Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 349 - 232: Mate Mark + I Will Kill Him
Merfolk were breathtakingly beautiful by nature, and his body was a study in smooth, graceful lines. In the dark depths of the sea, his waterfall of blue hair caught what little light there was, shimmering faintly. Because they were so close, a few strands would occasionally drift across her face, tickling her slightly.
Even with his back to her, An Jin could see his elegant shoulder blades create a sensual curve with every movement. The deep arch of his lower back was smooth and flawless, and a slight sway of his narrow hips was enough to propel his long fishtail, letting him shoot forward hundreds of meters in an instant.
He was truly, breathtakingly beautiful.
"Oh, right, Ah Jin!" he suddenly exclaimed, turning to look at her with sparkling eyes. "Where is my mate mark?"
he asked, his voice a mixture of apprehension and anticipation.
He had been so euphoric moments ago that he could barely think straight. Now, with the cold seawater dousing that inner fire, Xi was mortified to realize he had completely forgotten something so important!
"Why don’t you guess?"
"No, I want to see," he said, turning over to sweep her into his arms. His fingertips immediately slipped under her clothes.
When he saw the Merfolk mark on her right breast, Xi was so happy he felt like he could swim three laps around the entire ocean. Though it wasn’t directly over her heart, it was very close. He was more than satisfied.
Many females’ first mates didn’t even earn a mark on their chests. This was especially true for their vast Mermaid race, where a female could have upwards of a hundred mates, with mate marks appearing in all sorts of bizarre places.
If the other Mermaids found out his mark was on his mate’s right breast—a sign of great favor—he would surely be met with a wave of unparalleled envy!
Xi hugged her and lowered his head to press a kiss to the mark, his eyes filled with adoration. "Ah Jin, I’m so, so happy I met you..." He nuzzled against her, leaving her clothes a rumpled mess once more.
"Okay, okay, I understand. I know," An Jin said, stroking his thick, flowing blue hair. His sentimentality was contagious, and she couldn’t help but add in a soft, emotional voice, "I’m very lucky to have met you too, Xi."
’If it hadn’t been for him, she might not have survived her first two days in the Beast World.’
’In that sense, he was her savior. That was why An Jin had been more than willing to keep him by her side from the very beginning, striving to give him a better life.’
When they reached their destination, the reek of blood was not as strong as before, but it was still enough to be sickening.
Bits of flesh and shattered bone were mixed in with the vast stretches of rubble. Red scales lay scattered in the crevices between the rocks, and a large clump of red, seaweed-like hair was tangled in a coral patch, drifting with the current.
It looked like the surrounding Sea Beasts had already finished dismembering the dead Mermaid.
An Jin let go of Xi’s hand and swam over. She bent down and picked up a red scale from a crevice, a piece of flesh still attached to its base.
"Look," she said. "This mark... it looks like it was branded on."
An Jin wiped the scale clean of blood and flesh, placed it in her palm, and held it out for him to see.
A black mark had been seared onto the surface of the otherwise solid-red scale.
’That mark looks familiar...’
Xi seemed to recall something. "It’s the Beast Slave King City!" he said in a grim voice.
"The Beast Slave King City?"
"Yes. Our tribe used to trade with the Beastmen from that Royal City, but that was a very long time ago. I was just a young fry back then, but I remember the pattern on their beast-hide kilts."
"The black pattern was so bizarre and unusual that it was hard to forget, so it’s stuck with me all this time."
He told her with certainty, "This is the one!"
"Why would people from that Royal City be after me?" She hadn’t done anything to provoke them, so why try to capture her?
"Ah Jin, there’s something... you already know this, of course, but I feel I must stress this..." He looked at her, his expression strained, and said, enunciating every word, "You... are a female who possesses a beast form. And you are very likely... the only one on the entire continent."
"You mean someone leaked the information?"
Xi nodded, his expression grim. Their worst fears had come to pass.
’But who could have leaked it?’
An Jin knew how special her identity was and that it could incite a war between various powers fighting to possess her, which was why she had always been so careful to hide it.
No one should know, aside from the handful of people around her whom she trusted implicitly.
’No... wait. There was someone else!’
’The little villain, and that strange, mysterious man in black who accompanied him.’
’The odds were high that they were the ones who had leaked her identity. And their motive wasn’t hard to guess.’
’That man in black likely wanted to use other powers to draw away her most powerful protectors, making it easier for him to seize her.’
’Her only worry now was just how much information that man in black had released.’
’He probably hadn’t announced it to the entire continent; otherwise, the whole Beastman Continent would have gone into a frenzy. With every power having its own ulterior motives, that kind of chaos would only hinder their plans.’
’After all this time, only one power—the Beast Slave King City—had managed to get this close. It seemed the man in black hadn’t leaked too much yet.’
At this thought, An Jin breathed a small sigh of relief. She clenched her fists as the seawater washed away the cold sweat that had formed on her palms.
’It was a stroke of luck in an otherwise unfortunate situation.’
She tucked the scale into a pouch at her waist and pulled the drawstring tight. "Let’s go home."
Realizing the gravity of the situation, she was no longer in the mood for sightseeing. She had him carry her as they left the area.
Halfway back, however, they came face to face with Mi Yin. He hadn’t brought a single soldier with him; he had come to this part of the sea to find her all by himself.
When he heard she’d been taken by a Merfolk, he was consumed by rage. Still reeling and weak, he had dragged himself into the sea alone, intending to take her back and personally slaughter the damned Merfolk he had always despised.
But Mi Yin never imagined their reunion would be like this.
His heavy gaze fell first on An Jin, then on Xi behind her, and finally on the Merfolk’s hand resting on her waist. In the water, his snake tail tensed, radiating pure killing intent.
"They said this Merfolk kidnapped you," Mi Yin said, his voice flat.
Never imagining this misunderstanding would arise, An Jin instinctively moved to shield Xi behind her. "No, that’s not it! I was taken by a red Mermaid, someone from another Royal City. Xi was the one who rescued me—Ah! What are you doing?!"
The black-and-red snake tail lashed out, cleverly bypassing An Jin to send Xi flying.
The merciless blow, laced with rage and killing intent, left Xi completely stunned. New injuries were piled atop old ones. He collapsed weakly to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
’He’d expected to get hit,’ Xi thought, ’but he never imagined this snake would be so ruthless!’
’If he hadn’t used his species’ natural agility to dodge just now, given the massive gap in their strength, that Snake Beast... he was trying to kill him with that strike.’
"What are you doing! I told you it wasn’t him! Xi was the one who saved me!" An Jin shouted, furious.
Mi Yin closed his eyes, then opened them again. He stared at her, his face unnervingly calm, but the fists clenched at his sides had gone white at the knuckles. "He knows what he did."
His cold fingers caressed her face.
"I warned him years ago. Don’t covet what you have no right to possess. Otherwise, I will kill him without the slightest hesitation."
