Chapter 60: (Raorka) Old Gods

The ball was stuck high in the tree. Much, much higher than his hands could read. Raorka looked up in annoyance at the branch which had interrupted his match. He tried jumping up a couple of times, in a vain attempt to reach the ball, but soon was forced to give up.

"Mom!" He called out, his small face scrunched up in frustration. "I can’t reach my basketball."

He didn’t turn around, but from the noise of shuffling feet, he deduced his mom was coming.

"Yes, dear?" Zoe asked from behind him.

"I can’t reach the basketball." Raorka repeated, pointing up. Then he turned to look back at his mother.

But....this was strange. The woman standing behind him had no face. Instead, in place of the face was a tear, as if her face was on a piece of paper that had been torn.

Raorka screamed and stumbled backwards. But instead of falling on the ground, he seemed to be falling in a hole. A big, never-ending hole.....

.XX.

Raorka woke up screaming. He looked around wildly, trying to remember where he was, what had happened and trying to make sense of the debris around him.

The Mayor’s castle, the Demon of Lust, the energy ball....

That’s right! He had been fighting the Demon of Lust and in a moment which he assumed would lead to mutual destruction, he had repurposed the Demon’s energy ball to strike against the both of them. There had been an explosion.

He took stock of his surroundings once more. The castle had completely collapsed around him. He could see outside to the town of Temuril, and there was already commotion over there. He could see people getting out of their homes and pointing at the crumbled remains of the Mayor’s castle.

Around him were large stone pillars, broken off at the top in the explosion. There were large stone blocks scattered all around. Raorka was shocked that he was lucky enough to dodge every single one of the stone blocks that had cascaded from the collapsing top of the castle. He could see several guards and soldiers crushed underneath those massive stones.

In fact he seemed largely unharmed. Not only was he not hit by any of the stone blocks, but he also had not suffered in the explosion that had caused this destruction in the first place. Raorka had been right in the thick of it, in the epicenter of the Demon’s energy balls. How was it that he had escaped unscathed?

He looked down at himself. He still had his cape and his sword, this his Inito was still active. But his Inito was purely offensive, or at least the part of which that he had unlocked till now was purely offensive. He doubted it could protect him from an energy blast as strong as that explosion.

"That was not nice, boy." The dreaded voice floated down to him, and at once Raorka was up on his feet, his sword drawn.

Standing behind him, with nary a scratch on her, was the Demon of Lust.

.XX.

"How did you survive?" Raorka asked through gritted teeth.

"Hmm? You think a petty blast like that could kill me?" The Demon burst out laughing and then stopped abruptly, looking at him coldly.

"Tell me, how did you survive? A cockroach like you should have been toast from that energy."

Raorka didn’t respond, slowly backing away, building distance between the Demon and himself. He had to reformulate another plan, restrategize to tackle this monster.

"Eh, not interested in conversation huh?" The Demon smiled. "You seem to misunderstand something boy. You think you have a chance of beating me. Let alone beating me, you have no chance of putting a scratch on my body."

"We’ll see about that." Raorka said with more confidence than he was feeling.

The Demon laughed again, her voice cruel and malicious. "Oh dear. That’s what happens when you don’t teach the youngsters history."

"History?"

"Yes, history. It is clear you have no idea who we Demons actually are. Who I actually am."

"You are a monster who terrorizes people, who feeds off their misery and their malice."

"No. I am a God." The Demon straightened her face, a stern expression coming over it.

"I am a God." She repeated. "I have been alive before this planet existed. I have been alive before this universe existed. You believe I am a monster? You are correct, although you cannot comprehend the kind of monster I am. Why, you can’t even comprehend my true form. You think you are facing a real Demon? You think a Demon, the pinnacle of creation, of evolution, takes on a humanoid form? Tch tch tch, you have no idea. None of you have any idea. My true form would swallow this planet whole. Even in this form, I can easily kill every single person living on this planet with nary more than a thought.

You have messed with forces, with Gods older than your universe itself, boy. Don’t delude yourself with fantasies of beating them."

She’s lying.

Of course that was the only reasonable explanation. For to accept her words would be to accept her superiority. Raorka gulped. The things the Demon of Lust said about herself sounded an awful lot like an omnipotent and omniscient being, and if that was true then nothing Raorka could do would be of use. It would be like an ant trying to kill a elephant alone.

Of course she’s lying. There cannot be beings as powerful as that.

Raorka looked defiantly at the Demon’s smiling face. She stood there without making a move, almost as if she were challenging Raorka to attack her after what she had revealed.

Raorka gripped his sword. He could feel the sweat in his palm as he raised it above in an attacking stance. The Demon of Lust looked at him with bored eyes, not even bothering to make any gesture to defend or attack herself.

Raorka closed his eyes. He remembered the rage, the helplessness he felt inside the Mayor’s bedroom when he had masturbated over the picture of his mother. The Mayor and this Demon were linked together, their actions like a clownfish hiding behind a sea anemone. They were responsible for the torture and death of countless girls. It had to stop.

Even if one of them was an old God.

With a confident shout, Raorka charged forward, brandishing his sword. With each slash, a corresponding water wave erupted from his blade, rushing towards his adversary.

Before he could reach her however, a volley of rocks shot out from his left, moving like bullets towards the Demon. At first she was as taken aback as Raorka at this volley, but still she managed to easily sidestep the volley. This however distracted her from the first wave of water which struck her right on her chest, slicing it apart.

With a grunt of pain, the Demon of Lust stumbled backwards. Raorka saw that the wave had passed cleanly through her body, exposing her ribs. But in an instant, the skin around the wound healed itself, as did her armor over the bare skin. The Demon of Lust stood up, almost indifferent to the attack, and looked to her left from where the attack had come from.

Jareth stood there, his fingers extended. Each of his fingers had a barrel, like that of a gun, except shaped with earth. Behind him was Drisnen, already having activated his [[Spirit of the Tiger]].

"We came over as soon as the mansion collapsed." Jareth said gruffly, his eyes affixed to the Demon of Lust. "Is that...?"

"The Demon of Lust Lumina was talking about." Raorka said nodding.

Jareth’s mouth hardened. Drisnen jumped off from behind him and came beside Raorka, admiring his new form.

"Your Inito?"

Raorka nodded.

"Quite good." He said with an appreciative nod.

"Where is Lucerne?" Jareth asked.

"I don’t know. She wasn’t with me when I was captured." Raorka realized the urgency of the situation. If the mansion had collapsed, then Lucerne was also in danger of dying. He had no way of knowing where Rokar kept his prisoners, and if they were somewhere in the top section of the mansion, then they were almost surely annihilated.

Not necessarily. You survived.

Raorka bit his lip. Drisnen noticed the expression on his face and put a hand on his shoulder reassuringly.

"Don’t worry. Artemis, Maris and even Rowena are looking for her right now. Artemis sensed her magik somewhere in the underground area, so she is not dead yet."

"Thank you. Truly."

Drisnen smiled, and then then looked back at the Demon. "So what’s up with this monster? I have never seen regeneration that fast."

The Demon of Lust was sitting down, cross-legged and regarding the three of them with a bored gaze. On hearing her name, she immediately peeked up though.

"Oh well. Let me tell you again. You believe I am a monster? You are correct, although you cannot comprehend-"

"She is an old being, older than our universe." Raorka cut her off in the middle of her explanation. The Demon of Lust cast a murderous look at him.

Jareth walked up slowly and joined Drisnen and Raorka, facing off against the immortal monster on the other side.

The Demon regarded each of them coldly, and then smiled again, though her smile didn’t extend up to her eyes.

"Very well then. It seems there will be three lambs to slaughter today."
