Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 343 - 226: United Front and Cheering Her Up
The room fell into dimness. The Luminous Pearls and Crystal Stones embedded in the walls cast a faint glow, resembling a brilliant river of stars.
Having completely eliminated all external factors that might disturb her rest, Ling Hong turned, left the room, and gently closed the door behind him.
Just as he stepped out, he came face-to-face with Mi Yin, who had just arrived.
This time, however, they didn’t look at each other with their usual disgust. With a common threat that needed to be urgently addressed, the tension between them had eased considerably.
"You’re saying the Demon Beasts are targeting Jin? They’re coming for her?" Ling Hong asked gravely.
Mi Yin nodded, then relayed some of the details An Jin had previously left out.
The two of them were stretched to their breaking point.
"Still, there’s no point in telling you all this. With your current strength, you’re no help at all," Mi Yin said, his lips curling into a merciless sneer.
Ling Hong didn’t reply. After a long silence, he finally said, "I broke through to the Ninth Rank a couple of days ago. If I can get my hands on one more Purple Crystal, I can become a King Beast."
A flicker of surprise crossed Mi Yin’s face, but he quickly masked it. ’To think this wolf actually broke through again in just a few short months.’
Although Ling Hong’s advancement speed still couldn’t compare to his own, Mi Yin was self-aware. His monstrous cultivation speed was thanks to the devouring ability of his King Beast bloodline—an ability fueled by the lives of dozens of Beastmen, as well as the life of his "so-called" older brother.
Ling Hong, on the other hand... had fought his way up, step by step, on his own merits. His only stroke of luck had been using that Mutated Crystal Stone to successfully cleanse his ordinary Wolf Beast bloodline.
In fact, years ago, when Mi Yin had snatched a female from the tribe, this Wolf Beast had battled him and severely wounded him while he was in a weakened state. Ever since, Mi Yin had been wary of him, always wanting to eliminate him for good.
"That’s more like it. Don’t make me look down on you," Mi Yin sneered. "You should understand that Jin’er has no need for a useless male by her side."
With that parting shot, he left.
Ling Hong silently watched Mi Yin depart. His gaze was lowered, his silver-white bangs obscuring the expression in his eyes as the hands at his sides unconsciously clenched into tight fists.
He abruptly looked up, a fire of determination burning in his eyes, his thin lips bitten white.
’I have to catch up to him!’
It had to be said that Mi Yin’s daily pressure and cold taunts had indeed ignited an unprecedented fighting spirit in Ling Hong.
An Jin slept late into the next morning. The first thing she did upon waking was wash up, then she followed the smell of food to the dining room to eat.
Hearing some noise from the room next door, her curiosity was piqued, and she pushed the door open to go inside.
"What are you doing?"
She saw Ling Hong packing.
He rummaged through a wooden chest and pulled out a pair of iron claws, polished to a bright sheen. Fastening them to his hands, he tested their sharpness with a few swipes through the air. "There’s a big hunt in a few days in an uncharted jungle no one has ever set foot in. I’m going to scout ahead." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
An Jin looked at him in surprise. ’It’s just a hunt. Does he need to be this tense and on guard? He even brought out his most prized iron weapon.’
’It’s probably just an excuse so I won’t worry.’
But she knew that with Ling Hong’s reserved personality, once he set his mind to something, no amount of persuasion could change it.
She walked over and wrapped her arms around his lean, powerful waist, pressing her cheek against the hard curve of his shoulder blade. Looking up, she said softly, "Be safe, and come back soon, okay?"
Being doted on by his beloved partner made a certain wolf’s heart soar.
He flexed his wrists, and his Adam’s apple bobbed. Turning, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulled her close, and leaned down to press a firm kiss onto her soft lips.
"I will protect you," he said, his voice thick with emotion.
"What?"
An Jin looked at him in confusion, blinking her eyes.
"It’s nothing. Just stay safe at home, and try not to leave the city for a while. I’ll be back as soon as I can." He leaned down to give her a quick peck on the lips, then reluctantly and slowly let her go.
Then, he took off the Wolf Tooth Necklace from around his neck. He removed the worn-out grass cord, leaving only a single wolf tooth, smooth with a rich patina, resting in his broad palm.
"This was my father’s tooth..." Ling Hong’s eyes filled with reminiscence, his voice low and slow, tinged with sorrow. "He was a very strong High Rank Beastman Warrior, but he was killed by Fierce Beasts during a hunt. This is all I have left of him."
Sadness welled up in An Jin’s heart.
"Jin’er, give me a few strands of your hair," he said with a soft chuckle. As his gaze fell upon her, the sadness vanished, replaced by a look of profound relief and joy.
An Jin bit her lip and plucked a few strands of hair for him, her scalp stinging a little.
"Are you going to use these to tie it?"
Her hair was long, black, and glossy. Twisting a few strands together formed a long, thin cord.
"Mhm." Ling Hong threaded the cord through the small hole at the top of the wolf tooth, then handed it to her, slightly lowering his tall, muscular frame.
An Jin took the new necklace and tied it around his neck, playfully finishing it with a bow where the ends met.
"There!"
she announced smugly, quite satisfied with her masterpiece.
The man touched the Wolf Tooth Necklace resting against his collarbone. His usually cold, resolute features softened with warmth. He looked down at the delicate, beautiful female before him and couldn’t resist pulling her into another embrace, resting his chin in the crook of her neck and deeply inhaling her scent.
"Jin’er, I will protect you, no matter what. Even if I die—"
An Jin’s eyes flew wide in alarm. She quickly covered his mouth. "W-what are you saying?!" She was half-amused, half-angry. "I’m perfectly fine, and so are you! Don’t you dare say such awful things!"
"I... I know..." He was at a loss. Awkward with words, he didn’t know how to whisper sweet nothings; he just wanted to show her his loyalty and love.
’If they truly encountered an insurmountable danger, he would shield her with his body, even in death.’
Ling Hong left the next morning, but not before making her breakfast.
An Jin ate the delicious breakfast, but she was sullen. "Did... did Ling Hong tell you where he was going?"
Mi Yin shot her a dark look and said flatly:
"No."
’Even if he had, I wouldn’t tell her. I finally managed to get that wolf out of the way, why would I let Jin’er keep thinking about him?’
"Alright, then." An Jin went back to her meal.
Xi came over and squeezed her shoulders, saying in a soft, gentle voice, "Ah Jin, don’t worry. That wolf isn’t an idiot. He wouldn’t just go get himself killed for no reason."
Trying to cheer her up, he racked his small brain and scrambled for a new topic:
"Didn’t you want to build... build that incredible ship?"
The Little Merfolk said excitedly, "When I came back last evening, I happened to pass by the workshop and took a peek inside. Guess what I saw!"
"You only gave the blueprints to the Beastmen at the workshop the day before yesterday, but by yesterday they had already built a part of it, and it’s really starting to take shape! Do you want to go have a look?"
