Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 119 - 69: One Month Pregnant
Sang Luo had heard that Duotu had been purging treacherous factions lately.
After the Old Beast King’s unexpected death, power in the court had secretly shifted. Duotu’s position wasn’t secure after he ascended the throne, and he was desperate to reclaim the power held by the noble Princes, bit by bit, to stabilize his rule.
But the ones he had purged were just small fry on the surface. The real heavy hitters were still hiding in the shadows, and there was no telling when they might lash out and strike back.
Sang Luo was still quite confident in Duotu’s methods and style. His strategies and talent surpassed those of his father, Egarli Yalan.
’If he really can’t hold onto this position, then he can forget about raising a child.’
Sang Luo stopped paying attention to the affairs of the court, focusing instead on her current pregnancy.
She had thought that with her experience from her first two pregnancies, this one would be much easier. In reality, it was no less difficult than before. She even suspected she was going to eat the Yalan Family’s entire treasury bare.
As Duotu watched her belly slowly grow, he couldn’t hide the joy at the corners of his eyes.
Sang Luo said, "Your Majesty, this child’s talent will likely be quite a surprise. You’d better prepare plenty of food so the baby and I don’t go hungry."
"Of course, of course. Those fellows at court have hidden away plenty of good things. Just you wait, I’ll get them all for you."
"Confiscating their property? The ministers and nobles will be quite disheartened to hear you say that," she said, winking playfully.
"Those people aren’t loyal subjects anyway. But Luoluo, don’t you worry. I’ll clean them all out."
Duotu looked at her with deep affection. "I will give you and our child the absolute best of everything I have to give."
Sang Luo was silent. An uncontrollable ripple of emotion stirred in her heart, but she quickly suppressed it. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
She got up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, opening it to let in a gust of cold air.
Looking up at the overcast sky, she held out her hand. A tiny snowflake landed in her palm and quickly melted.
"Your Majesty, it’s snowing!" Sang Luo said excitedly.
"Is this your first time seeing the snowy season on the Western Continent?" Duotu came over and draped a Snow Mink cloak over her, wrapping her up so snugly not a wisp of air could get in. "Don’t catch a chill from the wind."
"I suppose so. I used to live in a border tribe. During the cold season, it would snow heavily—the snow would be half a meter thick. I couldn’t even leave my home. I could only stay inside and wait for others to bring me food from their hunts."
"In your old tribe..." Duotu began to speak quickly, obviously wanting to ask more, but the words died in his throat. He swallowed the rest of his sentence and simply ruffled her hair. "You’ve suffered."
"I lived in my old tribe for over a decade. Doesn’t Your Majesty want to know what my life was like before? Don’t you want to know if there was anyone else by my side?"
Duotu knew she came from a small, unknown tribe in the Rubel Forest on the border, but he had never pressed her about her past. Perhaps he already knew the answer in his heart and thus chose to remain silent on the matter.
"I don’t care about your past. As long as you’re willing to be with me now, that’s enough."
「The Yalan Empire entered its cold season, which would last for several months.」
Quan Xiu left the Western Continent overnight.
During this time, Duotu watched her even more closely. Except for when he was holding court, he kept her by his side at nearly every moment, never letting her out of his sight.
Sang Luo said to him, "Your Majesty, do you remember what I told you last time? Caesar wasn’t my first partner. Perhaps he isn’t as important to me as you imagine. The man is dead; you don’t have to be on guard against him as if he were a thief."
"...Your first partner wasn’t him? Then who was it? Did you have other partners in your old tribe?"
"Yes," Sang Luo replied, staring intently at him.
A flash of jealousy crossed Duotu’s eyes but was just as quickly hidden. He said gently, "Luoluo, I don’t care. Are you thinking of bringing him here? He’s still in the Kordo Tribe, isn’t he? I’ll send someone—"
"The Kordo Tribe was invaded by a Beast Tide and was reduced to ruins long ago. Your Majesty needn’t trouble yourself with any other ideas. Now, I truly only have you." Her smile slowly faded.
Duotu hugged her and kissed her cheek, whispering, "...I—I didn’t mean it like that. I meant if we brought him here, you wouldn’t have to worry about him anymore. I just want to be the only one you worry about."
"That won’t do."
"Luoluo!" His expression grew tense.
Sang Luo patted her belly and gave a gentle smile. "There’s still our child. Besides me, Your Majesty will have one more person to worry about."
