Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Change of Attitude

After Thea Tate left, Susan Saxon looked at Clara Sterling and asked, "What were you trying to say just now?"

Clara Sterling replied in a hurry, "Grandma, I prepared a birthday gift for you."

She motioned to the servant behind her to open the gift box and revealed the famous calligraphy and paintings she had bought at the auction, presenting them with both hands.

"Grandma, these are the artworks I acquired for you at the auction."

Susan Saxon opened the paintings and took a glance, the coldness in her eyes dissipated, and a genuine smile bloomed on her lips.

"Good, good, good." The old lady repeated the word ’good’ three times, indicating that she was truly delighted.

"These two paintings are exactly what I wanted; they were never put up for auction, you surely were lucky to run into them." The old lady said with a smile.

Clara Sterling felt a warmth in her heart, and a smile spread across her lips, "Yes, I was lucky enough to come across them."

Seeing this scene from just outside, Thea Tate unwillingly glanced back into the room. The door was ajar, and she clearly saw the expressions on Clara Sterling and Susan Saxon’s faces. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"That bitch, I knew she was up to some trick again." Thea Tate gritted her teeth, "Even the old hag sided with her, this bitch sure has skills!"

Inside the room, Clara Sterling wore a gentle, warm smile, her eyes shimmering brilliantly, "Grandma, I have another gift."

"Oh? Another one?" The old lady’s eyes revealed surprise.

Clara Sterling unfolded the peony embroidery she had painstakingly crafted over the days, "Grandma, take a look at this embroidery, what do you think?"

Clara’s arms spread wide, revealing a more than a meter-long peony artwork between her hands. The peonies, butterflies, and birds on the cloth were vividly lifelike and beautifully exquisite.

Upon seeing this embroidery, Susan Saxon’s dim eyes instantly brightened, and she even stood up excitedly, "Where did you buy this embroidery?"

Clara Sterling smiled gracefully, "I made it myself. Do you like it, Grandma?"

"You made it yourself?" The old lady was astonished, "You can do embroidery?"

Clara Sterling nodded with a smile, "Yes, I learned it from my mom."

"That’s amazing..." Susan Saxon marveled, "I never thought you could do embroidery, and so well at that..."

Sophie Sheffield stood behind the old lady and silently gave Clara Sterling a thumbs-up, her eyes full of joy, genuinely happy for her.

Clara Sterling returned the smile.

Susan Saxon leaned closer to carefully view the peony artwork, gently touching it, her eyes were overflowing with affection, "Girl, how long did it take you to embroider this?"

Clara Sterling: "Over a month."

"You’re so thoughtful." Susan Saxon lifted her head, her gaze at Clara Sterling was completely different from before, filled with love and joy, "Grandma really likes it."

The scene was visible to Thea Tate outside the room, which made her so angry she felt like she was about to explode.

What’s the matter with the old hag?

Didn’t she hate Clara Sterling?

Why does she seem to have changed her view on Clara Sterling?

"Could you please move aside? You’re blocking my way." A cold female voice sounded in her ear.

Thea Tate turned around and saw Rose Sheffield’s icy expression.

"Aunt..." Thea Tate replied with a smile.

"Stop right there." Rose Sheffield glared coldly at her, "Don’t call me that, we aren’t family."

After speaking, Rose Sheffield walked straight past her.

Just as Thea Tate was about to whisper some obscenities under her breath, she saw Carter Sheffield, Michelle Morgan, Seth Sheffield, and Victoria Yeats, two couples, approaching.

Thea Tate recalled fifteen minutes ago when Victoria Yeats was still smiling as she greeted her, so she called out with a smile to Carter Sheffield, Seth Sheffield, and the other couple, "Second Uncle, Second Aunt, Third Uncle, Third Aunt."

However, the previously friendly Victoria Yeats flashed a look of disgust in her eyes, only replying with a cold "Hmm" as she walked past her.

Michelle Morgan was even more blatant, knowing that Silas Sheffield had already severed ties with the Tate Family, offering no face to Thea Tate, coldly humming, "Who’s your Third Aunt?"

Then she cast a cold glance at her and walked straight past.

The two men treated her like air, not even bothering to acknowledge her.

The Sheffield Family’s attitude towards her was different before.

Could it be they found out about her scheme against Clara Sterling?

As the birthday banquet officially began, Thea Tate returned to her table, and Mrs. Tate asked her, "How did it go? Did you give the old lady her gift? What did she say?"

Thea Tate’s expression was stiff, and her face paled slightly, "It’s a forgery."

"What! How could that be?" Mrs. Tate was shocked, "You spent over eight million! How could it be a forgery?"

Thea Tate looked ashen, "I got scammed."

Mr. Tate Thomas Tate furrowed his brows, his face darker than a pot bottom, "I told you your ex-boyfriend was unreliable, who in their right mind works as a hacker?"

"So what do we do now? The paintings are fake, the old lady is surely furious, and your situation with Silas..." Mrs. Tate’s brow creased.

She still hoped her daughter would be with Silas Sheffield.

After all, the Sheffield Family is the top-tier aristocrat in Crestwood.

And Silas Sheffield, being the most promising grandson, had already taken over Sheffield Group, now not only the CEO of Sheffield Group but also holding control over the company, with over seventy percent of the Sheffield Family’s wealth resources in his hands.

It could be said that apart from Silas Sheffield, no other man was qualified to be her son-in-law.

Since Thea Tate was in high school, Mrs. Tate had instilled the idea of capturing Silas Sheffield.

Back then, though Silas Sheffield was not yet the CEO of Sheffield Group, he was of the same age as Thea Tate, studying at the same school, and their families were neighbors.

As the saying goes, proximity brings advantage, and they say a girl chasing a boy is just a thin barrier.

Mrs. Tate believed that as long as Thea Tate was willing to pursue Silas Sheffield, one day she would succeed.

Actually, without Mrs. Tate’s instigation, Thea Tate had already secretly admired Silas Sheffield.

Initially, it was a secret crush, lasting three years, and she only dared to confess after graduating high school.

After all, Silas Sheffield was too excellent, with countless girls pursuing him.

During the three years of high school, Thea Tate watched Silas Sheffield reject one pursuer after another.

Although Silas Sheffield was cold to others, barely wanting to talk, he treated her differently.

She thought Silas Sheffield was rejecting those girls because his heart belonged to her, Thea Tate.

After graduating high school, she mustered the courage to confess but was coldly turned away by Silas Sheffield and continued chasing him for four years in college.

The result remained unchanged.

"Tell the truth, why did Silas Sheffield fire you?" Mr. Tate’s voice brought Thea Tate’s mind back.

Thea Tate frowned impatiently, "Dad, asking this now serves no purpose."

"How can it not? You know Sheffield Family’s status in Crestwood, don’t you? Out of nowhere, Silas Sheffield fires you and treats us like that, isn’t it clear they’re severing ties with the Tate Family?" Thomas Tate’s tone was solemn, "Be honest now, what kind of idiotic thing did you do outside?"

Inside the room, the entire Sheffield Family was happily enjoying themselves.

When the second and third couple of the Sheffield Family entered, the old lady was still holding onto Clara Sterling’s peony embroidery, unable to part with it, "Take a look, Clara made this embroidery herself."
