Fishing Livestream-Chapter 52 Preparation
52: Chapter 52 Preparation
52 -52 Preparation
A few minutes later, Yue Feng sent a message to Liu Fengnian on WeChat.
“I’ve read the announcement, Big Brother Liu, please sign me up, I want to go have fun with you guys!”
“ok!
Tomorrow morning I and a few others will go to the shop to find you, and we’ll get ready for the Black Pit!
This pit is open for red worms, so start preparing some worms in advance, we’ll need at least one pound per person, prepare five or six pounds for yourself!
Three pounds of Male Worm Seed, three pounds of female worms!
It will be too late to get them fresh the morning after next!”
“Okay, I’ll call to order the worms right now!”
After discussing the preparations, Yue Feng turned his attention to the internet.
He wasn’t about to go into this unprepared; without hands-on experience, the least he could do was to look for some strategies or tips online and learn in advance.
However, it was frustrating for Yue Feng that after searching high and low on the internet, he couldn’t find any mature video programs, only a few posts shared by netizens on some half-dead forums.
When Yue Feng first took over the tackle shop, he didn’t know much about fishing; you could say that he was a new recruit starting from scratch.
But Yue Feng wasn’t dull-witted.
After browsing through forum posts and adding his already basic grasp of Basic Fishing Skills, he quickly made inferences and gained a rough understanding of the upcoming commercial pond fishing experience.
As the saying goes, “the army moves after provisions are ready,” and fishing, like mobilizing troops, had similar aspects, where preparation was especially important.
If they were going to the Black Pit to fish for crucian carps, then the sub-lines used for wild fishing were not suitable.
For crucian carps weighing six to eight taels, a regular fishing field typically recommends using size six or seven Sleeve Hooks.
The size three or four Sleeve Hooks that Yue Feng used for wild fishing were too small and could easily result in losing fish.
Tying hooks was something Yue Feng had gotten pretty good at.
Based on his understanding and the advice of forum seniors, he quickly prepared several sets of sub-lines that might be needed.
Size five barbless golden sleeves.
0.4 size sub-line.
Folded at 60 centimeters.
Size six barbless golden sleeves, 0.6 size sub-line, folded at 60 centimeters.
Size seven barbless golden sleeves, 0.8 size sub-line, folded at 60 centimeters.
Combining different hook sizes with different sub-line sizes basically met the needs for typical Black Pit crucian carps.
Using barbless hooks made unhooking fish very convenient and saved time.
After preparing the sub-lines, the corresponding main lines needed to be ready too.
Yue Feng made new main lines in 0.8/1.0/1.2 three different sizes.
With the line assembly ready, the next aspect was the bait and Hand Food for fishing.
Farmed crucian carps have some significant habits different from wild crucian carps, with the biggest difference being their feeding capacity.
Farmed fish are adapted to being fed and have a larger appetite, so the bait required for fishing is also greater.
Unlike wild fishing, where a few handfuls of Rice Wine could last a whole day, such bait would hardly yield good fish in the Black Pit.
Since a large amount of bait is required, Yue Feng couldn’t just use Rice Wine; after a quick look around his own shelves, he selected a few commercially available baits that were commonly sold.
Musk Bottom Nest bait produced by Fishing King Brand,
Pure Grains·Sharp produced by North-South Angling Supplies.
These two were very affordable and effective bait options mainly containing ingredients like wheat germ, crushed maize, toasted bran, and other grain processing products, plus some Rice Wine, and the newly acquired premium version of Wild Fishing Companion.
This should suffice for the bait preparation.
With the bait and bait pits chosen, the last thing that needed to be prepared was the Hand Food, and this was where Yue Feng encountered difficulty.
The store did have quite a few crucian carp bait offerings, but Yue Feng had little experience using them, and he had absolutely no experience with fishing in Black Pit.
Asking Liu Fengnian and the others was not out of the question, but Yue Feng did not intend to do so.
As the owner of a fishing equipment store, Yue Feng naturally had his own standpoint.
It was not impossible to ask for advice from fellow anglers, but the questions he preferred to ask were more about advanced techniques and experience.
If he blindly asked for help with basic issues such as the characteristics of fishing baits, it was very easy to be looked down upon by others.
Imagine, as a store owner, if you’re not clear on the most basic properties of baits and you ask others for advice, what would others think of you?
As a fishing equipment store owner, losing authority among fellow anglers also meant losing credibility and pricing power, which was very detrimental to the business.
This matter had nothing to do with right or wrong; it was a matter of standpoint.
After some consideration, Yue Feng decided to give up.
Since he wasn’t sure about the commercial baits, he might as well stick to pure worms.
Among all the common baits used for fishing crucian carp, red worms and earthworms were definitely two of the top choices, and red worms were especially effective for fishing farmed crucian carp.
The only drawback was that red worms were slightly more expensive.
Let’s talk about red worms specifically: red worms, also known as bloodworms, are the larvae of midges and are found mostly in water with a high content of organic matter like smelly ditches and segments of rivers.
They are blood-red all over, widely distributed, and are an excellent natural bait for fish, with a very high nutritional value as fish feed.
There is no such thing as farming red worms.
All the red worms on the market are collected by workers who painstakingly wash and sort through them, which makes their price relatively high.
For example, in mid-April, the wholesale price for male worm seed of red worms is 28 yuan per half kilogram, and the price for the female worms is 24 yuan per half kilogram.
The price for the largest size male worms used for wild fishing is even higher, at about a hundred yuan per half kilogram year-round.
Male worm seed and female worms are not suitable for hooking on their own.
When used for fishing, they are usually mixed with commercial baits to make a sort of sandwich or used with something like Insect Glue to make lures.
Using red worms to prepare lures for fishing also has a small trick, which is a part of the knowledge of Basic Bait Opening.
The male worm seed has a harder skin but is smaller in size, whereas the female worms are larger but have softer bodies.
Mixing both male and female red worms together for bait preparation results in a red worm lure with a better state and effect.
After completing the basic preparations, Yue Feng was able to relax a bit.
He casually prepared some additional sublines.
Since a group of people was going fishing, it was better to prepare some hooks in advance to avoid last-minute chaos when customers needed something.
The next morning, Liu Fengnian, Wei Liang, and Ma Boqiang really did come to the store.
“I heard from Liu that you’re going to join us at Black Pit tomorrow?
Have you done it before?” Ma Boqiang greeted Yue Feng as soon as he entered the shop.
“No, I haven’t.
I’m just following to broaden my experience!” Wen Dong, who was tying hooks, scratched his head and answered truthfully.
Hearing Yue Feng say he had never done it, Ma Boqiang’s spirits dropped a bit, “What a waste.
I was hoping you would have some effective baits for Black Pit.
The Wild Fishing Companion set you had last time was really good.”
Yue Feng didn’t say he didn’t know anything, he just scratched his head, “I’ve also prepared a bit myself.
Let’s give it a try first.
Maybe the crucian carp nest I’ve put together won’t be too bad!”
Liu Fengnian glanced at Ma Boqiang and said, “Don’t listen to Qiangzi’s nonsense, Yue.
Black Pit is even more straightforward and brutal.
More than half the factors affecting the catch depend on your behind, getting a good fishing spot is stronger than anything!
Anyway, everyone is allowed to use red worms there.
It’s not like anyone uses imported worms from the United States.
The bait factor isn’t as big as he’s making it out to be!”
