Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 270 - 210: Fei Yuan’s Old Love
Sang Luo sized him up critically, then shook her head. "A pity. I’m quite particular about looks when I choose a Beast Husband."
"What do you mean by that? Are you calling me ugly?!" Ji Li Jun, who had been laughing just a moment before, was instantly incensed. "I’m one of the most famous beauties in all the sea regions!"
Lou Xianyue frowned. "Enough nonsense. Why is the Old Beast Emperor in seclusion? As I recall, he was still in robust health a few years ago. Is he trying to break through to a higher realm?"
"What else could it be? The old man’s life is nearing its end," Ji Li Jun shrugged. "He’s gone into death seclusion to attempt a breakthrough and extend his lifespan."
Sang Luo’s eyes lit up. "I happen to have a great gift I can offer the North Sea’s Old Beast Emperor in trade. He will certainly have need of a Reincarnation Pill."
"A Reincarnation Pill?" Ji Li Jun was dumbfounded. "You really have one of those things!"
Fearing he wouldn’t believe her, Sang Luo took out the Reincarnation Pill. Anyone with any expertise would know if it was genuine. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Ji Li Jun was so shocked he stammered, "Y-you... Where did this come from?"
"The North Sea Beast Emperor needn’t worry about where it came from. Rest assured, it was obtained through legitimate channels. How does a trade for this Reincarnation Pill sound?"
"Of course." Ji Li Jun forced himself to appear calm, but his slightly trembling hands betrayed the storm raging within him.
Sang Luo recalled Lou Xianyue mentioning that he had almost died the last time he’d tried a Reincarnation Pill.
’Fei Yuan’s skills are a bit unstable.’
’This new batch of Reincarnation Pills has divine patterns, so they’re ninety-nine percent likely to be fine. But no one has tried one yet...’ Sang Luo was still uneasy. ’It’s best to find someone to test it first.’
Just in case, she used a Communication Jade Scroll to ask Fei Yuan if he could craft another Reincarnation Pill.
After a short wait, an unhurried message came back from him.
"I can. As long as I have the Elixir Recipe, the Alchemy itself isn’t a problem. Finding the materials will take some time, but I can make another one before you give birth."
’That’s a relief.’
"My great-grandfather will surely agree, but this matter is too important. I have to go back and report it first," Ji Li Jun said, eager to leave. "I will have an answer for you soon."
"Wait," Lou Xianyue called out to him. "I must ask the North Sea Beast Emperor to make a heavenly oath that this matter will not be told to outsiders. Please also keep our identities secret from the Old Beast Emperor for the time being. If he agrees to the trade, use this to contact us."
Lou Xianyue handed him a Communication Conch, which only allowed communication between the two specific parties.
"Alright." Ji Li Jun accepted it without hesitation, swore the heavenly oath, and then departed.
After spending the better part of a month at the Sea Palace, Sang Luo returned to the Phoenix Palace on the East Continent. Fei Yuan had been acting strangely for the past few days. Even though he knew she was back, he hadn’t come to see her, and she had no idea what he was busy with.
Unfortunately, the mark he had left on her was just a tracking sigil, allowing him to follow her whereabouts unilaterally. She had no way of knowing where he was or what he was doing.
Sang Luo sat in a pavilion in the Imperial Garden, eating Spirit Fruits to stave off boredom.
A heated argument erupted from somewhere nearby.
"You insolent servants, get out of my way! Stop blocking me!"
"Ran Ying, you really can’t go in!"
"On what grounds can you stop me? I’ve visited the Imperial Palace countless times and often stroll through this very Imperial Garden. Why am I suddenly barred from entry? This is absurd!"
"His Majesty specifically ordered that the Imperial Garden be reserved for that noble female to relax and stroll in. No outsiders are allowed to disturb her."
"Indeed. That noble female is carrying His Majesty’s phoenix heir, and she is in a very delicate state. We absolutely cannot allow any accidents. I just saw her go to the pavilion over there to rest. If you truly wish to enter, noble female, please wait until she has left. Don’t make things difficult for us."
