Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 78 - 45: Labor
In the days leading up to her labor, Sang Luo had lost her appetite. Her stomach felt incredibly bloated, and she spent all day sleeping—the kind of deep sleep from which she could never seem to wake.
Caesar stayed by her side the entire time. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
One night, Sang Luo startled awake, gripping Caesar’s arm with all her might. Waves of pain radiated from her abdomen, drenching her in a cold sweat. The agony was so intense she couldn’t stop a cry from escaping, her face crumpling. "AH—"
’I’m going into labor!’
Caesar immediately scooped her up, threw on an outer robe, and rushed to the hospital.
When the Guard Army stationed outside saw him emerge, they moved to apprehend him. But in an instant, the bodies of several hundred Beastmen exploded into a gory mess of flesh and blood.
The remaining Beastmen were filled with terror.
The troops parted like the Red Sea, clearing a long path. No one dared to take another step forward.
With his mate and cub’s lives on the line, even the Beast King, who had hurried to the scene, had to keep his distance for the time being.
「The hospital.」
Sang Luo lay on the large bed in the delivery room, now dressed in a loose, dark blue gown. The color made her face look even paler, and she had bitten her lip so hard that it had started to bleed.
It was the first time she had ever endured the agony of childbirth. She felt as if she were floating in a dissociated state, her very soul seeming to drift from her body... until a sharp, searing pain instantly yanked her back to reality.
"Sir," a doctor approached, "the delivery room is an unclean place. Please, wait outside."
Caesar didn’t look up. "There is precedent for a Male Beast to be present in the delivery room," he said, his voice hoarse. "I’m staying with her."
Sang Luo looked at his worried, grief-stricken face. A swelling sense of contentment filled her heart, and even the pain seemed to lessen. She tugged at the corners of her lips, managing a faint smile. "The doctor’s right. You should go outside. It... probably won’t be a pretty sight in a little while..."
Caesar’s grip on her hand tightened, his own hand trembling slightly. He couldn’t utter a single word.
"Sigh... never mind. Stay and watch, then. So you don’t worry too much." Seeing him like this, Sang Luo couldn’t bring herself to say anything else.
’In truth, a part of her hoped Caesar would stay by her side at every moment of this critical juncture.’
’Having him here was reassuring.’
’She didn’t have to worry about anyone trying to pull something behind her back.’
Sang Luo spoke again, her voice weak. "If I... make a fool of myself in a bit, you better not laugh at me..."
Caesar’s eyes suddenly reddened. He pressed her hand to his cheek. "How could I...?"
A few more attending physicians arrived, all of whom had been summoned in the middle of the night.
One of the doctors was holding a few pills and a bowl of Water. "We need the pregnant female to take this labor-inducing medication and a painkiller. We will then do everything in our power to assist her during delivery and lower the risk of complications."
Caesar looked at the medicine and the bowl of Water, but he didn’t take them. Instead, his gaze fell upon the physicians.
Their backs were immediately drenched in cold sweat.
The sheer presence and killing intent of an Admiral who had spent years on the battlefield was more than any ordinary Beastman could withstand. They were certain that if anything happened to this pregnant female in the hospital today, none of them would leave alive.
"Relax. They wouldn’t dare try anything. I had the medicine checked beforehand. It’s fine."
Duotu had appeared at the door of the delivery room at some point. His gaze fell upon Sang Luo, her face pale as she lay on the bed. He was extremely tense himself, but he didn’t take a single step further inside.
The Beast King had promised him that Sang Luo would be left alone.
Giving birth was the top priority.
"If... if there’s an accident..." one of the physicians began, his voice trembling.
The Empire’s medical care for expectant mothers was now at a very high level, but accidents could still happen. The most infamous incidents in history, in particular, had all occurred when a mother was giving birth to the offspring of a highly gifted Beastman.
This was also their first time delivering the child of an Innate King Beast. They had absolutely no experience and were terrified.
Caesar answered without a moment’s hesitation. "Save the mother."
Sang Luo could no longer make out what they were saying. Her hands twisted the bedding, her forehead covered in sweat.
Caesar continually wiped the sweat from her brow.
In all his years on the battlefield, he had never felt a moment of tension like this. He wished he could bear all of this pain for her.
He reached out a hand to soothe her.
Sang Luo grabbed his fair, elegant wrist. She opened her eyes, panting heavily, and tilted her head slightly. "Guess... is it a girl or a boy?"
"One who looks like you, and one who looks like me."
"Twins?" Sang Luo chuckled.
"...Yes. I can sense it. Talk less. Save your strength." His voice was full of heartache.
Sang Luo closed her eyes again, taking slow, deep breaths. She tried to imagine herself floating on a cloud when, suddenly, she felt a violent, dropping sensation in her abdomen.
"AHH!"
Sang Luo bit down on his hand as a contraction hit, and her vision went black.
...
Outside the hospital, among the stationed troops, the Beastmen suddenly lost control and shifted into their beast forms, letting out howls that pierced the sky.
