First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 2087 - Mastery of Human Affairs Is Part of True Learning
Chapter 2087 - Mastery of Human Affairs Is Part of True Learning
When Su Yi and Bi Kongliu emerged from within that chaotic stretch of heaven and earth, Feng Wuji immediately rushed up to greet them.
“That’s... a first-level chance at divinity?” Feng Wuji’s eyes widened, and he stared intently at the silver bundle of light in Bi Kongliu’s hands. He made no attempt to conceal his greed.
With a first-level chance at divinity, Bi Kongliu would have no need to fear failing to become a Fortune Realm Greater God one day. He’d even have a chance at becoming a Master God!
Bi Kongliu sighed. “Brother Feng, tell me, am I dreaming?”
Whap!
Feng Wuji smacked him on the shoulder. Bi Kongliu gasped and grimaced.
“Did that hurt?” asked Feng Wuji.
“It hurt!”
“Then you aren’t dreaming,” sighed Feng Wuji. “You really got lucky this time. You got a first-level chance at divinity practically for free.”
“All of this is thanks to Fellow Dao-, no, to Senior Su!” said Bi Kongliu. When he thought back to what he’d just experienced, he couldn’t hide his reverence and awe, and he instinctively changed how he addressed Su Yi.
“...” Feng Wuji fell silent. Senior, huh? It seems Su Yi has completely won him over!
Feng Wuji suddenly took a deep breath, then solemnly bowed in greeting. “Senior Su, might this junior be so bold as to inquire when I can serve as a hostage and work on your behalf?”
“....” Su Yi didn’t even know what to say. Are you really that eager to become a hostage?
Bi Kongliu was at a loss for words, too. Still, he could roughly guess what Feng Wuji was thinking. My good fortune must have moved him. I bet he wants to leave a good impression on Sunior Su so that he might receive a chance at divinity as I did.
“Soon. Once my wounds have healed, we’ll leave. That will be your chance to take the stage,” said Su Yi. With that, he casually found an empty patch of ground, sat cross-legged, and took out a bunch of divine medicines.
Feng Wuji approached obsequiously, then slipped a jade bottle out of his pocket and proffered it with both hands. “Senior Su, these are the divine recovery medicine my ancestor prepared for me, the Nine Profundities Heaven-Stealing Pills. They’re incomparably wondrous. Please accept them!”
Nine Profundities Heaven-Stealing Pills!
Bi Kongliu’s eyes widened, and he stared, completely transfixed. These were the greatest recovery medicines the Nine Profundities Yao Court had to offer. The Rahu Yao Ancestor refined them personally. Rumor had it that beneath the Master God level, anyone who took one could recover instantaneously, even if they were on the brink of death!
Yet now, Feng Wuji was offering Su Yi a whole bottle of them. He’d really opened a vein this time!
Su Yi had Li Fuyou’s memories. He naturally knew how wondrous these pills were.
“If I’m not mistaken, the Rahu Yao Ancestor prepared those to save your life in an emergency. You can really bear to part with them?” asked Su Yi.
Feng Wuji didn’t even miss a beat. “No matter how precious the pills are, they’re just objects. If they’re useful to you, they’ll have served their purpose.”
Su Yi accepted the bottle, took out a single pill, and handed the rest back to Feng Wuji. “One pill is enough.”
Feng Wuji smiled. “Very well. This junior will hold onto them for you for now, but should the need arise, I’ll have them at the ready for you.”
Bi Kongliu was wide-eyed and tongue-tied. Feng Wuji’s brown-nosing skills were well-practiced indeed; he was like a master flatterer, and it all seemed perfectly natural.
Su Yi couldn’t help but snicker. This Feng Wuji guy really is quite the character.
Su Yi then disregarded Feng Wuji, sat cross-legged, and started cultivating.
Feng Wuji considerately moved further away, then stood in the distance. He even placed a sound-blocking formation over the area to prevent any noise from disrupting Su Yi’s tranquility.
Bi Kongliu couldn’t help but be impressed. I wouldn’t have guessed that an unparalleled divine son like him would have such impressive people skills!
Out loud, he couldn’t help but whisper, “Brother Feng, aren’t you worried that your clansmen and seniors will chastise you?”
“At this point, both you and I are effectively working on Senior Su’s behalf, so let me give it to you straight. Agree or disagree, just hear me out, okay?”
His gaze was instantly solemn. “I realized something a while back. If you achieve independence and find your own path, you can’t get hung up on your background or status.”
Bi Kongliu nodded. “I see.”
“No, you don't see,” said Feng Wuji. “It’s easy to speak of independence, but in truth, it requires great spirit, great will, and great determination. And when it comes to right and wrong, you have to form your own opinions instead of just following the majority or blindly obeying your seniors.”
Bi Kongliu’s heart shook. He suddenly realized that this was Feng Wuji explaining why he’d gone against his family and chosen to work with Su Yi despite the Nine Profundities Yao Court viewing him with enmity.
“The enmities of the older generation are their problem. If we want to rise to prominence, we have to find our own paths. We must learn our abilities and grasp our situations for ourselves,” said Feng Wuji. “That’s what I’m thinking. Alternatively, I could summarize it like this: The changes of heaven are not to be feared, the ways of the ancestors are not to be followed, and the opinions of other people are not to be heeded! Only then can you truly stand on your own!”
Bi Kongliu’s expression shifted, and he sank deep into thought.
Oftentimes, worldly affairs sounded simple. There was no way of knowing how difficult they really were until you tried something for yourself.
