Chapter 516: Chapter 515: Silence Her Forever

Maxwell Peary didn’t even spare Sophia Moore a glance and turned to look at Nia Mitchell standing next to him.

"You weren’t scared, were you?" he asked, his expression serious, as if it were perfectly natural for him to say such a thing.

"No." Nia Mitchell shook her head. With Maxwell beside her, there was no way she could be bullied. So, when Sophia Moore had lunged at her, she hadn’t even tried to resist. The feeling of being protected by someone was truly heartwarming.

"Let’s go."

He took Nia’s hand and opened the passenger door.

Nia nodded and got in, smiling.

Sophia Moore stretched out her arm to prevent Maxwell from closing the door, her eyes bloodshot with anger.

"Maxwell, isn’t this going too far? What on earth do you see in this little tramp, Nia?"

She had been standing outside, guessing for over an hour, yet she had never imagined that the person Maxwell was having dinner with would be Nia Mitchell. This was ridiculous. Maxwell... having dinner with Nia? Even if she were to tell people, they probably wouldn’t believe her.

The moment the words "little tramp" slipped out of Sophia’s mouth, Maxwell’s expression turned exceedingly grim.

His brow twitched, and the air around them seemed to drop in temperature.

The cold wind blew against Sophia Moore, who was already drenched from the rain, and she shivered.

"Remember what you just said."

Leaving her with that ambiguous warning, Maxwell walked to the driver’s side of the car, got in, and drove off.

Sophia Moore remained standing there blankly, looking utterly ridiculous with the back of her clothes soiled from her fall.

In the car, Nia was looking down at her fingers.

"Uncle..."

Maxwell hadn’t said a word since they got in the car, and he wore a grim expression.

Despite the car’s heater being on, Nia still felt a chill run down her spine.

"Hmm?" Maxwell hummed in response, clearly not in a talkative mood.

"Um... do you think Sophia will spread rumors?" Nia asked in a low voice, her head still bowed.

"Are you scared?" Maxwell glanced at her, his voice tinged with acidity.

"No." Nia wasn’t bothered by whatever Sophia might say; it couldn’t hurt her, and she truly didn’t care.

However, what Maxwell wanted to know was if Nia would be scared if Sophia spread the news about them having dinner together. Didn’t she... not want others to know about their relationship? He, too, didn’t want others to know. But this feeling was strange, quite unsettling.

"As long as you’re not afraid, it’s fine. If you don’t want her to say anything, I can make her keep her mouth shut forever."

’Keep her mouth shut forever’?! 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Nia was startled, struggling to comprehend what those words could entail.

She quickly recalled all sorts of sensational TV dramas and movies she’d seen in the past.

’Keep her mouth shut forever’... didn’t that mean... death?

Oh no... It couldn’t be, it couldn’t be, it couldn’t be!

Nia shook her head rapidly, trying to banish those chaotic thoughts.

Maxwell was a businessman! This was an era of peace! Those TV dramas and movies were full of exaggerations. Killing was against the law; Uncle Peary couldn’t possibly kill someone! She must have misunderstood.

Little did Nia know what Maxwell was actually thinking.

Death is indeed an effective solution, but he has other ways to ensure Sophia Moore won’t reveal a single word.
