Chapter 332: Chapter 215: A Scheme Within a Scheme and the Gentle Mi Yin

What was even more unsettling was that the bond with her mate had been severed...

An Jin stood alone in an unfathomably deep forest.

An unknown mist shrouded the area, and everything around her was deathly quiet. Even the calls of birds and the chirping of insects had vanished without a trace, as if she were the only person left in the entire world.

Cold, deathly pale moonlight pierced through layers of disorienting mist, falling upon her body and into her eyes. An Jin looked up and saw that the moon had emerged from behind the dark clouds at some point.

The moons tonight were exceptionally round and large. Two huge full moons took up nearly a quarter of the ink-blue firmament, like a pair of perfectly round eyeballs that had suddenly opened in the night, filling one with an inexplicable sense of eeriness and dread.

The deathly pale moonlight illuminated the path ahead.

It was a long, narrow path through the woods, scattered with loose stones and dry twigs. It looked unremarkable.

An Jin hesitated for a moment. ’Should I stay here or press on?’

All around her, various shrubs and ancient trees formed thick, impenetrable walls on three sides. It seemed... the only option was the path in front of her.

Ultimately, she started walking, intending to follow the path for a while and see. ’If something feels wrong,’ she thought, ’I can always turn back.’

She hadn’t taken more than two steps when she heard the sound of a giant serpent slithering over dry leaves. A moment later, a cold, slender hand gripped her right wrist.

"Jin’er, I finally found you."

the man said anxiously.

"Mi..." An Jin turned to look, her eyes lighting up as her gaze fell upon the handsome, black-haired, red-eyed man before her.

Before she could finish, Mi Yin pulled her into his embrace, then let her go and sighed with lingering fear. "I’ve been looking for you for so long. I finally found you."

"What just happened? Why did you suddenly disappear?"

"I suddenly disappeared?" Mi Yin looked confused for a moment, then frowned deeply. "No, from my perspective, you were the one who suddenly vanished... We must have been pulled into an Illusion Realm."

"According to my inherited memories, some special races of Beastmen can indeed create Illusion Realms. It must be the person in black we’re looking for." His voice grew slightly cold. His gaze fell upon her as he continued, "Never mind that for now. The most urgent task is to get you out of here."

"Do you know how to get out?"

He gave a soft hum of assent and said no more, simply pulling her along by the hand.

As if rushing toward something urgent, Mi Yin looked anxious and quickened his pace. He didn’t even seem to intend to let her rest after An Jin said she was tired.

The two round moons, as dazzling as suns, gradually rose to the zenith directly above them.

"Ah—" Running too fast and not watching where she was going, An Jin tripped on a stone and tumbled to the ground.

"You’re not hurt, are you?" Mi Yin quickly pulled her up, brushed the dust off her clothes, and straightened her hair for her.

An Jin shook her head. She could feel a dull pain in her knee; ’It’s probably swollen,’ she thought. ’I’ll have to treat the bruise when we get back.’

"My necklace fell off..." After taking only a few more steps, she touched her bare neck and suddenly turned to go back and find it.

Mi Yin glanced anxiously at the path ahead, then frowned at her. His voice was cool. "Forget about the necklace. It’s just made of a few worthless stones. If you like it that much, I’ll make you an identical one when we get back."

"..." An Jin’s steps faltered. Her expression flickered, and she struggled to keep her voice calm. "No. I want this one. I love this one. You spent such a long time making it for me with your own hands."

With that, she picked up the necklace, put it back around her neck, and tied the cord tightly.

Mi Yin came up behind her, reaching out to pull her. As he did, she saw his shadow stretching out on the ground in front of her.

It was fainter than a normal person’s, hazy and indistinct, like... a phantom’s shadow?!

An Jin violently shook off his hand, horrified. She cursed viciously, "Get lost, you impostor!"

Taking two steps back, she lifted her head and stared warily at the man, whose expression had suddenly turned grim. Her own expression was icy. "This is made from his Essence Blood. I treasure it. It represents his love for me. The real Mi Yin would never be so nonchalant about it!"

The words were barely out of her mouth when she thrust out a hand, unleashing a blast of spiritual power. It transformed into countless invisible blades of wind that shot straight for the fake Mi Yin’s heart.

"To think you’d actually see through me!" The man dodged her attacks clumsily, but he couldn’t withstand the onslaught from the multitude of wind blades. His body was soon covered in countless wounds.

His expression became ferocious and terrifying. His once-handsome face contorted into a horrifying visage like that of a Demon Beast. Sharp fangs jutted from his mouth, reaching past his chin, and his hands, now covered in black fur, slashed viciously at her face.

At that critical moment, another, more domineering and sinister aura suddenly swept in. A fierce wind abruptly tore through the tranquil forest.

Immediately after, the fake Mi Yin was sent flying into the distance, and An Jin fell into a cold, familiar embrace. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"...Mi Yin?" She opened her eyes, her body stiff as she called out his name uncertainly.

Her eyes were still filled with wariness and scrutiny.

Mi Yin let her go and tapped the tip of her pert nose, chuckling. "You’re not suspecting me, are you?"

He pointed to the necklace at her throat. "I gave this to you a while ago. The red Crystal Stone in the very center was made from my only drop of heart’s blood, and the cord is woven from my hair."

Hearing him describe it item by item, with every detail being perfectly accurate, she thought that he certainly seemed much more real than the impostor from a moment ago.

An Jin lowered her guard a little. Looking at the once-again peaceful surroundings, she couldn’t help but grasp his cold, slender hand and mutter, "What in the world just happened? How did you suddenly disappear, and then I took two steps and ran into an impostor."

"I never left you. I was right beside you the entire time. But just now, you suddenly walked away from me, heading straight forward in a daze, as if... you’d lost your own consciousness."

"And then?" An Jin asked curiously.

Recalling the scene from moments before, Mi Yin frowned, his voice thoughtful. "I tried to follow, but I couldn’t keep up. By the time I rounded a bend in the path, you were gone, and the scenery around me had changed."

He pointed ahead. "Have you noticed? This isn’t the same forest we entered earlier."

"My guess is that of the two people in black we encountered, one can control minds, and the other can manipulate space."

The moons once again hid behind the clouds. The world was suddenly plunged into darkness, so deep you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.

"Jin’er, how about I carry you?" Mi Yin bent down slightly and opened his arms to her, his voice gentle and considerate. "It’s so dark, you surely can’t see anything. Come on, I’ll carry you. We’ll be able to move faster that way, too."

An Jin gave him a strange look. "..." After a few seconds of silence, her lips curved into a smile and her eyes crinkled. "Alright. You’re so good to me, Mi Yin. How come I never realized you were this gentle before?"

"Silly girl, you’re my mate. Of course I have to be good to you." His expression was gentle and loving, and his blood-red eyes swirled like intoxicating spring wine, making one want to drown in that ocean of tenderness.
