Forsaken Priest of the Hero's Party-Chapter 30: The Wolf and the Princess
Chapter 30: The Wolf and the Princess
Just like any city, Larpentia had plenty of Inns and Lodgings.
Among those inns, the most famous one was the Brown Inn, operated by a man named Camel Brown.
It was a renowned establishment in the business, dating back to his great-grandfather.
A woman entered that inn. She had radiant golden hair that seemed like molten gold and beautiful eyes that resembled embedded emeralds.
She was a woman who would draw people’s gazes wherever she went.
“Welcome! Would you like a meal? Or would you like to stay the night?”
“I’ll have the best dish here. I couldn’t try it last time.”
“If I were to mention our inn’s specialty, it’s the grilled sparrow basted with a special sauce. The sweet yet harmonious flavor is just perfect.”
“Then I’ll have that, along with some other dishes of your recommendation. Also, bring me a glass of your best liquor.”
The princess placed a few silver coins on the table. The staff accepted the order with a broad smile.
This time, no one stopped her, and Mr. Camel Brown was too busy tending to the inn to pay any attention to the woman.
No one deduced that the leper from a few days ago was the same person as this woman now.
Soon, the liquor and food arrived, and the staff presented the food with a hospitable smile.
“Enjoy your meal!”
The princess slowly tore off the leg of the sparrow and took a bite.
She just chewed, savoring it. It was delicious. But not as delicious as she had expected.
She would never forget the taste of that potato soup she had that day, and she would never taste a delicacy comparable to it again.
Even if it was the most famous dish in this small town’s inn, to the princess, it was just somewhat decent.
‘Now that I’m actually eating it, it’s not as good as I thought.’
Of course, apart from the taste, she was hungry,
She ate with a grudge.
Her speed was so extraordinary, that it caught the attention of Mr. Camel Brown.
“Who is that customer?”
“I don’t know. I’m not sure where she came from, but she’s really beautiful, isn’t she?”
Camel and the employee fail to realize that the princess is the leper from a few days ago. So their gaze towards the princess was extremely favorable.
While the employee’s gaze contained an ulterior motive, Camel was just pleased. He was happy just to see someone enjoying his inn’s cuisine.
“See how she’s eating with such gusto? That’s a good sight. It’ll help promote the inn. Go to the kitchen and tell them to serve some donkey meat as a complimentary dish.”
“Huh? Boss. That expensive stuff?”
“Just do as I say.”
If the most famous dish at this inn was the grilled sparrow, the most expensive dish was the donkey dish.
Since donkeys are not livestock raised for meat, it’s rare for people to eat them, and the price is also high. Nevertheless, regular customers always order it because it tastes that good.
“What’s that? I didn’t order it.”
“Please try it. It’s our inn’s proudest top menu item. Have a taste for free, and just leave a review.”
“I’ll gratefully eat it.”
The princess accepted without declining.
In fact, she had no intention of seeking revenge on this establishment anyway, but this plate of donkey meat quelled even her last bit of anger. She gazed at the large chunk of meat with eyes full of desire and tore into it with a bite, ripping it apart.
There was a time when she didn’t know that being able to chew and eat meat properly was a privilege of the healthy.
Just being able to eat such delicious food without being driven out, humiliated, or having to worry about her body at this inn right now made her feel refreshed and life felt joyful.
She realized things one can only know after losing them, but it was a realization she never wanted to have again.
Ah, donkey meat was this delicious?
With each bite, she could feel the chewy texture of the meat, and the juices and sauce seemed to dance in her mouth.
The princess was not a carnivore like Roka, but until now, she has had to live like an herbivore against her will. She had to do so for the sake of her own body, and all the more so given her circumstances.
The taste of the chunk of meat she tasted again was enough to make her sell her soul.
She realized once more why humans cannot give up meat. Even deer sometimes catch and eat birds, so how much more so for humans? Her body was cheering at the taste of meat.
It does bother me that this is all thanks to the Saint’s money, but I’ll pay him back tenfold when I return to the capital.
Even if the national treasury was empty and the royal family had no money, she could still repay a few dozen silver coins no matter what.
Especially now that she could regain a position higher than before.
“I told you to get ready, and you...”
The princess’s expression, who was enjoying the gourmet food, crumpled. The wolf that had growled at her from their first meeting and was still growling now was reflected in the princess’s eyes.
They say even dogs don’t bother you when you’re eating, but this little thing really was a bitch.
“You’re wasting Master’s money too...”
But what came out of her mouth wasn’t nonsense but the truth, so she couldn’t say anything about it.
The princess wiped her mouth with a napkin and chuckled. Fighting with that little one would only make her the loser. That’s a child’s privilege. What could be more pathetic than an adult seriously fighting with a child? Even if she won, she’d be lucky not to get scolded.
“If you want to come and eat too, then eat. It’s too much for me to eat alone.”
“No thanks. I only eat what the Master gives me.”
The princess was at a loss for words seeing her bragging proudly.
It didn’t seem like something to boast about.
Come to think of it, that Saint doesn’t seem like the type to keep slaves.
