Chapter 381: Chapter 254: Silver-Haired Female and Person in the Illusion

Practice makes perfect, after all. An Jin scanned her surroundings, then picked a direction she liked and started walking.

Just like last time, she ran into several "Mi Yins" and "Ling Hongs" along the way. Thanks to her previous experience, or perhaps because she had developed a resistance to this Illusion Realm, she easily saw through the impostors and eliminated them in a few moves.

She passed a low-lying thicket of ferns. The lush green leaves rustled slightly, and then a large white shadow shot out.

"AWOO~"

The sudden weight, like a cannonball, sent her staggering back two steps. Feeling the fluffy sensation in her arms, An Jin’s eyes widened in astonishment, her slender fingers curling slightly.

"Number Two?"

The big white fluffball nuzzled affectionately against her, then rested its pointy chin on her stomach. A pair of deep, lake-colored round eyes sparkled as they gazed up at her.

Accompanied by two more "awoos," one large and one small white shadow darted out from the thicket. It was Number One and Number Three. They let out a questioning "awoo" and looked up at her, seeming to study her for a moment before taking off and running toward her.

"AWOO~" The three fluffballs surrounded her, begging for cuddles just like they did at home. Their big, fluffy tails swept up dust from the ground.

’Something’s wrong.’ An Jin’s breathing grew heavy. She clenched her fists slightly, forcing herself to remain calm.

’Those three little troublemakers are thousands of miles away at home. How could they possibly be in the Illusion Realm?’

’It seems the Illusion Realm realized that phantoms of Mi Yin and Ling Hong no longer work on me. It’s changed tactics and is now using the three little ones to lure me in.’

"Weren’t you supposed to be good and stay at home? Why did you run out? Were you being naughty?" An Jin crouched down, reaching out to soothe the three excited, lively creatures. She smiled and flicked their little heads.

"Awoo?"

"Whine~"

The three of them looked at each other, seemingly unable to understand what she had said. They all tilted their heads at her, their tails still wagging happily behind them.

An Jin’s smile didn’t falter. "Then do you know the way out, my good boys?"

"AWOO!" Hearing this, the three of them perked up. Their previously drooping ears shot straight up.

There were two diverging paths right in front of them. Number One pawed at the ground excitedly, barking "ARF! ARF!" toward the path on the right, its tail wagging even more eagerly.

"But... I think the left path looks a little safer. Why don’t we go left? What do you guys think?" An Jin’s smile deepened. She looked down and pretended to be conflicted as she asked the three stunned and wilting fluffballs. However, she had already started walking down the path to the left.

Number One stood frozen on the spot in disbelief. "Awoo??" ’Oh no, it was the right! The right was the trap our master set up!’

Number Two and Number Three exchanged a glance. A sinister thoughtfulness that didn’t match their appearance flashed in their round eyes. They then took off after An Jin’s retreating figure. Number One shook its head and followed as well.

Then came another fork in the road.

This time, Number Two pointed to the right path. An Jin nodded. "Alright, the right path it is. Let’s go right!"

’Huh?’ Number Two was also dumbfounded. Its raised paw froze in midair like a wax figure. ’Why doesn’t this female play by the rules?’

The seemingly endless, gloomy jungle slowly receded from view as the bright moonlight kissed every inch of the land. Around a bend, a clear lake appeared, its surface reflecting the shimmering moon like a huge, enchanting sapphire.

The graceful figure of a silver-haired female was reflected in the lake, followed by three listless white fluffballs. As a breeze rustled through the forest, fine ripples spread across the water’s surface.

"Huh?" An Jin stopped in her tracks, stunned.

She stared gravely at the surface of the lake.

The beautiful, silver-haired girl in the lake smiled back at her.

The girl’s face was exquisitely beautiful, with a delicate nose and red lips. Her neck was long and pale, her figure graceful. Her long, silvery-white hair, like flowing moonlight, cascaded lazily over her lovely shoulder blades, curling slightly in the wind.

The long, slightly curled strands of silver hair framed her face, making it look even more delicate and small.

She seemed a little unhappy. Her silver-white lashes were lowered, and a hint of worry flashed in her sparkling purple eyes. Her crimson lips were slightly pouted, as if she were about to whine.

An Jin’s face fell. She took two steps back, and the reflection in the lake vanished from her sight.

’How did my hair turn silver?’

’This classic silver-hair-and-purple-eyes combo actually reminds me of Ze Sheng.’ 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

The temperature in the entire forest plummeted. Frost rapidly spread across the rough bark of the trees before her. An invisible pressure swept through the illusory space, and the very air seemed to tremble with fear.

"Wa... Wamiya?" A cold, clean fragrance filled her nose as she was suddenly pulled into a deep, confining embrace. A hard chin rested on top of her head.

"!!?" An Jin froze, her body stiff as a hamster. She could feel the man’s breath behind her, fast and ragged. The arms wrapped around her waist were squeezed so tightly they seemed on the verge of crushing her, and she could feel them trembling faintly.

’Is this his illusion? It feels too real.’

Ze Sheng couldn’t possibly describe what he was feeling right now. His only thought was to hold her. Even if she was just a phantom, he was terrified that if he let go, she would disappear again.

She was being held so tightly that her breathing grew difficult. "Um, can you let me go first..." Her slender fingers landed on his arm as she tried to pull back. She struggled to turn her head and look up. "Ze Sheng?"

’Speak of the devil.’ She had just been thinking about him, and the next second, he appeared.

’Too much of a coincidence, isn’t it?’

The Ze Sheng before her was staring at her intently with dark eyes, his expression full of disbelief. The corners of his eyes were tinged with red, and his hands gripping her shoulders were squeezed so hard his knuckles had turned white.

This display of someone on the verge of losing control was completely unlike the gentle, easygoing person she remembered.

"Were you also pulled into this Illusion Realm?" The two of them sized each other up simultaneously. An Jin was trying to determine if the Ze Sheng in front of her was real or fake.

The moment he appeared, the three fluffballs at her feet had vanished. Moreover, the emotions he was displaying were completely foreign to her. An Jin’s initial assessment was that the man before her was an impostor.

He didn’t speak. However, the out-of-control emotions in his eyes gradually subsided. After a long moment, he dejectedly released her and pursed his lips. "Yes. I was looking for you. The Plague Slave has someone else helping them. Several of us were pulled into this Illusion Realm."

"Then how do we get out?" An Jin rubbed her shoulder, which ached from his grip.

"Normally, an Illusion Realm of this level doesn’t have an exit. The only ways out are to break its core, or... kill its creator."

Ze Sheng’s gaze fell on her reddened shoulders, and he realized how reckless he had just been. He concealed the pang of distress in his eyes and said in a low, apologetic voice, "Just now, I mistook you for someone else. That’s why I..."

"It’s fine, I know." An Jin shook her head nonchalantly. "Here." She walked to the edge of the lake and gestured with her chin. "I just discovered it myself. That I look like this now. This is a first... Hiss, it’s so strange..."

Usually, she was the target of the phantoms’ schemes. She never expected that this time, she would become one of the phantoms herself.
