Forgotten Love: Mr. President, Mrs. Fordham Has Rejected You!-Chapter 161: The Reagent Failed; He Will Die of Heart Failure
Aiden Fordham felt the small woman in his arms trembling violently and sensed the constant drip of liquid from her face.
He raised his hand somewhat dazedly, reaching out to touch her cheek.
His fingertips encountered a patch of cool dampness.
"Stella, don’t cry."
His voice was soft, carrying a kind of bewildered reassurance.
"Don’t be sad, I’m alright. I always thought Keegan was noisy, but now... it’s quiet."
He slightly curled his lips, gently patting her back.
He tried hard to uphold his armor, maintaining the last shred of his dignity.
"Aiden Fordham, let me take you back to the room to rest."
She sniffled and spoke again, but he didn’t move or hear her.
She turned and led him slowly forward. His steps were small, tinged with a hint of fear of the unknown.
"Lift your leg, there’s a staircase." She habitually called out.
But he couldn’t hear!
He stepped forward and fell onto the stairs.
Due to the reflexive pulling force, she was dragged down with him, landing beside him.
He anxiously pulled her back into his arms, feeling her head, "Stella, did you get hurt? I’m sorry, I’m sorry."
At this moment, his face was filled with guilt.
"Aiden, I’m not hurt, not hurt."
She shook her head desperately, but her tears fell wildly.
Keegan ran in and quickly helped the two up, then the two of them supported Aiden Fordham, one on each side, moving forward.
This section of the staircase was short, yet exceptionally difficult.
Arriving at the room, she settled him onto the bed and then took out the latest formulated vial of reagent.
"Madam, was the reagent successfully made?" Keegan asked, full of surprise.
"It was tested, it’s not toxic." Her voice was calm, yet carried an indescribable fatigue.
She held up the vial, inspecting it against the light; the pale red liquid swayed before her eyes.
She added, "The toxicity weakened, which means the efficacy also diminished."
These words, like a bucket of cold water, poured over Keegan’s heart.
"Then President Fordham... will he be alright?" He asked worriedly, watching the man sitting by the bed.
"I don’t know, there’s no time, let him try it first."
She cautiously drew the reagent into a syringe and slowly pushed it into a small glass cup, a shallow layer of red liquid at the bottom.
She took the cup and walked to the bed’s edge, sitting down.
Taking a deep breath, she brought the glass to his lips, gently tilting it.
He moved his eyelids, seemingly aware, and cooperatively swallowed all the liquid in the cup.
Stella Grant put down the cup and reached out to help him remove his jacket, hoping to let him sleep more comfortably.
Suddenly, he reached out and caught her wrist.
The grip wasn’t strong but very persistent.
"Stella, don’t leave. Can you stay here tonight?" His voice was somewhat deep, with a hint of a plea.
After a pause, he added, "As long as you’re by my side, that’s enough."
Yes, he was scared.
He feared that he might leave in his sleep.
So, he only wanted her to stay by his side.
Stella Grant lightly patted his hand, continuing to help him undress.
After covering him with a thin blanket, she lay down beside him, fully clothed. The northern wind outside howled fiercely, rustling the leaves.
The room’s heating was turned up high, but the chill seemed capable of penetrating anything.
He suddenly turned over, facing her, and reached out an arm, drawing her into his embrace.
"Stella, if that day ever comes, don’t be sad."
His voice was soft and slow, as if explaining something.
Stella Grant felt her heart sink.
"Your paper airplane, I had someone retrieve it for you, it’s kept in Rookstone."
He rambled on, his voice growing lower and lower.
"Forgive me for the hurt I caused you in the past. It was all my fault."
His arm tightened, his chin resting against the top of her head, gently caressing it.
"Or maybe... don’t bury me..."
He murmured softly, as if talking to himself or speaking to her.
She said nothing, just reached out, intertwining her fingers with his, holding on tight, very tight.
She quietly accompanied him through this long and uncertain night.
Tomorrow.
It might bring new life, or it might bring demise.
At this moment, she was more anxious than anyone else...
...
On the other side, Vivi Sterling spent half the night tossing and turning in bed.
She slept uneasily, the whole person curled up in the quilt, rolling to the bed’s edge, forming a small ball, looking somewhat pitiful.
The bedroom door handle was gently pressed down, making almost no sound.
Zane Zimmerman’s tall figure appeared in the doorway, silently watching the small mound on the bed.
He stood for quite a while, then stepped in silently and stealthily.
He got on the bed, and the mattress sank slightly.
He reached out from behind, carefully picking the person about to fall off the bed back, gently embracing her against his chest.
Her body was soft, carrying the fresh scent after a bath.
Zane Zimmerman’s hands were large, with thin calluses, but at this moment, used a nearly reverent gesture, gently covering her flat belly.
There, a small life was quietly growing, bearing both of their heartbeats.
He bowed his head, a searing kiss falling onto her hair, as if treating a rare and precious treasure regained.
...
The next day, upon waking, Aiden Fordham realized he was still alive, though his world remained pitch black.
He didn’t move, just quietly embraced the darkness.
Until he heard her cautious, probing voice by his ear. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Aiden Fordham, can you hear my voice? Aiden."
He shouted excitedly, "Stella, I can hear your voice, I heard it."
"Really?" Stella Grant’s voice was filled with uncontrollable joy, "That’s great!"
She ran over, holding his hand, warm and soft.
"Lie down, don’t move around, the doctor will be here soon to run tests and checkups."
Two doctors quickly entered, conducting a series of meticulous examinations on him.
The room was filled only with the slight sounds from the instruments. About half an hour later, the checkup was complete.
The results showed his hearing, sense of smell, and pain sensitivity had returned, but his sight and taste were still absent.
Moreover...
Stella stepped out with the doctor, closing the door, desperately asking.
"Doctor, how is it?"
The doctor’s expression was very serious, "Madam, President Fordham’s poisoning has lasted too long, resulting in severe heart and lung function decline."
"If the virus can’t be eradicated entirely in one go, he might ultimately... die from heart failure."
Stella Grant’s heart sank, indeed, the Seven-color brocade’s dosage was too little to eradicate the virus.
She was silent for a moment, her voice somewhat dry, "If I keep suppressing the poison, how long can it... be delayed?"
"With the current situation, only about a week or so." The doctor revealed the harsh reality.
"His brain nerve damage is severe, his vision is already impaired, and next, he might... lose his memory."
"In short, you must be psychologically prepared."
The glimmer of hope that had just sparked within Stella Grant was instantly doused.
Inside the room, Aiden Fordham had somehow positioned himself by the door, the doctor’s words clearly reaching his ears.
He understood what she meant by "suppressing the poison."
It could only be with her blood... but he would never let her hurt again.
Stella pushed the door open, "thud," and the door frame lightly hit the ground.
She fainted, collapsing onto the wooden floor.
"Stella, Stella." Aiden Fordham anxiously shouted, quickly gathering her into his arms.
Unaware that when she would wake up, Aiden Fordham would be gone...
