Chapter 341: Chapter 224: Tenderness + It’s Actually Them

"A new ability I gained after my promotion to King Beast." Mi Yin concealed his smugness, offering a remarkably humble and calm smile.

His snake tail swayed lazily on the ground.

"Aren’t you afraid of fire?"

"Mmm, I can still be burned by external fire," Mi Yin looked at her and explained. "But this fire is generated by the Beast Source Power within me. It won’t burn my own body, but it works just like a normal fire."

In fact, it was even more potent and searing.

And so, she could only watch as the freshly arranged firewood was instantly devoured by the Fire Snake and turned to charcoal.

An Jin, "..."

Mi Yin frowned as well, glancing at his own fingers. ’Did I use too much force?’

"Wait here. I’ll go find some more firewood. I’ll be back soon."

With that, he turned and left. Soon, he returned with a pile of freshly cut, damp wood.

He summoned his Fire Energy again. This time, the overpowering heat was neutralized by the moisture in the damp wood, and a small, flickering flame peeked out from the kindling.

Seeing that he was about to use his superpower again, An Jin quickly stopped him. "Whoa, whoa, don’t! This is enough. One more time and this whole pile will be gone."

An Jin went outside, found a large leaf, and used it to gently fan the flames. The added oxygen helped the weak little fire burn more strongly.

Mi Yin took the opportunity to go outside the cave and prepare their catch.

Years of domestic life had changed him. While he still occasionally ate raw meat and drank blood to get certain essential nutrients, he usually ate cooked food with her. As a result, he couldn’t be more skilled at preparing ingredients.

The wild boar, weighing several hundred pounds, was quickly reduced to chunks and slices of tender meat in his hands.

The cuts were marbled with fat, and the fresh, unoxidized red of the muscle fibers was still visible, making the meat look incredibly appetizing.

When Mi Yin brought the meat into the cave, wrapped in large leaves, An Jin took it and skewered the pieces on long branches to make large kebabs.

It was time for their familiar barbecue routine.

Fortunately, she had a habit of carrying seasonings with her. They were in the Beast Skin Bag tied at her left hip, which held two small ceramic jars.

One contained crushed salt, and the other held a special chili powder.

An Jin handed the first roasted leg directly to Mi Yin. "Here, go ahead and eat. I didn’t put any chili powder on this one. I made it especially for you."

"You haven’t eaten a thing the entire way. You must be starving."

’Snakes usually only need to eat once every half a month,’ Mi Yin thought. ’I’ve always been a bit of a glutton, so I eat about every seven or eight days.’ But when he heard her say, "I made it especially for you," he happily accepted the leg.

By the time they had both eaten their fill, it was already late. Outside, it was pitch-black, and they couldn’t see a thing.

It was now the end of the hot season, and the rainy season was approaching. In the Beast World, the temperature difference between day and night continued to grow, with nighttime temperatures dropping to a few degrees below freezing.

Although Mi Yin’s resistance to cold had increased along with his power, he still couldn’t defy his serpentine instinct to fear the bitter cold.

"HISS~" Having reverted to his true form, Mi Yin subconsciously drew closer to An Jin, drawn to the warmth she radiated.

His massive python body coiled around An Jin several times, forming a dense, gapless shield against the cold wind blowing in from the cave entrance. His round, sleek head naturally came to rest in her arms, lying there obediently.

Noticing she wasn’t holding him with both hands, the Red Snake lifted his head. He nudged her arm with a peculiar insistence, forcing her small, warm hands to rest firmly on a spot on his enormous python body, gently stroking him to sleep.

Leaning against a wall of flesh with a cushion of flesh beneath her, An Jin comfortably closed her eyes, her right hand idly stroking his scales in the direction they grew. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

She was startled to realize he had grown much thicker again. ’He must be about twenty meters long now, right?’ The coils piled up behind her were now higher than her head. ’He’s the perfect mattress for camping.’

Late in the night, sensing the steady breathing of the female in his embrace, the Red Snake opened his translucent inner eyelids. He adjusted his coils, tucking her in more securely, before finally drifting off to sleep.

’He’d finally gotten the chance he’d dreamed of to be alone with his beloved female. This trip wasn’t so bad after all.’

...

Although it hadn’t rained outside, dew condensed in the cool morning air dripped from cracks in the cave ceiling, landing on the ground with a soft DRIP, DRIP. The chirping of insects and the calls of birds rose and fell in a lively chorus.

Bright sunlight streamed through the mouth of the cave, shining on the massive python. The tightly coiled snake subconsciously loosened its grip, and An Jin opened her eyes, feeling a wave of stuffy heat.

She looked up at the cave entrance. Day had broken.

"Time to get up," she said, rubbing the head of the python in her arms.

No response.

’This snake was refusing to get out of bed again.’

An Jin expertly pinched his mouth shut. His forked tongue, caught halfway out, could neither extend nor retract. Finally, Mi Yin was jolted awake.

"HISS~"

The Red Snake stared at her, looking exceptionally sullen.

An Jin quickly let him go and gave him a placating good morning kiss. Then, she wriggled out from his coils. "Come on, get up! It’s already bright out. If we get an early start, we might even make it there tonight!"

The snake, who had a terrible temper in the morning, stared silently at the smiling female before him. "..." As his irritation slowly subsided, the twitching of his tail on the ground began to slow.

’If anyone else had dared to wake him, their body would be cold by now.’

The firewood in the cave had burned to embers. Without bothering to clean up, the two of them left.

Leaving the forest, they reached the main channel of the Aisala River. Judging by the terrain, they were likely in its middle or upper reaches.

The Great Soup River, near their city, was a tributary of the lower Aisala River.

All they had to do was follow the great river downstream, cross to the other side, and then rely on Mi Yin’s migratory memory to successfully return to their city.

On the vast, churning expanse of the river, countless Beastmen were attempting a crossing. They carried innumerable goods, their bodies clinging to thick logs that bucked and swayed in the current as if battered by a storm.

Many of the Beastmen accidentally capsized and fell into the river, pulled under along with the cargo on their backs, never to resurface.

Yet, the other Beastmen around them, focused only on crossing the river and transporting their goods, offered no assistance to those who fell in. They didn’t just watch coldly—they didn’t even spare them a glance.

An Jin gave the scene a passing glance, with no intention of getting involved. She was just about to turn and leave with Mi Yin when someone unexpectedly called out her name.

"Lord An Jin!" The man was panting, clearly overjoyed. "And... and Lord Mi Yin! I can’t believe I’m seeing you here!"

A few other Beastmen nearby chimed in, equally ecstatic.

’Huh?’ An Jin stopped and took a closer look. She realized these were Beastmen from their own city.

Mi Yin slipped into the water, transforming into his nearly twenty-meter-long snake form. "Just grab onto me. I can swim you across." He shot the other Beastmen a look of undisguised disdain, but ultimately couldn’t refuse An Jin’s pleas. Reluctantly, he carried her, the other Beastmen, and their cargo across the river.
