Flash Marriage: The Billionaire Addicted to Her-Chapter 709
Hearing his forceful tone, Ye Yuning’s breathing hitched. "You...!"
"Ning’er, I couldn’t give you a proper resolution for what happened before, but for the rest of my life, I won’t let you suffer like that again."
Ye Yuning remained silent. At his words, her breath caught in her throat.
The past? she thought. Their past experiences were certainly not good memories. Especially his attitude regarding the child. And Turanxi...! Although they said the loss of the child was an accident, it was still his—Xiao Linye’s—negligence. No one knew the despair Ye Yuning had endured then, feeling her child slipping away from her body, bit by bit. That blood had felt like scalding water, relentlessly searing her heart. She had so desperately wanted to save her child, trying with all her might to rush out of the hotel room. Yet, in the end, because his men stopped her, she lost the chance to save her baby. And now, those memories rushed back with a vengeance!
Ye Yuning’s breathing grew increasingly constricted. She lifted her gaze to Xiao Linye, her eyes cold, and bit out four icy words: "I don’t need it!"
The rest of his life? She no longer believed him. The only one she believed in now was herself; she believed in relying only on herself. As for the path of marriage, she truly couldn’t bring herself to trust it anymore. Gui Xingli had said Xiao Linye was obligated to take care of her; it was his responsibility. Even if he took care of her for several lifetimes, he could never repay her brother. Yet, he had confirmed her identity just one month after their marriage. And even with the kindness her brother had shown him, he still made that choice! Divorce, then a high-profile announcement of his engagement to Qi Mulan. And the child...
Hearing Xiao Linye utter such words now, after all that had happened, Ye Yuning’s heart turned completely cold.
Xiao Linye froze. Hearing those four words from her, he stopped abruptly, lowering his gaze to meet Ye Yuning’s emotionless eyes.
"Ning’er, you..."
"Xiao Linye, we’re finished."
He was the one who had personally ended it. In life, one always has the right to choose, but one must also take responsibility for those choices, mustn’t they? Not everyone will wait around for you.
Although no new person had entered Ye Yuning’s world, she no longer had the inclination for it. This ordeal had cast a deep shadow over her heart. This kind of warmth, not entirely her own, a warmth that could inflict pain—she dared not desire it again.
Xiao Linye’s arms around her tightened. The determination and coldness in her eyes made him feel a suffocating pressure in his chest. His lips moved as if to say something, but no words came out. Finally, he took a deep breath, swallowing the tightness in his chest, and carried her downstairs without another word.
「In the dining room.」
Xiao Linye gently placed her on a dining chair, which was padded with a soft cushion. Then, he carefully ladled soup for her.
"You don’t have to do this," Ye Yuning said coldly.
Xiao Linye’s hand paused for a moment, but he continued to serve her the soup. Ye Yuning’s current attitude was colder than ever.
He knew he couldn’t rush things now; she was undoubtedly resentful.
Ye Yuning stared down at the soup in her bowl, not touching it.
"Eat first," Xiao Linye said.
"Seeing you, I lose my appetite!"
Her words made everyone present gasp. Kang Xuan instinctively glanced at Xiao Linye. A flicker of pain crossed Xiao Linye’s eyes.
Kang Xuan stepped forward. "Madam, what happened in Turanxi was all my fault. The bodyguards... they were all locals from Turanxi. It was my dereliction of duty!"
"Shut up," Ye Yuning snapped, her icy glare fixed on Kang Xuan.
Kang Xuan felt his breath catch under her gaze and didn’t dare utter another word. Clearly, it would have been better not to mention the bodyguards; bringing them up only fueled Ye Yuning’s anger.
She was pregnant; any accident could have happened. Xiao Linye had taken her to the hotel and left her alone in the room for so long.
"If you had returned to the hotel any later, the child and I might have both died."
Xiao Linye remained silent.
"Yes, it’s my fault. It’s all my fault," Kang Xuan said, repeatedly admitting his error. Indeed, it was all his fault! At the time, he simply hadn’t considered all the possibilities.
Ye Yuning closed her eyes, not wanting to say more. "What does it matter whose fault it was?" she said indifferently. "The child is gone, anyway..."
She didn’t finish her sentence, but the implication was clear. The loss of the child had caused a seismic shift in her relationship with Xiao Linye.
Hearing Ye Yuning’s apathetic tone, Kang Xuan glanced at Xiao Linye again. A wave of guilt washed over Kang Xuan. But, as Ye Yuning had said, what was the point of talking about it now? The child... was already gone.
"All of you, leave us," Xiao Linye said, waving his hand to dismiss them.
Kang Xuan nodded, turned, and led the servants out of the dining room.
