From A Producer To A Global Superstar-Chapter 389: Song Done
The studio smelled faintly of wood polish, electronics, and that strange warm air that always lived inside recording rooms where the air conditioning never quite matched the heat of the equipment. Dayo stepped inside behind Davido while Shina followed with his camera already lifted to his shoulder, the red recording light blinking softly.
The room was not huge, but everything inside it looked serious. A mixing desk stretched across the center like the cockpit of a plane. Two tall speakers stood on each side of the console. Behind the glass panel was the vocal booth with a microphone hanging in the middle and thick foam panels lining the walls.
Two producers were already seated in front of the system. One of them turned around when they entered.
"Ah, boss don come."
Davido laughed and dropped his phone on the table.
"Make we work abeg. Internet don already dey shout make we no loose this hype. "
Shina quietly moved to one corner and began filming the room slowly, capturing the moment Dayo greeted everyone and shook hands with the engineers. It still amazed him how calm Dayo looked even though the entire internet was currently losing its mind about this collaboration.
Davido leaned forward toward the producer.
"Play the reference."
The producer clicked something on the computer and a beat began filling the room through the speakers. It had an Afrobeat rhythm but with a smooth melodic line layered over it, the type of sound that could easily move between club speakers and radio airwaves.
Dayo listened carefully, nodding slightly while the beat played.
Davido pointed toward the speakers while speaking.
"The idea simple. We keep the energy but we go adjust the structure small."
The producer nodded.
"Hook first?"
"Yeah."
Davido stood up and walked into the vocal booth while the engineer adjusted the microphone level. Through the glass they could see him testing the headphones and tapping the rhythm lightly with his fingers.
The beat restarted.
Davido began singing the hook.
His voice carried easily through the studio speakers, confident and relaxed the way someone sounded when they had recorded hundreds of songs before.
The first attempt ended.
Inside the control room nobody spoke immediately.
The producer scratched his chin.
"Something small off."
Davido pushed the headphones slightly away from his ears.
"Play am again."
They replayed the recording.
This time everyone listened more carefully.
The rhythm of the words was slightly early compared to the beat.
Dayo leaned forward in his chair.
"I think the pause before the second line is too short."
Davido looked at him through the glass.
"How you mean?"
Dayo stood up and stepped into the booth beside him.
"Let me show you."
The producer rewound the beat again.
Dayo hummed the melody quietly, then demonstrated how the words could stretch slightly longer before the beat dropped again.
He was not trying to copy Davido exactly, but his voice followed the same tone and style closely enough that the resemblance was obvious.
From the control room one of the engineers suddenly laughed.
"Why e sound like Davido?"
Everyone chuckled.
Davido looked at Dayo with raised eyebrows.
They all felt shocked cause the level of control one had to have to be able to mimick a voice was high and Dayo was able to mimick Davido’s voice about 70 to 80% similarity.
"Guy."
Dayo smiled lightly.
"I’m just adjusting the rhythm."
Davido shook his head in amusement He felt confused but grateful for how Dayo could achieve this.
"Okay sing am again."
The beat restarted.
This time Davido followed the phrasing Dayo had just shown him.
The difference was immediate.
The words landed perfectly on the rhythm.
Inside the control room the producer pointed at the speakers excitedly.
"That one clean!"
Davido stepped out of the booth again while the engineer replayed the new take.
Everyone listened.
This version felt smooth.
Davido nodded slowly.
"Yeah. That one better."
They spent the next hour repeating the process, adjusting lines and testing melodies while Shina moved quietly around the room capturing everything on camera. He filmed the moment Dayo leaned over the console explaining a rhythm change and the moment Davido laughed when one of the takes sounded completely wrong.
At one point Davido tried an alternate hook and stopped halfway through.
"Nah. That one no dey sweet."
Dayo nodded.
"The previous one was stronger."
The producer agreed.
They went back to the earlier version and refined it again.
By the time evening began settling outside the studio windows they had recorded several sections of the song but not the entire track.
Davido stretched his arms and leaned back in his chair.
"We continue tomorrow."
The engineer saved the files while the beat faded from the speakers.
Shina lowered the camera slightly.
