Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 398 - 337: Abandoned Love
Sang Luo was unable to move. The Qiankun Bag at her waist was gone, and she had been stripped clean of all her possessions.
A wave of immense humiliation and the rage of betrayal washed over her.
’Was everything he did before just to trick me? Was he just boiling a frog in warm water, waiting to strike when my guard was completely down?’
’But there was absolutely no reason for it...’
Sang Luo frowned. "What are you trying to do?"
"A little Beast Clan female who snuck in here... did you really think I’d obediently do your bidding?"
Anubia’s malicious, taunting gaze fell upon her, as if he were contemplating whether to disembowel her or chop off her limbs first.
Sang Luo’s expression slowly turned cold, but a flicker of doubt remained in her eyes.
"Guards, take this Beast Clan female away. Torture her. Show no mercy."
Anubia’s tone was lazy and bored, as if he were dealing with any common spy.
He rose to leave, but with a sudden rush of air, the gun was snatched from his hand. Its dark, gaping muzzle was now pressed against his chest.
The guards in the hall instantly rushed forward, surrounding Sang Luo completely. If she dared to make a move, she would be cut down in a spray of blood.
The man looked down, raising an eyebrow at Sang Luo. A flicker of amusement crossed his desolate gray eyes.
His long, slender hand slowly moved to cover hers, as if joining her in gripping the gun.
He pressed his palm against the muzzle.
"Luoluo, are you going to attack me?"
Sang Luo’s resolve wavered for an instant. She looked up into his narrowed eyes. "Is this real or an act? I’ll give you one chance to explain."
He said slowly, "Go on, try it. The moment you pull that trigger, we’ll see who dies—you or me."
"BANG!" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
The gun fired.
His palm was reduced to a bloody pulp, but the bullet hadn’t pierced the bone.
Sang Luo tried to fire again, but the man violently seized her hand and threw her down onto the bed.
He pressed one knee into the mattress, his tall frame casting a shadow over her. He loomed above, looking down at Sang Luo’s panicked, furious face. His broad, blood-soaked hand slowly traced her trembling eyelashes, the corner of her eye, her cheek. His smile never reached his eyes. "You talk and talk about how much you love me, but when it comes to it, you don’t show a shred of mercy, do you?"
"You moved first!" Sang Luo glared at him furiously. Half her face was smeared with his blood, and with her hair in disarray, she looked like a Fierce Ghost.
She tried to shoot him again, but the man grabbed the gun by the muzzle. With a squeeze of his hand, he crushed the firearm into a useless wreck.
His voice grew deep, devoid of all emotion.
"Behave. Don’t think that I won’t dare to kill you just because *that guy* wants you."
He got off the bed, took a pair of handcuffs from an attendant, and locked them back onto her wrists.
Wiping the blood from his hand with a handkerchief, he turned his head and ordered his subordinate, "Throw her in the dungeon."
"My King, didn’t you say this female was our honored guest and that we were to treat her well?"
Anubia’s expression turned frigid and harsh. "When did I ever say that!"
"It was... last night. Before you left, you gave us specific instructions."
The man’s lips tightened into a thin line. He said nothing, his expression growing more twisted and icy. The Insect Clan guard lowered his head, not daring to meet his gaze.
Suddenly, he laughed. "Then leave her in this room. No one is to bring her food. Let her starve for three days and nights."
"I’d like to see what’s tougher—her defiance or her life."
After saying this, Anubia left with his retinue.
BAM!
The heavy doors slammed shut.
Outside, dark clouds shrouded the moon, plunging the room into darkness.
Sang Luo tried to get the handcuffs off, only to discover Anubia had programmed them with a command: they would immediately detonate if anyone other than him removed them, or if she ever left his territory.
’Anu has had a change of heart?’
’After his resurrection... he really isn’t the same as before.’
A chill settled over Sang Luo’s heart, little by little.
Her body was now in a state of near-sustenance, so going without food for three days should have had little effect on her.
Yet, as time passed, an inexpressible feeling of emptiness and hunger welled up in her stomach, overwhelming her like a tidal wave.
...
「One day passed, then two.」
Anubia waited for the little Beast Clan female to come begging for mercy.
But there wasn’t a single peep.
He grew agitated. He lit a cigarette, but the swirling smoke couldn’t quell the inexplicable emotion stirring in his heart. "Turn on the monitor."
’I’d like to see just how long she can hold out.’
’I was on the verge of taking full control of this body, of severing all ties to the past. Then this little female showed up and ruined my plans.’
’That lingering wisp of consciousness from the original host is faintly resurfacing, affecting this body’s judgment and emotions.’
’I should have killed her on the spot. That would have been the simplest, most direct solution.’
The shackled female was curled up on the bed, perfectly centered on the monitor screen. He could see her clearly—her face was pale, and she looked to be in a very bad state.
Anubia shot to his feet. He had only taken two steps when a dull ache throbbed in his chest.
The latent injury from before was flaring up again.
A nearby Servant quickly brought him his medicine.
He shoved the Servant aside and stormed out the door alone.
The Servant stood there, stunned. ’That’s strange... Did I see that wrong?’
’The King was radiating a murderous aura...’
Anubia arrived at the side hall.
The guards outside the door bowed respectfully.
"From now on, you don’t need to stand guard here. She is a free woman."
The guards were bewildered, thinking they must have misheard. ’Didn’t he just lock this female up the day before yesterday and order us to torture her? Why is he releasing her now?’
’But then they remembered their new king’s volatile nature. Perhaps this was just another form of torture.’
"Yes."
The Servant withdrew.
Anubia had just stepped into the hall when a cold dagger was pressed to his neck.
This dagger had been personally forged by Lou Xianyue. Unlike conventional firearms, it could cause him direct harm.
He spoke. "Luoluo."
Standing behind him, Sang Luo tightened her grip on the dagger. "Anu?"
’Tonight, he was different from the man from two days ago. It was as if she was back on the night they were reunited.’
She didn’t understand what was happening, but she instinctively let out a relieved breath. "The Qiankun Bag. Hand it over."
Anu produced the Qiankun Bag.
Sang Luo snatched back the Qiankun Bag and opened it for a quick look. Nothing was missing.
He smiled sadly. "Am I still worthy of kissing you?"
Sang Luo let the dagger fall from her hand, grabbed him by the collar, and pressed her lips to his.
No matter how slow on the uptake she might be, she realized something was deeply wrong.
"What is going on?"
Anu pulled Sang Luo into a crushing embrace, as if trying to merge his very bones and blood with hers. "I’m not who I used to be. My soul was affected by the Insect Emperor’s Crystal Core. A new personality formed after I was resurrected."
"*He* is a completely new self, unwilling to be merely Anubia."
Sang Luo struggled to process this. She cupped the man’s handsome face in her hands, her eyes stinging with unshed tears.
"Then what about you?"
"I am the memories and love that *he* cast aside. *He* doesn’t want me to exist; *he*’s always been trying to erase me completely." Anu lowered his head, pressing his forehead gently against hers. Their breaths mingled as he savored the fleeting tenderness between them. "I was on the verge of disappearing. But a while ago, *he* killed the Insect King of the Third District and was gravely injured. When his consciousness fell into a deep sleep, I had a chance to resurface."
His hand caressed her cheek, a blissful smile gracing his lips. "I got to see you one more time."
"...How... how much longer can you exist?"
"Perhaps, once *his* injuries are fully healed, I will disappear for good."