"Hmph! She’s nothing more than a pregnant female. It’s not like the Imperial Garden belongs to her! How utterly tyrannical! Why would His Majesty fall for a female like that?!"
The shouting was giving Sang Luo a headache. She turned to the Servant beside her and asked, "Who is that making such a racket outside?"
"Reporting to the noble female, it is a noble female of the Great Argus Clan named Ran Ying."
The Servant explained, "The Great Argus Clan is an ancient, indigenous noble family. They’re considered distant relatives of the Phoenix Clan, though the bloodline is remote. They are treated as honored guests by all other clans."
"This Ran Ying is known for being arrogant and unruly. I’ll have her removed at once!"
Sang Luo said, "She’s a relative of the imperial family, more or less. It wouldn’t be right to just drive her away. She just wants to tour the garden, doesn’t she? Let her in."
A moment later, a young female in a goose-yellow dress came in, surrounded by several servants.
Ran Ying, however, strode directly to the front of the pavilion. She crossed her arms, looking utterly haughty. "So, you’re the female carrying the phoenix seed?"
"..." ’So she came here for me.’
’If I’d known, I would have just had her sent away.’
Sang Luo sat up straight. "I am," she replied. "May I ask what business the noble female has with me? I don’t believe we’ve met."
Ran Ying gave her a critical once-over, her expression full of disdain. "So, it’s you. I was expecting some kind of siren, but you’re not even as beautiful as Charming Concubine..."
She had likely intended to belittle Sang Luo’s appearance, but after seeing her face, she couldn’t bring herself to lie so blatantly. Instead, she changed tacks, her gaze falling to Sang Luo’s flat stomach. With a sneer, she said, "Emperor Phoenix has been without an heir for centuries. How did you manage to get pregnant so fast? Perhaps it’s a bastard from who-knows-where."
"Ran Ying, you can’t make such wild accusations!" the servants she had brought with her hurriedly tried to intervene.
Ran Ying, however, was completely unconcerned. She flicked her fingernails and said, "I’m not just making things up. History is filled with precedents of females trying to rise in status through their sons, passing off bastards they conceived with guards or lovers as imperial heirs. Once discovered, their little lives were forfeit."
Sang Luo turned to her own servant. "Did you record all of that?"
The servant took out a Memory Stone. "Every single word Ran Ying spoke is recorded here."
Ran Ying’s expression changed dramatically. "You! What do you think you’re doing?!"
Sang Luo rose and walked leisurely down the steps of the pavilion, looking down on her. "His Majesty knows better than anyone if the child in my womb is his own," she said. "Yet you, an outsider who appeared from nowhere, dare to slander a noble imperial heir without a shred of evidence, claiming they are not of His Majesty’s blood. That is an act of gross disrespect."
She looked at the deathly pale Ran Ying, gently stroking her own belly as a sudden smile bloomed on her face. "If His Majesty were to learn that you have defiled the honor of his own flesh and blood..."
The servant to her right, quick on the uptake, seamlessly continued, "Anyone who dares slander a Prince shall, by law, be publicly beheaded. Even if the culprit is a female, she will be stripped of all she owns, exiled to the frontier, and forbidden from ever returning to the capital."
Ran Ying was so frightened she was on the verge of collapsing. "No, that’s not what I meant! I was just speaking carelessly..."
Sang Luo waved her hand. The guards dragged Ran Ying away and threw her out of the Imperial Palace, with orders that she was never to set foot inside again.
Her good mood for the day completely ruined, Sang Luo suddenly thought of something. She asked Nanny Fang, who was attending to her, "Who is the Charming Concubine that Ran Ying mentioned?"
Old Nanny Fang looked somewhat hesitant, but answered nonetheless. "The noble female known as Charming Concubine was originally named Le Xia. She is a Pure-blooded King Beast female from the Great Argus Clan, and she is at the True King Rank. Out of adoration for His Majesty, she voluntarily gave up her special honors to enter the Imperial Palace and become his concubine."
"Oh? One of Fei Yuan’s concubines?"
"Not just an ordinary concubine. It’s said she was with His Majesty back when he was young, before he even took the throne. She was his most beloved female, reigning supreme over the rear palace and enjoying endless favor."