Even though the song was not finished yet, the energy in the room felt different. Everyone could tell the track had something special.
Over the next two weeks they returned to the studio multiple times.
Each session brought small improvements.
Some days they adjusted lyrics.
Other days they recorded new harmonies.
Sometimes they spent hours just listening to the beat and discussing tiny details that only musicians would notice.
Shina captured everything.
The footage slowly grew into hours of behind-the-scenes material showing the collaboration from the inside.
During one of the later sessions the song was nearly complete.
The beat played through the speakers while Davido stood beside the mixing desk listening carefully.
Dayo sat quietly in the chair beside him.
The hook played.
Davido nodded slowly.
"This one loud."
The producer smiled.
"We almost done."
Shina hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"Can I ask something?"
Everyone turned toward him.
"What?" Davido said.
Shina rubbed the back of his neck slightly.
"Can we post a small snippet?"
Davido raised an eyebrow.
"How small?"
"Just a few seconds. Nothing too much."
The producer looked uncertain.
Davido thought about it for a moment.
Then he shrugged.
"Post am."
Shina blinked.
"Me?"
Davido nodded.
"Yeah. You."
Shina understood immediately.
Davido could easily post it himself and it would reach millions instantly, but letting Shina share it would push the vlog even further.
Shina nodded.
"Alright e sure for you nah."
He quickly selected a short moment from the footage he had recorded earlier that day.
Seven seconds.
Just enough to hear part of the hook.
The clip showed Davido inside the booth while Dayo stood behind the glass listening.
Shina uploaded the clip.
The caption was simple.
"Something coming."
Within minutes the internet exploded again.
Comments flooded the post faster than Shina could read them.
"WHAT WAS THAT SOUND?"
"This song go scatter everywhere!"
"Drop the full version now!"
People replayed the snippet again and again trying to catch every word of the hook.
Fans began tagging their friends.
Memes appeared almost immediately.
Even other artists started reacting.
One popular singer commented under the video.
"This one go mad."
Another posted on his own page.
"Abeg release the full song."
Blogs quickly picked up the clip and reposted it.
Entertainment pages across Nigeria shared the snippet with headlines predicting that the collaboration would dominate charts once the song dropped.
Inside the studio Davido watched the reactions on his phone.
He laughed.
"See as people dey shout."
Dayo leaned over to glance at the screen.
The comments were still pouring in.
Shina refreshed the page again.
The view count had already crossed one million.
And it was still rising.
Davido shook his head in amusement.
"This internet no get patience."
The producer restarted the track inside the studio.
"Make we finish the last part."
They returned to work.
The final verse needed a few more adjustments before it could be recorded properly. Davido stepped back into the booth and ran through the lines again while Dayo listened from the control room.
This time the delivery felt stronger.
The rhythm matched perfectly with the beat.
When the take ended the producer replayed it through the speakers.
Everyone listened.
No one spoke for several seconds.
Davido leaned forward slightly.
"Play the hook again."
The producer rewound the track.
The hook filled the studio.
The beat carried a confident energy that felt ready for clubs, radio, and every street speaker across the country.
Davido nodded slowly.
"Yeah."
He looked toward Dayo.
"This one ready."
Dayo smiled faintly.
Shina kept filming quietly from the side of the room, realizing that the footage he was capturing would soon become part of one of the most anticipated releases in the country.
Outside the studio the internet was still buzzing with speculation about the snippet.
Fans were already debating the song before even hearing the full version.
Inside the studio the final version of the track played once more through the speakers.
And this time nobody in the room doubted that when the song finally dropped, the entire country would hear it.
"So how far with this album when is it dropping ?." Dayo asked Davido as the both sat down chatting.
"Uhm it’s almost done just a few editing and we would complete finally but as for the songs they are all ready." Davido said excited
Dayo smiled "So when is it coming out?"
"In a few weeks time." Davido said smiling
"You don’t mind if I listen to the songs right?." Dayo asked sipping his drinks.
Davido was bit shocked but nodded. "Sure nah that one nah smalls nah let me show you."
Dayo followed behind as for the reason for why he wanted to check the whole song he wanted to confirm something with the system and time would tell if it would work.
