Flirted Wrong, Married Right-Chapter 784: It’s Good to Go Back
Evelyn Clayton adjusted her expression and smiled softly.
"It’s good to go back. Have you decided when to leave? I can book the tickets for you and make time to see you off."
Iris Lockwood looked at Evelyn Clayton, hesitating as if she had something she couldn’t say.
Yara Reagan immediately chimed in, "I’ve already booked the tickets for the day after tomorrow. Just focus on your own things; I’ll be there."
Hearing this, Evelyn Clayton naturally didn’t say anything more. She nodded and agreed, "It’s just as well since I’m quite busy lately. The fashion design department was just established, and many things require my attention. I won’t be seeing you off then."
Yara Reagan nodded, reassuringly tapped Evelyn Clayton’s arm with a smile, "Good luck."
Evelyn Clayton didn’t stay long with Iris Lockwood before the latter tiredly fell asleep. Evelyn exchanged a look with Yara and the two left the hospital room, heading to the stairwell.
Yara Reagan took a pack of cigarettes from her pocket, opened it, and offered one to Evelyn Clayton.
Evelyn hesitated for a moment before accepting it.
She had quit smoking a long time ago, but today she felt an urge to smoke.
Yara leaned over to light her cigarette, her voice low, "Not angry, right?"
The hand tapping ash paused slightly, and Evelyn Clayton laughed, "What are you talking about?"
Yara looked directly at her, seemingly resigned, "We’re leaving early; you’re not upset, right?"
Evelyn intended to instinctively say no, but the words stopped in her mouth.
She and Yara never engaged in such insincere conversations.
Evelyn took a gentle drag of Marlboro, the smoke blurring her eyes, "It’s not upset, just guilty. Not even angry... if there is any, it’s at myself. It’s my failure to protect Iris."
Yara looked as if she understood, "I knew you’d overthink it."
Evelyn gave a bitter smile, "I really want you to stay a bit longer, but I’m also very afraid of something like this happening again."
As she spoke, Evelyn took out her phone, pulled up her conversation with Xiaolin, and showed it to Yara.
She told Yara about the mysterious call she received during the day and conveyed what Xiaolin had said to her.
"I don’t know how many more times something like this will happen. I just know I can’t accept it happening to Iris again. Once is enough to make me cautious."
Yara’s expression darkened slightly, and after a long pause, she returned the phone to Evelyn and said slowly, "I know you’re worried, and Iris knows too. That’s why we want to leave, to avoid causing you trouble. And of course, Iris can’t have anything happen to her."
Yara gazed deeply at Evelyn Clayton, "Same here. Because we have Aegis and Gem behind us. If the two of us fall, Aegis and Gem will be in jeopardy too."
Evelyn nodded, her voice very soft, "I understand. Don’t misunderstand, I could never blame you."
Saying this, Evelyn smiled, "I’m not a teenage girl who gets mad when my friends can’t stay with me."
Yara also smiled silently.
"Iris is really worried you’ll overthink. Even though I gave her psychological preparation for a long time, she’s still worried... you know, with you, Iris has always been a bit cautious."
Evelyn naturally understood.
Iris Lockwood’s caution was perhaps due to their past relationship or because Evelyn’s past was too fraught. In any case, Iris was very afraid of making her unhappy.
Evelyn showed a hint of a smile, her eyes a bit red.
"Anyway, I might have to trouble you... take good care of her."
