Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 22 - 13: Do You Have Other Females?
"You’re hurt?" Sang Luo stood at the door, smelling the faint scent of blood on him.
"No."
Lan Cang embraced her, resting his chin on her head and nuzzling it. "Pamir told me you were nearly attacked and injured by a Wandering Beast today—and that Manla was secretly behind it. I was terrified."
He was supposed to return the day after tomorrow, but after hearing the news, he rushed back to the tribe overnight, terrified something might have happened to her.
"Don’t worry, I’m fine. Manla was punished by being locked in the confinement room. She won’t be trying anything foolish again anytime soon."
"Yeah. She’ll never have the chance to hurt you again."
"You said you’d take me away from the Kordo Tribe in a month, and there are only a few days left. Have you decided where we’re going?" Sang Luo didn’t read too much into his comment, assuming that’s what he was referring to.
Lan Cang didn’t elaborate, just nodding with a smile. "I’ve already made arrangements in Solro City. We should pack our things in the next few days and set off. Life in the city is much better than in the tribe. I imagine you’ll like it."
As he spoke, his gaze fell upon her. Sang Luo was wearing a rose-red, ice-silk butterfly nightgown—something Lan Cang had specially picked out for her in a city shop on his last trip to the market. He had imagined then how beautiful she would look in it, and sure enough, the well-tailored silk fabric outlined her full, petite bust and slender waist, making her look both innocent and seductive.
Lan Cang’s hands gently explored her soft waist, his gaze slowly growing feverish.
Sang Luo knew exactly what was on his mind. A playful smile touched her lips as she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him, her eyes full of coquettish charm.
She blew softly in his ear.
"The Third Elder told me today that mating with you more... can increase my power."
Lan Cang’s ears instantly turned bright red.
It wasn’t their first time being intimate, but he still couldn’t resist her, and was only falling deeper. He flushed easily at her teasing, his mind replaying the exquisite pleasure of their nights together. His Adam’s apple bobbed. He swept her onto the bed, pushed aside her nightgown, and bent down, his arms wrapping around her thighs...
A sleepless night.
They didn’t stop until just before dawn.
The weather was beautiful, and the morning sun streaming through the window warmed her eyelids. Sang Luo woke lazily. To her surprise, Lan Cang was still asleep. Even in his sleep, he held her tightly, his head resting against her chest.
She felt a little breathless under his weight, so she gave his head a gentle push. Lan Cang immediately shielded half his face with his arm, his ears drooping. She couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. ’This is the first time I’ve ever seen him look so cute.’
’He’d been out hunting for days, and then came home to "work hard" all night satisfying his little female. It’s only natural that he’s exhausted.’
Sang Luo stroked his soft black hair. She knew he was awake but didn’t want to disturb their rare, peaceful moment. To make conversation, she asked, "What did you think the first time you saw me?"
Lan Cang opened his eyes and smiled at her, his voice hoarse and lazy, still thick with unsated desire. "A scrawny, dark-skinned little female. I wasn’t even sure you could be nursed back to health. I brought you back mostly out of pity. I never thought I’d come to like you this much. Otherwise, I might have been the one to find you in the ruins that day." He sounded a little regretful.
Sang Luo’s hand went to the black collar on his neck. "What’s this? You were wearing it the first time I saw you, and I’ve never seen you take it off."
She had assumed it was just an ornament, but it had changed color the last time he lost control.
"Er, don’t touch it."
Lan Cang’s voice suddenly grew tense. He caught her wandering hand and brought it to his lips for a kiss before continuing, "It’s from the black market. A Suppression Ring. It suppresses a Beastman’s Frenzy Value."
Once a Beastman’s Frenzy Value reaches 80 or higher, they lose control and go berserk.
At 100, they completely regress into a mindless, berserk beast.
At that point, they’re completely beyond saving and will be hunted down and killed by all other Beastmen.
