Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 364 - 303: Rejuvenation Pearl
"Just in time?"
"Perfect timing! My child’s father is just the handsomest!"
"Heh, you’re always so sweet when you need me. What kind of trouble have you gotten into this time?" Fei Yuan’s gaze darkened as he surveyed the pitch-black cave before them. ’What the hell is this place?’ He shifted his eyes to the Nine Infant, which was retreating in fear nearby. "Go do what you need to do. Leave this Nine Infant to me."
Lou Xianyue and Si Ye intercepted the remaining pursuers.
Sang Luo didn’t waste the opportunity and headed straight for the forbidden land.
The clamor of fierce battle fell away behind her, gradually fading into the distance.
The deeper she went, the more skeletons she found. Rivulets of blood snaked through the sticky, black earth. These were the Beastmen who had died or gone missing in the disaster, captured and brought to this forbidden land as sacrifices.
In the deepest part of the forbidden land was an altar suspended in mid-air. The surface was covered in strange, esoteric runes. Nine thick, heavy chains were anchored firmly into the stone walls, their other ends connected to the altar to hold it aloft. Below was a massive pool filled with blood.
Sang Luo leapt onto the altar and nearly gagged. A desiccated corpse lay upon it, slowly swelling as it siphoned the blood from the pool below...
With a burst of flame, she incinerated the corpse.
A black shadow shot straight for her forehead, but Sang Luo was prepared. The Longsword in her hand instantly transformed into a trick umbrella, blocking the remnant soul that was trying to invade her body.
The remnant soul coalesced into the form of an old man with upturned eyes and a sharp, hooked nose. His face alone revealed a cunning and unsettling nature.
"So you’re Wanqi You."
"What little rat dares trespass in this forbidden land and speak this venerable one’s name!"
"Then I’m in the right place. I was asked to come and take your life."
RUMBLE—
The nine chains jerked taut, and the altar descended, forming a cage. The enraged remnant soul condensed hundreds of blades, sending them hurtling toward Sang Luo.
"I don’t care how badass you were when you were alive. Now you’re just a pathetic remnant soul, not even qualified to be a wandering ghost. This lady might not be able to beat the living nine-headed monster outside, but dealing with you will be a piece of cake!"
A cold sneer touched Sang Luo’s enchanting face. She didn’t even bother to dodge, simply spinning the Red Umbrella in her hand to block the attack. At the same time, the umbrella’s canopy flared with brilliant light as several Fire Phoenix phantoms flew from its runes, scorching the remnant soul and eliciting a piercing, agonized scream.
Wanqi You’s remnant soul cursed with all its might, but as it was on the verge of being burned to nothing, it began to beg desperately for mercy.
"Just spare me this once, and I’ll give you any treasure you desire! I’ll pass my entire legacy on to you!"
"I’ll admit, that’s a little tempting."
A glint of greed flashed in the remnant soul’s eyes.
"Too bad I’d rather see you dead!"
The umbrella in Sang Luo’s hand collapsed back into a blade. She thrust it through the remnant soul, which disintegrated into ash.
The worldly constraint did not vanish.
Sang Luo frowned, surveying the wreckage on and around the altar.
Little Zhi Xin emerged from the dimensional space. It took on its beast form and began sniffing all over, pawing through the rubble. After a moment, it dug something out and trotted over excitedly, carrying the object in its mouth.
"Mommy, look at this! The smell I picked up was coming from this!"
Sang Luo took the gray bead from Little Zhi Xin’s mouth and examined it, but it seemed completely unremarkable. "I’m not sure what this is, either."
Having killed the Nine Infant, Fei Yuan teleported to her side.
"What are you doing in a place like this? The malevolent aura is far too strong."
Sang Luo explained the situation to him.
"Even if you stumbled into it by accident, the adventure was worth it." Fei Yuan pinched her cheek, a smile gracing his handsome face. "Little Luo’er did very well this time. You remembered me. You should think of me more often in the future, you hear?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Having plundered the Wanqi Clan Land and seized many valuable treasures, Si Ye and Lou Xianyue returned to the city to meet Little Zhenzhen.
