she started walking slowly towards the massive enemy frontline.

"Today, I will kill every one of you." Her eyes underwent a terrifying transformation. They turned pure white, then abruptly shifted, splitting into the legendary double pupils—the very same high-tier bloodline eyes she had desperately used against Mirabella during their duel.

"Seems we are fighting."

Hitachi jumped down from his horse with elegant grace, his celestial eyes glowing as he drew his black, Legendary-grade sword, the blade humming with lethal intent.

’This will be interesting.’

While everyone was getting ready to fight to the very bitter end, burning their energy and preparing their ultimate skills, Mirabella casually sat back down on the carriage roof, crossing her legs and closing her eyes again, letting the mortals handle the vanguard.
