Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 311 - 250: I Have Met Your Illegitimate Son
Three days later, the Holy Temple Envoys arrived as promised.
This time, only two people came: the Archbishop and the young Holy Envoy with the silken band across his eyes.
All the outsiders in the hall had withdrawn, leaving only the three of them in a standoff.
"Has Your Majesty thought it through?"
Duotu’s face was pale. "I have thought about it carefully these past three days... This Empire, if you want it, then take it. I can give up everything here, as long as I can keep my son."
Even the Archbishop was stunned for a moment and looked to the young Holy Envoy beside him.
The young man spoke, "Your Majesty has worked diligently for years, governing the Empire with impeccable order. We have all seen it. No one is more suited to be the ruler of this nation than you."
He then looked at the little lion cub in Duotu’s arms.
"Without the Empire as a bargaining chip, Your Majesty will truly be unable to keep your heir."
"What in the world do you want!" Duotu’s anger, suppressed for several days, finally erupted.
’These people from the Holy Hall, so high and mighty, looking down on everyone. By what right do they think they can just casually snatch my son away from me!’
’He only has this one son left. Why must even his son be taken away?’
"You can’t take him, but I can give you everything else!"
Hephis leaped down from Duotu’s arms and pleaded with the two envoys, "Please, I’m begging you, don’t take me away! I won’t go with you! I just want to stay by my father’s side. You... if you try to take me by force, I-I’ll smash my head and kill myself!"
After saying this, he actually looked around, picked out a sturdy, white pillar, and tensed his hind legs as if to charge right into it.
"Heh." The young man seemed amused. As he raised his hand, a golden barrier materialized to block the cub.
’So young, yet he already knows how to threaten people.’
Of course, Hephis had no real intention of crashing into the pillar; he was just trying to scare them.
But if he were truly pushed to the edge, a child’s impulsive nature was a frightening thing to consider.
The Archbishop was also at a bit of a loss.
’The child is dead set against going with us, so there’s nothing we can do. Taking him by force might backfire and cause this rare, precious heir to resent us, which is certainly not an outcome the Holy Hall desires.’
The young man’s voice was gentle and refined. "If the Young Master doesn’t wish to leave, we won’t force him. But please remember, Your Majesty, that the one and only faith of the Angel Clan is the Holy Hall. For generations, they serve the Holy Hall, dedicating everything to it, up to and including... their lives."
Duotu’s face turned icy. ’Isn’t this just forcing me to make a vow? Forcing me, my future successor Hephis, and the entire Yalan Empire to become their loyal lapdogs.’
He looked at the innocent child and, after a long silence, said hoarsely, "Fine."
At this, the Archbishop nodded in satisfaction. "In that case, the Holy Hall can rest assured and allow the heir to grow up in the Empire. However, we must still trouble Your Majesty to hand the child over to us first. We need to take him back to the Holy Hall. After we perform his Enlightenment, we will return him to Your Majesty."
Duotu, of course, knew about the Angel Clan’s hereditary Enlightenment. A Beastman who failed to receive the Angel Clan’s inheritance before their transformation would be unable to wield their bloodline’s power, even if they awakened it.
He had come to terms with it last night. ’Hephis is my most precious bloodline. I would give my life for this child... I can’t, for my own selfish desires, forcibly clip the wings that would let him fly.’
"Very well. I trust the Holy Hall’s decision, but I ask that you forge a Heaven and Earth Contract with me to ensure the child is returned to me after the Enlightenment is complete."
The Archbishop replied, "Of course. I will personally form the contract with Your Majesty. Please rest assured."
But Duotu turned his head to look at the young Holy Envoy in the simple white robes standing beside the Archbishop. His attire was no different from that of the other envoys, but instinct told Duotu that this man was far from simple. Even the Archbishop showed a subtle reverence toward him.
"I wish to make the Heaven and Earth Contract with this Holy Envoy."
The Archbishop was about to speak sharply, but the young man raised a hand to stop him and said gently, "As Your Majesty wishes."
A magnificent golden array appeared at their feet. Then, the array transformed into a streak of light and vanished into the void.
The Heaven and Earth Contract was complete.
"Now, can Your Majesty entrust the heir to us?" The young man extended a hand toward him.
A fair, slender hand emerged from the heavy, intricate holy robes. With its clearly defined knuckles, it was as beautiful as a work of art meticulously carved by a god.
"Hephis, come here." Duotu crouched down and picked up the little lion cub as he ran over. He stared at him intently for a long time, kissed his head, and then, with a cold expression, handed the child over to them.
The young man held the tense little lion cub, his beautiful, slender fingers gently stroking his soft fur. He asked, as if in passing, "Who is the child’s mother?"
Duotu’s expression flickered, and his voice became exceedingly cold. "She passed away unexpectedly during childbirth. It was many years ago."
"Oh, is that so? What a pitiful child..." The young man’s fingers passed before the little lion cub’s eyes, and the child, without realizing it, slumped in his arms and fell asleep.
Duotu’s heart leaped into his throat. Only after seeing that the child was unharmed and merely asleep did he manage to calm himself. "Please, Holy Envoy, return my child as you have promised."
"Rest assured, Your Majesty."
The two of them took the child and disappeared into the void.
Duotu stared for a long time in the direction they had left. Slowly, all the strength seemed to drain from his body, and he slid down the wall to the floor.
...
「Beyond the World—the Holy Hall.」
The young man entered a courtyard, carrying the child.
A beautiful female Angel was watering flowers in the backyard.
She had long, golden hair that shimmered like sunlight and rose-pink eyes. She wore a veil, but one could still glimpse the delicate beauty of her features. The pair of folded white wings at her back possessed a sacred beauty so breathtaking that it made one hold their breath, daring not to look directly.
"Aunt Anano, I’ve brought back the cub who was lost."
"You went down personally." The female Angel set down her watering can and looked toward the entrance.
"He is a rare bloodline in our clan, after all." The young man casually plucked a red rose, his voice deep and pleasant, like the slow draw of a cello. "Also, I’ve met that bastard son of yours who was living in exile. It turns out he’s also..."
The female Angel’s gentle face suddenly twisted into a savage expression as she cut him off sharply, "Don’t you mention him to me!"
"It has been so many years." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Anano sneered, "I will never forget that stain on my life. Giving birth to that half-breed bastard... Back then! I should have just strangled him to death!"
Her emotions grew more frantic. "Every day he lives is a reminder of his damned, disgusting father! A reminder of what that beast did to me! Not only did he imprison me in the palace for so many years, he killed Metheus!"
The young man stated, "Egarli Yalan died seven years, one month, and three days ago."
Anano’s expression gradually calmed.
A moment later, she simply said,
"Good riddance!"
"Please take a look at this child, Aunt. His Angel Clan bloodline is inherited from you." The young man handed her the sleeping lion cub.
Anano’s expression was cold. "Another ill-omened lion."
Despite her words of disgust, she reached out and held her little grandson.
The young man chuckled. "He’s very cute, isn’t he?"
As Anano stroked the white wings on the little lion cub’s back, her pupils suddenly dilated as if she had seen something terrifying. She threw the cub from her arms onto the ground and screamed,
"Get away! Get away from me, don’t haunt me!"