Knowing was one thing, putting it into practice was another. Feng Wuji’s explanation didn’t sound all that deep, but what divine son of the God Domain would dare defy their factions of origin and go against their seniors’ will? If they did, they’d be seen as treacherous and unfilial!
This was what made Feng Wuji different. He might have seemed deviant and unorthodox, but in truth, he had his own convictions, and he sought his own path!
After a while, Bi Kongliu sighed in admiration. “Now I see!”
Feng Wuji smiled. “Good, but don’t imitate me. Everything has its pros and cons. If the old-timers of the Bifang Divine Race learn that I led you to defy the clan, they’ll hate me to the bone. You just need to take matters into your own hands!”
Bi Kongliu nodded, but although he didn’t realize it, Feng Wuji’s noise-blocking formation only blocked ambient noise. Su Yi had heard every word. Feng Wuji’s words were intended for him, too.
A grasp of mundane affairs is genuine knowledge; an understanding of worldly wisdom is true learning.
What made Feng Wuji different was that despite the myriad Grand Daos in this world, he’d managed to find a unique path all his own.
......
A day later, Su Yi awakened from his meditation.
The Hidden Summit Realm was indeed wondrous. Unlike when he was at the Great Realm, the inside of his body was like a stretch of chaos. It gathered his foundations in the Grand Dao and cultivation base and connected them with his fleshly body and soul, unifying them completely.
Everything was drawn into the chaos and hidden from view. Thus, from the outside, he seemed no different from an ordinary mortal.
Su Yi believed that he was still only in the early stages, and that this realm had a lot of potential and mysteries yet to be excavated!
That meant that even though a considerable distance existed between him and achieving divinity, so long as he kept cultivating and tempering himself, his cultivation base and combat strength would keep growing stronger!
The only problem was that his Hidden Summit Realm cultivation base was like a bottomless pit. Cultivating required an enormous amount of resources. And treasures of the Great Realm were no longer the least bit useful to him!
Take now, for instance. A single day’s cultivation had exhausted most of the resources he’d acquired in this hidden realm.
But then, Su Yi was accustomed to this sort of thing, and he wasn’t overly concerned. He just needed to try his best to gather more resources in the near future.
That very day, Su Yi set off. He took Feng Wuji with him.
Bi Kongliu, however, remained behind. He’d already acquired a chance at divinity, so he planned to cultivate quietly here until he’d proven his Dao and achieved godhood!
......
The outside world.
“What if Su Yi never leaves that hidden realm? What will we do then? It’s not like we can wait forever!” Greater God Wen Xiao of the Nine Profundities Daoist Court frowned.
He was big-boned, with steely features and a massive halberd on his back. He had an extraordinarily fierce, martial bearing.
“Rest assured. The Path of the Ancient Gods will only remain open for a year. I refuse to believe that the heretic will turtle up in there forever,” Ren Beiyou of the Three Purities Daoist Court said expressionlessly.
More than ten Greater Gods had watched over the hidden realm for the past day and night. There were several dozen Mid-Rank Gods ready and waiting nearby, too.
It would have been no exaggeration to say that the moment Su Yi stuck out his head, they’d discover him, and there’d be nowhere left for him to run.
“I just wonder if the divine children are alive or dead,” sighed Bo Yun, the Greater God of the Divine Court of Providence. His brow was furrowed with lingering worry.
Every divine son had to overcome countless tests and trials before receiving their titles. They were the greatest elites of their clans and orthodoxies’ younger generations, and their positions were far beyond that of ordinary gods. If anything happened to them, it would be far too grievous a loss!
As the crowd conversed amongst themselves, they suddenly sensed an energy fluctuation emanating from that massive star.
The crowd’s spirits instantly soared.
“He’s coming out!” someone shouted in excitement.
The gods then watched as a tall, upright figure sauntered leisurely out of that massive, flaming star. He was dressed in blue, and he looked handsome and detached.
It was Su Yi! Who else could it have been?
Boom!
The Greater Gods were ready and waiting, and when they saw him, they attacked without a single wasted breath.
The quickest of them was Greater God Wen Xiao of the Nine Profundities Yao Court. He shifted through the air and drew his massive halberd mid-charge, then swung it with all his might.
A striking blood-red light exploded into being, ripping through the void and descending upon Su Yi. The halberd’s edge glinted, and its aura was terrifying beyond measure!
This was the full-force attack of an enraged Greater God. How could it possibly have been ordinary? But in the face of this attack, Su Yi simply raised his hand, and Feng Wuji appeared before him like a hovering meat shield.
“Divine son!?” Wen Xiao’s pupils constricted.
Kcch!!
That blood-red light came to an abrupt halt above Feng Wuji’s head. Another foot and it would have cleaved into him.
The close call made Feng Wuji gasp. His scalp went numb, and his expression shifted. He roared, “Martial Uncle Wen Xiao, have you gone blind, or are you trying to kill me!?”
Wen Xiao instantly felt flustered and awkward. Still, he inwardly sighed in relief. At least Feng Wuji was still alive and well. So long as he lived, there was hope of saving him. Had he been dead already, things would have been truly dire.
The other Greater Gods charging over from afar looked stricken. All of them halted mid-charge, not daring to attack.
It wasn't out of consideration for Feng Wuji; rather, one divine son after another appeared around Su Yi, each like a hovering meat shield. Together, they sealed the space around Su Yi off so tightly that not even the wind could pass through.
