Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 462 - 401: A Little Wild Beast
A pungent, rotten, fishy stench. A sticky, clammy feeling. Flies, maggots...
"BLEGH!"
The young woman crawled out of the Chaotic Burial Mound, only to be assaulted by a scene that overwhelmed both her sight and smell. A wave of nausea churned in her stomach, and she doubled over, dry-heaving so hard she nearly coughed up bile.
’Where... is this?!’
’Who am I?!’
For a moment, her thoughts were a chaotic mess. She slapped the sides of her head, trying to remember how she’d gotten here.
She had been swallowed by some nameless, swirling black hole, and then she’d ended up in this hellhole.
Sang Luo quickly looked down at her arms and legs. Thankfully, they were all still there. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
The thick, bloody stench in the air was sickening. Sang Luo wanted to flee this place immediately. As she scrambled to her feet, she noticed something strange about her line of sight. It was much lower, like she was seeing things from a child’s perspective.
She glanced down at her arms and legs again. She hadn’t noticed before, but they were definitely shorter.
Sang Luo wiped her face. It felt just as sticky, and a sharp, stinging pain suggested her face was probably scraped up.
There was no telling how many corpses were buried in this nameless Chaotic Burial Mound. They were strewn about in heaps, mostly dismembered limbs and torsos. They couldn’t have been dead for long; their blood had pooled into little gullies.
Sang Luo glanced at her reflection in one of the stinking puddles.
Who was this blood-soaked "Fierce Ghost" staring back at her?!
Still shaken, she clambered over the bodies and rocks underfoot, escaping the mountain of corpses.
The stench clung to her, refusing to fade. Sang Luo tried to cast a Water Purification Technique, but nothing happened.
The nearby streams were all contaminated with blood from the corpses. Sang Luo had no choice but to run barefoot for miles until she finally found a clean river and dove in without a second thought.
After scrubbing herself vigorously, she heard a faint, pained whimper.
’Was that some kind of small animal?’
She swam to the opposite bank and saw a small, dark shape lying in the grass not far away.
Her curiosity piqued, Sang Luo climbed onto the bank and walked toward it.
Hearing the unfamiliar footsteps, the little black beast, curled into a ball, began to tremble. It opened its mouth and let out a warning cry.
...It wasn’t very intimidating.
As Sang Luo drew closer, she saw it was a black, dog-like beast. Its entire body was filthy, and its fur was a tangled, unkempt mess.
It lay slumped on the ground, licking a wound on its hind leg. Blood matted its fur, and a distinct patch of it stained the earth nearby.
’It’s injured.’
’A Beastman? Or just a wild animal?’
Outside of their cub years, Sang Luo had rarely seen a Beastman take on their full beast form. Besides, this one was so small and weak; it didn’t resemble the majestic forms Beastmen usually possessed.
Sang Luo greeted it and tried to communicate, but the little beast only grew more wary. Its snarls grew louder, and all its fur stood on end.
’Fine.’
’Looks like it’s just a regular animal, not a sentient one.’
Found out here in the wilderness, it didn’t seem to be a pet with an owner. It was probably just a wild dog that had been unfortunately injured by a hunter or a predator.
During her time in Qingqiu, Sang Luo had learned a few practical skills. She recognized several herbs that could stop bleeding and treat wounds. She found some nearby and applied them to her own injuries.
It was strange, though. Ever since arriving in this godforsaken place, she hadn’t been able to use even a simple Cleaning Technique, let alone her healing abilities.
’Don’t tell me that black hole stripped away my powers, too!?’
’Right back to square one.’
Her wounds scabbed over quickly. Sang Luo got up, deciding to find a safe place to spend the night. She could figure out her current situation later, when she had the time.
She was just about to leave when a faint whimper sounded from behind her.
Sang Luo turned around. It was the little wild dog again.
It was looking at her with pleading eyes.
Sang Luo paused, then a smile touched her lips.
"You want me to treat your wound?"
The little wild dog couldn’t speak, but it kept staring at her with those pitiful eyes. Sang Luo finally caved. She still had some herbs left. She walked over to it. "Okay, but let’s get one thing straight," she said. "I’ll treat your wound, but you have to behave. No biting."
She couldn’t even heal herself now, and for all she knew, wild animals could carry all sorts of diseases, like rabies. She didn’t want any more trouble, but she just couldn’t resist the little wild beast’s miserable stare.
The little wild beast was still wary, but it no longer resisted, lying quietly on the ground.
Sang Luo rubbed her hands together. Not daring to pick it up, she found a large banana leaf nearby, ran to the river to scoop up some fresh water, and used it to clean the wound on its hind leg.
The wound was worse than she’d thought. It was bleeding and festering. The leg was bent at an unnatural angle; it was most likely broken.
She didn’t have any other options, so she resorted to the most basic method. She ground the herbs in her hand into a pulp and applied the paste, dregs and all, to its hind leg.
Small wild animals are resilient. If the fracture wasn’t too severe, it should be able to heal on its own. This was all she could do.
The little beast let out a low, pained whimper. Its pointed ears flattened back, and its body trembled even more violently.
Sang Luo tentatively reached out and stroked its head. The trembling stopped. It even nudged her hand with its pointed snout.
Sang Luo’s eyes curved into a smile, and her comforting strokes grew gentler. "There, don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you. It’ll be all better soon."
The little beast seemed to give a slight nod. It relaxed its tense body, rested its head on the ground, and fell silent.
After treating the little beast’s leg, Sang Luo got up to leave. She had only taken a few steps when she saw the little wild beast shakily following her.
She stopped, and it stopped too, tilting its head to look at her.
Its clear, dark eyes held a hint of uncertainty.
The roars of other beasts echoed from the nearby woods.
Sang Luo thought of the Chaotic Burial Mound. Many wild animals would surely be out hunting tonight.
If this poor little beast was left unprotected, it would probably end up as another creature’s dinner.
"If you want to follow me, you can," she said. "But I can’t promise I’ll be here for long."
She had to get back.
She just didn’t know how.
Sang Luo looked up at the dark night sky, sighed, and started walking with no destination in mind.
The little beast trotted along, keeping close behind her.
After some time, the roars of the wild beasts faded, replaced by the sound of disorganized footsteps in the distance.
In the dim moonlight, clusters of torches appeared. There had to be at least a few hundred people, and they were heading in her direction.
’Finally, other people!’
A mix of surprise and relief filled Sang Luo’s heart. She decided to approach the group for help, bringing the little wild beast she had picked up along with her.
But when she turned around, she saw the little beast running away.
"Hey, where are you going?"
Sang Luo cried out anxiously.
The little beast paused, glanced back at her one last time, then staggered off again, vanishing into the darkness.
Sang Luo noticed its big, fluffy tail and paused. ’That doesn’t look like a wild dog’s tail... A wolf? Or a fox?’
She didn’t dwell on the brief encounter and trotted toward the group of people.
Suddenly, her vision went black, and she collapsed.
Before she passed out, she saw a male Beastman with a torch running toward her, shouting anxiously, "Over here! We’ve found His Highness..."
