Chapter 246: Dinner

The agent ended the call with Dayo and slowly lowered her phone.

A small smirk formed on her lips.

"So this is how it is," she muttered under her breath. "You came from America and think this is Hollywood."

She leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs calmly.

"This is Korea," she continued quietly. "We will show you how things really work here."

She picked up her phone again without hesitation and dialed another number.

The call connected almost immediately.

"Yes," a deep voice answered. "What is it?"

The agent straightened her posture instantly. "Good afternoon, sir."

"Hm," the man replied. "You sound confident. Something happened?"

"Yes, sir," she said smoothly. "I just spoke with Director Dayo."

There was a short pause.

"And?" the man asked.

"He asked for feedback," she continued. "About his offer to Minji."

"And what did you tell him?" the man asked.

"I told him that Min-ji declined," the agent said calmly.

Another pause followed.

"Good," the man finally said. "Make sure you hold your client properly."

"Yes, sir," she replied quickly.

"You are not allowed to let her make choices she will regret," the man continued. "Her actions can affect your future as well."

The words were calm, but the meaning behind them was sharp.

The agent understood immediately.

If Minji accepted Dayo’s offer, the consequences would not only fall on Minji alone.

They would fall on her too.

"Don’t worry, sir," the agent said confidently. "I will handle everything."

"Good," the man replied. "From the way things are going, you are on your way to the top. Do not make careless mistakes."

"Thank you very much, sir," she said respectfully.

The call ended.

The agent exhaled and smiled to herself.

Everything was going according to plan.

She was not doing this for loyalty. She was doing this to climb. To gain favor. To secure her position.

That was how the industry worked.

She stood up from her chair and walked toward the window, looking down at the city below.

"You offended the top five agencies," she muttered. "And you think you can survive without them?"

She shook her head slowly.

"No matter how talented you are, you cannot win alone."

"Hmph Let’s see how you work without the top five agencies." She smriked.

She picked up her phone again and scrolled until she found Minji’s name.

She called.

No answer.

She frowned slightly and called again.

Still no answer.

The agent clicked her tongue.

"Who are you talking to that you cannot answer my calls," she muttered.

A few minutes later, her phone rang.

She smiled when she saw the caller ID.

"Min-ji," she said cheerfully. "I was trying to reach you."

There was no warmth in Min-ji’s voice when she replied. "What do you want?"

The agent paused briefly, then continued as if nothing was wrong. "I wanted to update you. Director Dayo contacted me earlier."

Minji’s tone sharpened. "And?"

"I gave him your response," the agent said. "I told him no."

There was silence on the line.

"Why?" Min-ji finally asked.

"Because it is the safest option," the agent replied. "You did not even give him a chance to explain?"

"Did he talk to me?" Min-ji asked. "Did you ask me what I wanted?"

The agent sighed. "Don’t tell me you are considering his offer."

Min-ji did not respond immediately.

The agent continued, her voice firm. "He is going against the top five agencies MIN-JI!!!. You know what that means. We both know we cannot afford to be on the wrong side of those people."

"This is my career," Min-ji said coldly. "I should be the one making the choice."

The agent’s tone hardened slightly. "You should make the right choice."

"And what concern is it of yours?" Minji shot back. "What concern do you have with my career?"

The agent clenched her jaw.

"You are being emotional," she said. "I am protecting you."

"No," Minji replied. "You are protecting yourself."

The words hit their mark.

The agent fell silent.

"You already met the boss behind my back," Minji continued. "You already decided for me."

"That is not true," the agent said quickly.

"Enough," Minji interrupted. "We are done talking about this."

The call ended abruptly.

The agent stared at her phone in disbelief.

On the other end, Minji lowered her phone slowly, her hands shaking slightly.

She felt angry. Betrayed.

But more than that, she felt tired.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

She remembered the dinner.

She did not want to ruin the night by overthinking.

After calming herself, Min-ji stood up and began to prepare to meet Dayo.

She chose a simple blue gown, elegant but not flashy. She tied her hair neatly and applied light makeup.

She wanted to look composed.

When she arrived at the restaurant, she paused at the entrance.

It was a private space reserved for VIP guests.

She took a step inside and gasped softly.

Then she quickly regained her composure.

She spotted Dayo standing near the table.

He was dressed simply. Jeans. A clean shirt. His hair was braided neatly, framing his face in a way that highlighted his sharp features.

For a brief moment, Minji forgot why she was there.

"Damn," she thought silently.

She shook her head lightly, reminding herself to stay focused.

Dayo noticed her and smiled.

"Min-ji," he said warmly. "It is good to finally see you."

"Likewise," she replied, walking closer.

"You look amazing," Dayo said sincerely.

Minji felt her cheeks warm slightly, but she kept her expression calm. "Thank you."

"Please," Dayo said, pulling out a chair. "Have a seat."

She sat down, placing her bag beside her.

"So," Dayo said gently, "let us start simple. Let us just get to know each other."

Minji raised an eyebrow slightly. "Are you serious?"

He nodded. "After everything, the least I can do is listen to you."

She studied him for a moment.

Then she relaxed slightly.

"Alright," she said. "Let us talk."

And with that, the night truly began.