There was no collar that a beastkin slave should be wearing, and she hadn’t seen any slave documents either. There were no signs of abuse. The wounds inflicted by the ranch owner or slave trader in the past had naturally healed and disappeared after being in the presence of the Candle.
If she was sticking close to the Saint and voluntarily acting like a slave, then this immature bitch must have really lost her mind.
Despite all that happened to her, Ardein was still human, and as such carried some flaws. So she still couldn’t see this beastkin child favorably.
She was just enduring it, recalling the old saying that even when beating a dog, you should do it while looking at its owner.
With a bitch like that clinging to him, in the end, it’s the Saint who will suffer.
If someone gets on your nerves, everything about them becomes hateful.
Even a single footprint they leave on the floor becomes annoying. Suddenly, Roka’s first encounter with her, which she had previously overlooked without any thought, came to mind.
Back then, that little one had definitely shouted confidently that she would throw away this ‘trash’.
Why was that beast of a bitch so hateful?
Thanks to her, the princess’s appetite was ruined. The princess, who had left a half-empty plate, got up from her seat.
“What? You’re ordering so much food and leaving it like this? Your greed is overflowing, but I guess your stomach isn’t that big? Didn’t you receive a proper home education that you shouldn’t waste food?”
Her fists trembled, but she endured it. She endured it while thinking of the Saint’s face.
Compared to the humiliations she had suffered, this was nothing. She gently stroked Roka’s head, pretending to be unfazed on the outside. She pretended not to see Roka’s eyes becoming fierce.
“Well, leaving some food for pets is just common courtesy, isn’t it?”
“P-Pet?! Are talking about me?!”
“Yep.”
The princess giggled.
As expected, a child is a child. To be provoked so easily by this.
The power of the sun and moon flashed in Roka’s two eyes, but the princess suppressed it with her own aura.
Despite having her potential awakened by the Sapling, Roka was still a child, while the Princess lived a much longer life, accruing more Karma and experience.
Thus, Roka’s power was mercilessly suppressed.
“I’m done talking, little one. Even if you wag your tail like an obedient dog, do you think I don’t know your true nature is a wolf? Before the Saint gets eaten by something like you, I have to help him as a fellow human.”
But inwardly, she was startled.
Even though she had used the Sapling of the Lineage, the level of magic power was not ordinary. Considering how old Roka was now, she didn’t know what level of monster this wolf would become when she grew up.
Perhaps she would even surpass the rumored hero, Yurinel Lakponcia.
It was all just empty speculation, but there was definitely a possibility.
“I don’t know why the Saint cherishes you so much and wants to raise you...”
The princess finally let go of the hand that was holding her head. The girl’s tail trembled with humiliation.
For Roka, the realization she was no match for the woman before her, was truly bitter.
“I’ll be watching. Until I’m convinced you won’t harm the Saint.”
“Rrrr!”
“Even if you act so fiercely, in the end, you’re just a barking dog. It seems you don’t have the courage to bite me.”
After a moment, Roka, who had been growling, glared at the princess with chilling eyes.
“I hate you.”
“Well, that’s delightful news.”
The princess laughed at this.
Her beautiful green eyes shot a glance at Roka.
“I hate you too, mutt.”
In front of its owner, it wags its tail and rubs its body, but that thing is a cunning wolf. A stupid mutt who doesn’t know her place.
Roka was overwhelmed by the princess’s momentum, but she snorted. Because there was only one person she truly feared.
The person who scolded her and the person she loved.
That was whom Roka was afraid of.
The rest didn’t matter to her at all.
*****Now, in this house that will soon no longer be mine, I lit candles on the candlestick and prayed for a moment.
The force of the brightly burning candles intensified for a moment, and the five flames above the five candles merged into one, shining as a ball of fire.
The Candles of Sanctuary have the potential to become the beacon of the sanctuary by my will. After all, the Lord bestowed this miracle along with such a possibility when He first gave it.
The Beacon of the Sanctuary.
It shall become a lighthouse in the darkness.
It shall deliver salvation beyond the horizon.
Wherever the beacon rises, one shall be able to go free and blessed.
“Because this place was that much to my liking.”
Beyond the burning flames, I saw my hometown.
It’s not an illusion created by longing. Because there is also a sanctuary beacon there.
By the Lord’s grace, the two beacons are connected to each other, allowing travel from here to there. However, since it consumes so much power, beacons cannot be installed just anywhere.
A beacon that has exhausted its power returns to being a candle,
But until then, it shall illuminate this entire city.
“Lord, please watch over my journey to the North Pole.”
Looking at the beacon, I merely prayed.
“I am here, and You, Lord, are also here. And countless nonbelievers are also with us. Although they do not serve You, Lord, please do not forsake them. Just watch over them, so that they may help each other and open up the future.”
May that holy fire become a flame that warms everyone’s hearts. And may the Lord’s grace reach everyone beyond just me.
“Whatever I may come to know on this journey, I shall not worry.”
For You are behind me,
And with Your great power, You protect me,
So everything will be alright.
Just as You will it,
