Chapter 244: Sun island XIV

The final hallway glowed with a soft white-gold light. As the team stepped inside, the heat from the fire chamber faded, replaced by a calm and gentle warmth. The walls here were bright and clean, almost shining on their own.

Puddle blinked.

"Pretty... so shiny..."

Sophia looked around carefully.

"This place feels peaceful. But don’t relax too much. Light magic can be tricky."

Lyra nodded.

"Yeah... calm rooms usually mean something dangerous is hiding."

The hallway opened into a large circular arena. The floor was smooth white stone, marked with glowing golden lines that formed a massive sun symbol. The ceiling was high and bright, almost like a clear sky at noon.

Caria looked around.

"No lava, no ice. That’s already a win."

But then the room began to hum.

A pillar of white-gold light rose in the center, spinning slowly.

Inside it, something was taking shape—a figure.

A tall knight made of pure light, holding a long spear. Its eyes glowed like tiny suns.

Rhys stepped forward.

"The final guardian..."

The Light Knight lifted its spear and took a battle stance.

Aria narrowed her eyes.

"It’s fast. Be careful."

The knight vanished—

—and reappeared right in front of Rhys.

CLANG!

Rhys barely blocked the spear strike. The force pushed him back several steps.

Lyra rushed in, slashing at the knight, but her blades passed through as if hitting air.

Caria tried next, swinging her axe—

but the knight moved like a flash of light, dodging easily.

Sophia quickly analyzed it.

"It’s not solid all the time! You can only hit it when the light around its body dims."

Puddle pointed.

"Look! When glowing goes down, hit hit hit!"

Rhys nodded.

"Alright! Watch its glow—attack only when it fades!"

The knight attacked again, teleporting around the arena. Each strike created bright flashes that forced everyone to keep moving.

Aria used wind magic to push the flashes away.

"Keep its attention spread! Don’t bunch up!"

Lyra waited until the knight stopped glowing for a second.

"Now!"

She sliced its arm—this time, it worked. A crack of golden light appeared.

Caria charged in right after and slammed her axe down, making another crack.

Sophia fired a beam of soft light at the spear, weakening it.

Puddle blasted it with Water Jet, making the glow dim even more.

Rhys saw his chance.

"Everyone—hold it in place!"

Aria used wind to slow it.

Lyra and Caria blocked its escape paths.

Sophia weakened its shield.

Puddle kept dimming its glow.

Rhys rushed forward and struck the knight’s core with all his strength.

CRACK—SHATTER!

The light guardian burst into particles of gold and white that floated into the air like sparks. The room fell silent again.

In the center of the arena, where the pillar of light had been, now rested the last shard—white-gold and shining softly.

Rhys walked up and picked it up.

"That’s all three," he said with a small smile. "We’re done."

Puddle cheered.

"Shiny shard get! Trial finished!"

Aria nodded.

"Now we return to the main hall. The final mechanism should activate."

Lyra stretched.

"I’m so ready to leave this bright room."

Caria laughed.

"Come on. Let’s finish this temple."

With the final shard secured, the team headed back toward the main chamber—ready to unlock whatever came next.

The team stepped back into the main hall, the warm sunlight-like glow returning around them. The three pedestals stood waiting in the center.

Rhys approached them and carefully placed each shard into its matching slot:

Blue shard... CLICKRed shard... CLICKWhite-gold shard... CLICK

As soon as the last one settled into place, the entire floor lit up.

Golden lines spread across the hall like a giant circuit powering on. The air vibrated softly.

Sophia stepped back, eyes wide."It’s activating..."

The giant stone gate at the far end began to shine brighter and brighter. Sun symbols on its surface rotated slowly, like gears turning after a long time.

Then—

THOOM...!

The gate opened.

Behind it was a long staircase leading upward, glowing with the same white-gold light as the final trial. At the top, they could see a huge doorway shaped like a rising sun.

Aria spoke quietly."That must be the real entrance. The heart of the Sun Temple."

Caria grinned."About time. I want to see what’s behind all this work."

Lyra looked a bit uneasy."If there’s a boss, it’s going to be stronger than anything we fought so far."

Puddle floated above the group, raising her tiny hands."Boss time! Big boss! Maybe treasure too!"

Aqua gently tugged Rhys’s sleeve."It feels... warm, but not dangerous. Like a gentle light."

Rhys nodded."Whatever’s up there, we face it together."

He took the first step up the long staircase.

Sophia followed beside him."We should keep our guard up. Trials might not be over."

Lyra adjusted her blades."Good. I’m ready."

Caria cracked her knuckles."Let’s finish this temple and get something cool at the end."

Aria smiled softly."Stay close. We move as one."

Puddle floated happily behind them."Adventure continues!"

The ascent felt strangely peaceful.

Each step they took made the staircase glow faintly beneath their feet, as if acknowledging their presence. The air grew warmer—not hot, not suffocating—more like stepping into a sunrise.

Halfway up, a soft hum drifted through the hall.

Aria paused.

"...Hear that?"

Everyone stopped.

The hum became a melody—gentle, distant, like a lullaby sung by something ancient. The white-gold light pulsed in time with it.

Lyra’s fingers tightened on her hilts.

"Okay... that’s either good or very ominous."

Puddle bobbed up and down.

"Pretty song! Maybe the boss sings!"

Caria snorted.

"If the boss starts singing, I’m punching it."

Aqua giggled quietly.

Rhys exhaled slowly.

"No threats yet. But stay sharp."

They continued climbing.

As they neared the top, the rising-sun doorway grew massive—at least ten meters high, carved with layers of radiating light. The air shimmered like heat haze, but without the heat.

Sophia frowned."There’s... mana gathering behind this door."

A low chime rang out as Rhys approached. The doorway responded to him—sunlight-like energy flowing from the carvings and gathering in the center.

Then—

SHOOOOOOM—

A warm gust of light washed over them as the doorway slid open.

Everyone shielded their eyes, except Puddle, who stared directly into it like an excited kid.
