From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor-Chapter 365 - 340: Second-Tier Celebrity
Xu Chunliang hadn’t been seated for long when a man and a woman approached him. Both were Xudong’s assistants, and they gestured for Xu Chunliang to move over one seat. Looking around, Xu Chunliang saw that all the seats were reserved, and he didn’t want to take someone else’s spot, so he declined.
The man was a bit agitated and said to Xu Chunliang, "I’m Mr. Xudong’s assistant, could you please move over a bit? We want to sit here to keep an eye on things."
Xu Chunliang replied indifferently, "Why should I give up my seat? It’s not like those people can’t handle themselves."
Xudong, overhearing the conversation, turned around and gave Xu Chunliang an unfriendly glare. He called over a staff member and whispered a few instructions, convinced that his status was enough to make others comply and accommodate him.
The staff member, putting on a smile for the celebrity, soon came to Xu Chunliang and whispered, "Sir, I can find another seat for you. Would that be alright?"
Xu Chunliang normally wouldn’t bother arguing with a minor celebrity, but Su Qing had arranged the seat for him. Why should he move? What’s so special about a second-rate celebrity? Besides, Huayuan Group is a sponsor of this New Year’s Eve show, and this guy is here making money from us, and then still tries to act high and mighty. Doesn’t even know who’s in charge here.
Xu Chunliang smiled at the two assistants and said, "Get lost!"
The two assistants were taken aback, thinking they had misheard, but after exchanging glances, they realized he was indeed insulting them.
The staff member said, "Sir, can I see your ticket?"
Xu Chunliang squinted at him, "Haven’t I shown you enough courtesy already?"
"Sir, you don’t have a ticket, do you? Please follow the rules, or I’ll have security escort you out."
Xu Chunliang was furious and pointed at the two assistants, "Why don’t you check their tickets?"
Just then, the staff member who had initially brought Xu Chunliang over ran over and told his colleague that Xu Chunliang was a friend of Su Qing, and Su Qing had arranged this seat for him. They decided to find Xu Chunliang another seat, as compared to Xudong, Su Qing was just a newcomer, while Xudong was a big star.
Xu Chunliang was about to explode when he suddenly heard a familiar voice calling him.
"Dean Xu, is that you? Come sit here!"
It was Sheng Chaohui who had arrived with two vice-presidents from the company. Sheng Chaohui’s seat was right next to Xudong, and he had overheard the conversation. Sheng Chaohui asked one of the vice-presidents to sit in the back so he could offer his seat to Xu Chunliang.
Xu Chunliang thought about it and opted not to escalate the situation for now. He went to the front row, but he didn’t take the assistant’s seat. Instead, he let Sheng Chaohui sit there, and he took Sheng Chaohui’s seat, which was right next to Xudong.
Xudong glanced at him, and Xu Chunliang smiled back. Xudong rolled his eyes dramatically.
Xu Chunliang thought to himself, "You idiot, if I don’t make you look silly today, I’ll take your last name."
Sheng Chaohui chuckled and said, "Dean Xu, here to watch the show too?"
Xu Chunliang replied, "Just like you, spending money to watch the show. Changxing also threw in some sponsorship money."
Sheng Chaohui laughed heartily.
Xu Chunliang said, "In today’s world, it’s hard to tell who’s who anymore. Look at these little celebrities, all acting so high and mighty as if they’ve made it big. Who’s giving them this sense of self-importance?"
Sheng Chaohui nodded along. He had once suffered under Xu Chunliang’s hand and still relied on him for the antidote to the Five Poison Heart Attack Pill. It could be said that Xu Chunliang had thoroughly intimidated him. From experience, he knew that this little celebrity was in trouble today.
Sheng Chaohui tried to appease him, "Dean Xu, if anyone’s upset you, let me know, and I’ll blacklist them immediately."
Xudong, seated nearby, heard the conversation and felt a bit scared. Despite his arrogance, he was only a big star in Dongzhou and at best a second-tier celebrity elsewhere. He didn’t know Xu Chunliang, but he knew Sheng Chaohui, the boss of Enheng Pharmaceutical.
Just then, Zhao Feiyang and his wife, representing Huanyan Health, also arrived. Xu Chunliang stood up to greet them. Zhao Feiyang gave Xu Chunliang a friendly pat on the shoulder and said, "You’re here early. Why don’t you come sit next to me?" Seeing Xu Chunliang and Sheng Chaohui sitting together, he was puzzled about since when they had become such good friends.
Xudong, witnessing the scene, grew increasingly uneasy, sensing he might have crossed the wrong person today.
Xu Chunliang hadn’t been seated long when Su Qing came over to greet him. She had gone to the seat she arranged but couldn’t find him there, and was surprised to see him in the front row.
"Why are you sitting here?" Su Qing asked, quite surprised.
Xu Chunliang smiled and said, "I can see you clearly from here." He noticed Su Qing’s dress was a bit low-cut today, her white shoulders quite eye-catching. Fortunately, her chest was well-covered. When Xu Chunliang noticed, he also saw Xudong looking, and his anger flared up: "Believe me, I’ll dig your eyes out if you look again. Do you think you have the right to look?" Turning to face him, Xu Chunliang also noticed Sheng Chaohui’s eyes weren’t quite behaving either.