The situation three years ago had been far more dangerous than the tribal rumors suggested. He had encountered a Seventh Rank Peak Star Beast, and his Frenzy Value had soared above 80.
Fortunately, he ran into a Beastman from a mysterious organization who had a Suppression Ring from the black market. It suppressed his Frenzy Value and saved his life.
Lan Cang reached up and touched the back of his neck. The Suppression Ring had a limited number of uses. It had cracked badly the last time he lost control, and he figured it wouldn’t survive another incident.
’His genes have been much calmer since he met her. Maybe he won’t need the Suppression Ring in the future.’
"The Third Elder also said you awakened your Talent Ability long ago," she suddenly recalled, her expression falling. "Why haven’t I gotten your Talent Ability? Were you with other females before me?"
Lan Cang shook his head frantically. "No, absolutely not! You’re my first female and my only mate for life!"
He explained that the secret lay in the collar. His Talent Power was so strong it could easily make his genes unstable, so he had sealed it away inside the ring. He would only unseal it when the time was right.
He couldn’t even use his Talent Power himself right now, so of course he couldn’t share it with her.
With no tasks for the day, Lan Cang got up to prepare lunch. As Sang Luo went out to wash the bedsheets, she ran into several frantic Beastmen rushing back from outside the tribe. She learned from them that Manla was dead.
She had died outside the tribe, leaving no corpse behind—only a few pieces of bloody clothing. The Beastmen on the morning patrol had found them and brought them back for identification.
Some speculated that the Wandering Beast Clan People from yesterday had come back for revenge, and the Clan Leader hastily arranged for more guards to heighten the alert.
"Manla was killed by Wandering Beasts. She died out there," Sang Luo said in disbelief, returning with the basin.
Lan Cang didn’t even bat an eye. He placed a few dishes on the table and grunted an "Mm," looking as nonchalant as if he were still half asleep.
"It was all so sudden," Sang Luo said, drying her hands on a towel. It felt like a dream.
"Do you think she didn’t deserve to die?"
"No, she got what she deserved. Good riddance!" she retorted, pursing her lips. "Manla came looking for trouble time and again. Yesterday, she actually tried to have me killed. If I were to stay in the Kordo Tribe permanently, who knows what else she might have plotted against me."
She was no saint; she practically wanted to clap and cheer.
Her reaction charmed Lan Cang. He beckoned her over to eat. "Alright, stop thinking about all that unpleasantness. Today, I made what you requested... hmm, what was it called again? Shumai?"
Sang Luo watched him as she ate. Noticing that Lan Cang wasn’t the least bit surprised, as if he had known all along, her heart trembled. "It wasn’t you, was it?"
"You said it yourself. She got what she deserved," he said, focusing quietly on his food.
It was a tacit admission.
Lan Cang was, by nature, tolerant of females. He had warned Manla before, but she had insisted on targeting Sang Luo time and time again.
She brought this end upon herself.
When Sang Luo didn’t speak, Lan Cang put down his chopsticks, looking apprehensive. "Do you... think I’m too cruel?"
"A male killing a female is a capital offense." She was more worried about his impulsiveness. What if someone from the Kordo Tribe found out? Wouldn’t he be bringing disaster upon himself?
"Have you forgotten what I do?"
"...A Mercenary."
In his line of work, he had the blood of hundreds, if not thousands, on his hands.
For Lan Cang to have taken such a risky path, he was never a man of pristine character to begin with. In essence, he was no different from the notorious Wandering Beasts; in fact, he likely had more blood on his hands than they did.
The old Clan Leader had shown him kindness, but the other members of the Kordo Tribe were just strangers to him.
Sang Luo was his one weak spot. He would never spare anyone who tried to harm her, no matter who it was.
"Sigh... We’d better hurry and pack. Let’s get out of here!"
Sang Luo sighed, finished her meal, and went to pack their things. She gathered everything of value in the house, her retreating figure looking for all the world like a fugitive on the run.
Lan Cang chuckled and went to help her. "You rest for a while. I’ll do it."
