Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 31 - 18: Lan Cang’s Whereabouts
"The Star Beast’s residual energy has dissipated. The search party found the Star Beast King’s corpse yesterday morning. Its Beast Crystal had been removed." Leon activated his Light Brain. "...There are two recordings. Sir, would you like to watch?"
A virtual light screen appeared.
A colossal Star Beast, part tortoise and part serpent, stood hundreds of meters tall. The ground shook with its every step. Behind it followed a dense, dark horde of beasts, thousands upon thousands strong, like a plague of locusts that razed everything in its path to rubble.
The Beastmen from all the major tribes were fleeing for their lives. Only one young, black-haired Beastman had yet to retreat. But he was outmatched and alone, clearly no match for it. Before the behemoth, he was like an ant that could be swatted into paste with a single strike.
His strength was clearly failing. He ripped off the nearly-shattered neck ring, and the number of Beast Patterns on his arm surged—seven incredibly vivid purple marks. Then, his entire body transformed. He became a massive black wolf wreathed in golden lightning and charged into the Beast Tide!
At the same time, the heavens and earth trembled. Low, dark clouds unleashed countless bolts of golden lightning that slashed downward!
He engaged the Star Beast King in a battle to the death.
The Star Beast King was clearly stronger than the Beastman, but no matter what it did, the Beastman just wouldn’t die. In the end, with barely a breath left in him, he managed to wear the Star Beast King down to its death.
A Thunder Talent.
And a Golden Thunder System at that—the one with the strongest Attack Power.
Caesar’s gaze hardened slightly as he recalled something. "Which tribe is this Wolf Beast from?"
"According to our investigation, no Beastman of this caliber has ever appeared in the Rubel Forest before. He’s likely not a native." Leon, having served Caesar for many years, could anticipate his line of thinking. He immediately added, "This Wolf Beast probably isn’t the noble female’s partner. I had my men look into it. Her partner is just an ordinary Wolf Beast from the Kordo Tribe, while this one is a Mutated Thunder Cloud Wolf. They aren’t the same person."
"I’m not so sure."
There was another recording.
After the Wolf Beast killed the Star Beast King, it immediately dug out the Beast Crystal. Without even pausing to catch its breath, it dragged its battered body and sprinted back to the ruins of the Kordo Tribe.
It seemed to be desperately searching for something, digging through the rubble of every collapsed house. Its already trembling paws were now dripping with blood. As time passed, its mood grew increasingly despondent and frantic. It tore through all the nearby ruins but only unearthed countless, unrecognizable corpses.
It let out a grief-stricken howl to the sky. Afterward, it lay on the highest pile of rubble in the ruins and waited quietly for three days and three nights before leaving.
Leon found it strange. "The instruments detected its Frenzy Value had surpassed 80, which should mean it was in an out-of-control state. But it seemed to retain a sliver of reason. It actually didn’t forget to look for someone, which is different from other Beastmen who go berserk."
"Where is he now?"
"The Wolf Beast is extremely cautious. He doesn’t act like a normal tribesman; instead, he’s more like a trained soldier. His counter-surveillance skills are exceptional. He quickly discovered the personnel we sent out, shook the search party, and vanished along with the Beast Tide."
"Right, there’s one more thing. Our men found the neck ring the Wolf Beast dropped at the site of the ruins. On it... is the mark of the Stars." Leon produced a sealed bag.
Caesar put on white leather gloves and took the broken neck ring from the sealed bag.
On the back of the neck ring was a mark of three shattered stars.
This was the symbol of the Stars, the Empire’s largest rebel army.
Leon said, "This Wolf Beast is very likely connected to the rebel army!"
Caesar didn’t speak. He rubbed his finger over the neck ring, picking up a trace of blackened blood.
He took off the glove and handed it to Leon.
"Have this analyzed."
"Yes, sir."
"The men dispatched to the Rubel Forest are not to return for now. Have them remain stationed there. Report to me immediately if anything happens, especially anything related to the Kordo Tribe or the whereabouts of that Wolf Beast." Caesar was still uneasy.
After her shower, Sang Luo changed into a long-sleeved, misty-blue bathrobe made of ice silk. She poured a glass of fruit wine and stood before the floor-to-ceiling window.
Her unruly black hair was still damp, cascading over her slender, pale shoulders, which only accentuated her snow-white skin. Her palm-sized face was delicate and charming, her crimson lips alluring.
The moment Caesar returned, he was hit by a scent in the air that nearly drove him wild. His gaze fell upon her, slowly growing heated. "That robe suits you well."
"Did you have this prepared for me?"
"Mm, do you like it?"
