Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 136 - 80: Discovering a Mine
After a wild night, they were up bright and early.
Lan Cang had kept Sang Luo up all night, leaving her utterly exhausted. She had wanted to sleep in, but he had dragged her up for breakfast and taken her to the altar to announce their relationship to the public! Every Beastman in the city now knew of her existence! She was his mate!
Everyone learned the truth of the matter, and the misunderstanding was cleared up.
"Ice-breaking City finally has a City Lord’s Wife!"
"The City Lord’s Wife is so beautiful! So gorgeous! I wonder if I’ll have a chance to be her second mate!"
"Me too! My strength can’t compare to the City Lord’s, but I’m a Seventh Rank Beastman at least! I don’t even need to be a Concubine. I’m willing to be a secret lover! Please take pity on me, my lady!"
"Look at me, my lady! I just came of age, I have great stamina, and I know lots of tricks. I’m begging you to train me~"
The entire city was in an uproar. After seeing Sang Luo’s true appearance, the group of single Male Beasts who had recently come of age acted as if they had entered their mating season early, scrambling over each other to offer themselves.
Lan Cang’s face darkened. Sang Luo chuckled and teased, "Regretting it now?"
"No regrets. You are my mate, and I want everyone under the heavens to know it." ’As for that pack of young punks in heat, a good beating will set them straight!’
On the way back, Lan Cang gently squeezed her hand. "The people of the city welcome you. If you’d like to continue living here..."
Sang Luo smiled. "I’ll come back for you."
With that one sentence, Lan Cang understood her heart. Joy and a bittersweet ache tangled within him. He pulled Sang Luo into a fierce embrace, holding her for a very long time before finally letting go. Pressing his forehead against hers, he whispered, "As long as you want to come back, I will always be waiting for you."
"Don’t worry, I’m not planning to leave just yet. And even after I do, I’ll definitely come back for you. I won’t make you wait too long." Sang Luo took his large, warm, slender hand, its heat comforting her palm. "Want to walk around with me?"
"Okay." Hearing her say that, Lan Cang relaxed. A charming smile graced his lips as he accompanied her on a stroll through the city.
The shops in the cities of the North Continent were not as prosperous as those in the Western Continent, but they held many precious materials not found on other continents.
On a whim, Sang Luo went into a Gambling Stone shop.
After some enthusiastic salesmanship from the clerk, she bought an unremarkable-looking Gambling Stone.
When it was cut open, it revealed a solid piece of emerald-green jade. It was a rarely seen large piece of jade material, flawlessly green and warm to the touch. It would be beautiful whether carved into beads, a Jade Bracelet, or a Jade Token.
What attracted her most was the pure Spiritual Energy within the stone.
"The noble female is truly lucky! This is an extremely rare Green Soul Jade. Made into a Jade Pendant and worn on the body, it can nourish one’s health. It’s very suitable for females!"
She had spent a few Low-grade Beast Crystals on a gamble and ended up with such a top-quality Spirit Jade! It was a huge win!
Many Beastmen in the shop came over to watch, gasping in amazement.
Not expecting such a small shop to produce something of such high quality, Lan Cang also bought a few Gambling Stones, but they only yielded very ordinary materials. He raised an eyebrow and smiled, "Luoluo, your luck is just too good."
But Sang Luo knew perfectly well it wasn’t just luck. ’Before I even entered, I sensed the aura of a Spiritual Treasure in this place. The moment I walked in, I was drawn to this particular Gambling Stone because the Spiritual Energy was emanating from it.’
Lan Cang took the jade to a Jade Room to have it made into a Jade Bracelet and a Jade Token. The leftover scraps would be carved into beads. They would come back to pick them up in a few days.
The two of them continued to stroll, shopping as they went. On their way back, Sang Luo found a little raccoon cat cub that was nearly frozen to death.
She quickly used her Fire Spiritual Power to warm it up. The small cub weakly opened its eyes and let out a feeble whimper. It looked too starved to have any strength, so Sang Luo took some dried meat from her storage space and fed it.
"I recognize this cub," Lan Cang said. "Its father was killed by a Star Beast a few days ago. With no one to care for it, it must have come out looking for food." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Once the little cub had recovered some strength and was able to walk, Sang Luo took out a large bag of dried meat. It was so hungry it practically snatched the food, grabbing a piece in its mouth before running off.
Most of the residents in Ice-breaking City were migratory Foreign Beastmen.
There were few females in the city, so very few cubs were born. Yet every year, several would freeze to death, especially frail cubs born that same year. They basically couldn’t survive the harsh winter. Only half the cubs managed to grow to adulthood.
This was not the first time Lan Cang had seen such a situation. He felt pity but didn’t interfere much.
He had grown up this way and didn’t find it particularly cruel. After all, the law of survival in the North Continent was survival of the fittest. Life that couldn’t survive the harsh environment was destined to be culled. Through generations of evolution, the native Beastmen of the North Continent had developed extremely strong physiques and powerful abilities.
Sang Luo understood this principle, but her heart still ached. She had never seen a place where people would freeze to death in winter.
"Is fuel very scarce in the North Continent? I saw several forests outside the city. If you chopped some for firewood, it should last for a long time."
"That kind of wood has high moisture content, little fiber, and almost no oil. It won’t burn," Lan Cang said. "There is a type of extremely precious Fire Source Stone that is rich in Fire Spiritual Power. A single one can burn for a long time, but a mineral source for it has yet to be discovered underground."
In the past, many Beastmen from the North Continent had tried to find and mine a source, but very few had succeeded.
"Fire Source Stone? I think I know where some is. Gather a few people and come with me!"
Sang Luo suddenly recalled that when she first arrived in the North Continent, she had seen a dense, red Fire Spiritual Power rising from a certain area. At the time, she thought it was some strange phenomenon. When she asked the other Beastmen in the Bounty Team, none of them had seen it. Only she could see that fluctuation of Spiritual Power.
Sang Luo had a flash of insight, finally guessing what the little lion’s Talent Ability, the [Eye of Image Breaking], was. This was the perfect opportunity to verify her theory.
Lan Cang didn’t doubt her for a second. He immediately assembled a team and followed her to the vicinity of that hill, ordering his men to start digging down.
Dozens of Beastmen transformed into giant marmots, about the size of large dogs, and buried their heads in their work, digging rapidly. By nightfall, they had dug down nearly a hundred meters.
Suddenly, a Beastman’s cry of surprise echoed from the bottom of the pit. "Boss! We’ve found a source of Fire Origin Stone!"
"Are you sure you’re not mistaken?"
"Absolutely certain!"
The hundred or so Beastmen cheered with joy.
Lan Cang’s breathing grew heavy with excitement.
"Luoluo, you are truly the savior of everyone in this city!"
"It was nothing. It’s great that we could find the source. Let’s hurry and dig, bring the Fire Crystal Stone up." Sang Luo shuddered as she glanced down into the pit. The mine shaft was quite deep, like an abyssal sinkhole with no visible bottom.
"This mine shaft is dug pretty deep. I’m afraid it won’t be easy to transport the ore from the bottom."
"We can bring it up." Lan Cang had a Snow Sculpture Beastman and several other Beastmen skilled at climbing go down with chests and iron chains.
A single round trip brought up over a thousand pounds of Fire Origin Stone, enough to last the entire city’s Beastmen for nearly half a month.
Lan Cang asked one of the Beastmen who had just come up, "How much is left down there?"