Su Qing’s pretty face felt a bit hot, speaking so openly in front of so many people, she had to prepare, and told Xu Chunliang to take care of himself.
After Su Qing left, Sheng Chaohui flattered Xu Chunliang with a face full of admiration: "She’s really beautiful." His eyes hadn’t been idle just now either.
The smile on Xu Chunliang’s face suddenly vanished, startling Sheng Chaohui, who quickly explained, "I didn’t mean anything by it, really, I didn’t mean anything, just appreciation, pure appreciation."
Xu Chunliang said, "You wouldn’t dare."
Sheng Chaohui admitted he wouldn’t dare, because of the Zhao Xiaohui incident that almost cost him his life. Xu Chunliang was really too arrogant, but he had the capital to be arrogant. Thinking of the three centipedes Xu Chunliang had inserted into his body made Sheng Chaohui shiver.
Xu Chunliang pointed at Xudong on the program list and deliberately said to Sheng Chaohui, "Is he a singer?"
Sheng Chaohui nodded, not knowing why the scene of Xu Chunliang stuffing centipedes into Xudong’s mouth flashed in his mind.
Xu Chunliang looked at Xudong and said, "You actually sing?"
Xudong pretended not to hear, but he already knew in his heart that this guy was not easy to provoke. It was best to play dumb in this situation, there’s no way he would rush up and bite him in front of everyone.
Xu Chunliang unceremoniously patted him, "I’m talking to you."
Sheng Chaohui felt there was something behind that pat, don’t ask how he knew, he had experience.
Xudong’s two assistants were not happy, a male assistant reached over and patted Xu Chunliang’s shoulder, "Sir, please keep your distance."
Xu Chunliang said coldly, "Take your paws off!"
The assistant suddenly felt a burning pain in his palm and quickly withdrew his hand. In no time, his hand was covered with dense red bumps. He had no idea what was happening, but one pat on Xu Chunliang’s shoulder had turned into this. He quickly opened a bottle of mineral water and rinsed his hand, but instead of improving, his hand swelled up visibly.
"My hand... my hand..." the male assistant was so scared he quickly got up and left, he needed to go to the hospital. The itching and burning were too unbearable.
People around were mostly unaware of what happened. Xudong felt a shiver down his spine upon learning why his assistant left, realizing the person beside him was peculiar, just as his performance time arrived.
Xudong decided to leave after singing. When he went on stage, there were still quite a few fangirls waving banners specially made for him. It’s really strange how both major and minor stars have fans nowadays. Maybe they aren’t infatuated with the star themselves, but with the process of being a fan.
Xu Chunliang felt that Xudong wasn’t even as good looking as him, thin like a chick. He was sure he could knock down five or six of him with a punch. The aesthetics of today’s youth were somewhat distorted.
Xudong went on stage and began to prepare for the performance. As the music intro started and he opened his mouth to sing, his throat became incredibly itchy. He couldn’t help but clear his throat, but clearing it only made it worse, as if someone was tickling him with a feather inside. He wished he could scratch his vocal cords hard enough.
Xudong was about to sing his most representative work, but the moment he made a sound, he was obviously off-key, causing waves of laughter from the audience below. These singers weren’t that amazing, seemed like a KTV off-key level.
He quickly made a gesture to pause the performance, thankfully it was being pre-recorded, and could be rectified. If it were live, it would have been irreparable.
A naive young female fan shouted loudly from below, "Xudong, my heart aches for you!" "Xudong, take care of yourself!"
Xu Chunliang really didn’t understand these silly kids. Do they ever feel that for their own parents? Feeling this for someone, does he feed or clothe you? Or guarantee you a life of peace and health?
Xudong adjusted his mindset, communicated with the live director, and the recording resumed. His throat was still uncomfortable, but this time he wasn’t afraid because he decided to lip-sync, he just needed to match the lips. He thought about giving up, but giving up would mean not getting the final payment and possibly facing claims. For the sake of money, he had to perform.
After all, it’s recorded, viewers on TV wouldn’t be able to tell. The director also consented to lip-syncing, as long as it didn’t affect the final result.
Sheng Chaohui glanced at Xu Chunliang, thinking to himself that Xudong’s subpar performance was definitely related to him. What method did Xu Chunliang use this time? Sitting so close, he didn’t see him make a move?
Xu Chunliang originally planned to give Xudong a little punishment, to embarrass him publicly. But he didn’t expect him to have a trick up his sleeve with lip-syncing as a trump card.
Xudong continued to sing and interact with the audience, and a group of fans didn’t even know he was lip-syncing, waving banners and screaming.
He slowly regained his state, and when his eyes met Xu Chunliang’s, he felt as if he couldn’t move his gaze away from him, this was the Soul Capturing Technique. As Xu Chunliang’s skills quietly recovered, many skills could be used at will. There were many ways to deal with such lowlife characters.