Little Zhenzhen also returned with a great haul, all of it gifts from Cen Rong. "Auntie Cen Rong told me I should come play at the City Lord Mansion more often."
"You’re quite the popular one, aren’t you?"
"Of course! Everybody loves me!" Little Zhenzhen leaped into Sang Luo’s arms, stuffed all her new gifts into her mother’s dimensional space, and then noticed the little, dusty gray bead.
"Oh! Mommy, you got a Rejuvenation Pearl!"
"You recognize this bead?"
"Long ago, in ancient times, there was a Divine Monarch who was a master of the art of creation. The treacherous and greedy Wanqi You schemed to get close to him, and the two became sworn brothers. But after that villain gained the Divine Monarch’s trust, he secretly conspired with an Evil Beast to murder him and steal his ultimate treasure, the Rejuvenation Pearl. Before he died, to keep Wanqi You from getting the pearl, the Divine Monarch split it into three pieces. This is one of those fragments."
"How do you know all this so clearly?"
"Auntie Cen Rong is a descendant of that Divine Monarch. Before he died, the Divine Monarch used a secret technique to transfer his memories to his closest kin, and they were recorded in their history. The Divine Monarch’s descendants got their revenge by killing Wanqi You and banishing his descendants to the desolate mountains. They just never expected a remnant of his soul to be left behind."
As a descendant of the Divine Monarch, Cen Rong possessed many fine things, a fact Little Zhenzhen had noticed at first glance.
Sang Luo laughed. "No wonder you cozied up to her the moment you met. You’re not even that affectionate with your own father!"
"Mommy is the most important person in my heart! Stinky old Daddy can go wherever he wants and cool off~"
"I’m going to tell your father you said that."
"Waaah, don’t!"
Too late. Si Ye had walked over and heard everything. A vein twitched on his forehead. "We’re having a vegetarian dinner tonight."
"Boo hoo, Daddy, Zhenzhen loves you the most!" Little Zhenzhen threw herself into his arms, instantly turning on the charm. Her change of tune was remarkably fast.
Sang Luo looked down at the gray bead in her hand.
It was a shame it was only a fragment, but it was also a good thing. Otherwise, Wanqi You would have revived long ago.
"So that Divine Beast was the Cen Family’s ancestor... That means this treasure belongs to the Cen Family. Should I go back to the City Lord Mansion and return it to its rightful owner?"
"No need. The fact that you found it, Mommy, means you were the one fated to have it. Besides, Lord Cen Rong doesn’t need this," Little Zhenzhen revealed. "The Wanqi Clan has always been a major problem for Lord Cen Rong. She was powerless to eliminate them, so she wanted to borrow your and Daddy’s strength to get rid of her foes."
"A purely transactional relationship is actually more trustworthy."
Now that her greatest problem was solved, Cen Rong treated Sang Luo and her party as guests of honor. On the day they were set to leave, she personally came to see them off. "You’re leaving so soon? Why not stay in the city for a few more days?"
Cen Rong looked at Little Zhenzhen, clearly reluctant to part with her.
"I’m afraid not. Our mission is complete, so it’s time to head to the next destination. Thank you for your hospitality, Lord Cen. Perhaps we’ll meet again if fate allows!"
"If that time comes, you must inform me. I will personally welcome you and host a grand banquet to celebrate your arrival."
The group left Yanglai City and headed for their next destination.
Perhaps she wasn’t used to the climate, or maybe the journey was just too rough, but Sang Luo had lost her appetite over the past few days. She was listless and melancholic, which made everyone anxious.
At first, Si Ye assumed the food on the ship wasn’t to her liking. He decided to improve her meals, personally catching several plump and tender Star Beasts to prepare a feast.
But when Sang Luo saw a plate of fatty meat, she covered her mouth and dry-heaved.
She nearly vomited up bile.
