Chapter 236: Sun Island VI

The Scorchbeak’s wings glowed brighter, almost white from the heat. Fire built in its beak—too bright to look at.

Sophia’s eyes widened.

"That attack will wipe us out if we take it head-on!"

Caria tightened her grip on her axe.

"Then we won’t let it fire!"

Lyra nodded.

"We hit it before it finishes charging."

Rhys pointed forward.

"Right. We rush it together!"

Aqua swallowed hard but stepped up beside them.

"O-Okay... I’ll help from the back!"

Puddle floated higher, glowing with all three of her elements at once.

"Puddle help everyone!"

The Scorchbeak screeched loudly. A huge fireball formed at the center of its beak, ready to fire.

Rhys shouted,

"Move!"

The whole team sprinted forward.

Aria fired sharp wind blades to distract it. The monster shook its head but kept charging the attack.

Sophia cast a barrier to block some of the heat so the front line could get close.

Lyra dashed in first.

She jumped and slashed across its chest.

The hit landed, but the monster didn’t stop charging.

Caria followed, swinging her axe down with full strength.

The Scorchbeak staggered—just a little.

Its fireball kept growing.

"Dammit!" Lyra said.

"It won’t stop!"

Rhys ran under the creature, activated Water Blade, and slashed upward with all his power.

A burst of blue energy hit the Scorchbeak right in the chest.

For the first time... the monster’s flames flickered.

Aqua saw the opening and threw a big splash of water magic, even though her hands were shaking.

"Please work!!"

The water hit the beast’s wings. Steam exploded everywhere.

The Scorchbeak finally lost balance.

And that was the moment Puddle chose.

She floated high, tiny cheeks puffed, glowing bright.

"Abyssal Grasp!"

Dark tendrils shot from the ground and wrapped around the Scorchbeak’s wings, pulling them down.

The fireball broke apart.

The monster crashed into the sand, trapped.

Rhys yelled,

"Finish it!"

Lyra and Caria moved at the same time.

One fast slash—one heavy strike.

Both attacks hit the creature’s neck.

The Scorchbeak screeched one last time.

Then its whole body cracked with golden light.

A moment later... it exploded into glowing dust and vanished.

A system message appeared:

[ Trial 8 Complete ]

[ Trial Progress: 8 / 10 ]

Aqua fell backward, panting hard.

"I thought we were going to die..."

Aria wiped sweat from her forehead.

"That was... a lot."

Caria grinned, still hyped.

"Big fire chicken didn’t stand a chance!"

Lyra shook her head.

"You’re insane."

Sophia looked at the glowing plains ahead.

"Two more trials left..."

Rhys took a slow breath.

"And they’re probably going to be worse."

Puddle landed on his shoulder, proud and tired.

"Puddle did good?"

Rhys smiled a little.

"You did great."

Aqua nodded fast.

"Very, very great!"

They rested for a moment, recovered their stamina, and then started walking again.

The heat didn’t let up.

The ground ahead shimmered.

And Trials Nine and Ten were waiting.

"Let’s move," Rhys said.

And the team stepped forward into the next challenge.

The team walked forward, but something felt different now.

The heat stayed the same...

but the light changed.

It got sharper.

Brighter.

Almost like the air itself was glowing.

Aqua covered her eyes.

"Why is everything getting so bright...?! I can’t see!"

Sophia narrowed her eyes.

"This is light magic. Very strong light magic."

Aria pointed ahead.

"Look!"

A huge wall of light formed in front of them, stretching across the entire plain. It shimmered like a mirror—but the surface kept shifting, like liquid glass.

Then glowing shapes stepped out of it.

Humanoid figures made of pure light, holding long shining spears.

[ Lightguard Sentinels – Level ??? ]

[ Trial 9: Coordination Test ]

Lyra clicked her tongue.

"Great. Glowing soldiers."

Caria grinned.

"Doesn’t matter. We hit them until they stop moving."

Sophia shook her head.

"No. This trial isn’t about beating them. It’s about teamwork."

The Sentinels raised their spears together.

A single step—

and all of them moved at the exact same time.

Rhys frowned.

"They sync perfectly..."

Aria added,

"And if we attack randomly, we’ll get overwhelmed."

Aqua trembled.

"So what do we do?"

Rhys looked at each teammate.

"We fight in pairs. Stay linked. No one moves alone."

Everyone nodded.

The Sentinels charged.

Rhys and Puddle

Caria and Lyra

Sophia and Aria

Aqua alone—with Puddle’s protection bubble around her

The first wave hit.

Caria blocked a spear thrust while Lyra slashed the other side of the same Sentinel. Their attacks combined, breaking the light figure instantly.

Aria used wind magic to push another group back, and Sophia shot beams of magic through the gaps Aria created.

Rhys sliced one Sentinel’s arm off while Puddle used Shadow Tendrils to trip it.

Together, they finished it with a fast combo.

Aqua hid behind a glowing Light Shield from Puddle, shouting tips from the back:

"Left! Left! One is coming from the left!"

Lyra replied loudly,

"Then you attack it!"

Aqua squeaked,

"NO THANK YOU!"

More Sentinels stepped out of the wall of light.

Three sets.

All in perfect sync.

They moved faster this time.

Sophia shouted,

"They adapt! Stay in pairs!"

Caria laughed.

"Good! Let them come!"

But the Sentinels suddenly changed tactics.

They merged—

three of them combining into a larger one.

Its spear became a giant blade of light.

Rhys steadied himself.

"Bigger doesn’t mean stronger. We take it together!"

Everyone attacked at once.

Caria struck its legs.

Lyra stabbed its side.

Sophia froze its arm.

Aria blasted its back with wind.

Rhys slashed its chest with Water Blade.

Puddle fired Light Bullets straight through its core.

The giant Sentinel cracked—

—and shattered into hundreds of glowing pieces.

The wall of light faded.

[ Trial Progress: 9 / 10 ]

Aqua fell to her knees.

"I’m... I’m so done..."

Lyra wiped sweat from her forehead.

"That one was tough."

Caria shrugged.

"I had fun."

Sophia rolled her eyes.

"You always have fun when you shouldn’t."

Rhys looked ahead.

Only one more challenge remained.

Puddle floated beside him.

"Final trial soon?"

"Yeah," Rhys said quietly.

"And something tells me it won’t be small."

Aqua groaned.

"Please let it be small..."

They all took a short break.

Then Rhys stood up.

"Let’s finish this."

And they walked toward the final trial glowing at the center of the plains.
