Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.-Chapter 69: Strong runt, weak beta wolf.
Leilani.
I woke up to a searing ache at the back of my skull and to find scratch marks all over my walls and bed. I sat up slowly, groaning my eyes widening when I realized the extent of the damage to my room.
But surprisingly, I couldn’t remember coming here.
I could remember storming out of Jay’s car under the pouring rain but nothing after that. So when the hell did I arrive at my room? And how are there scratch marks on my bed and walls?
I looked down just then to see my expensive dress torn in weird angles. I still had it on, but now it looked more like rags than cloth.
I sighed. "What the fuck?"
I however, managed to take a shower and change into something decent. I was hungry too so I decided to go make something for breakfast— no lunch, it was already past twelve.
I trudged down to my kitchen but by the time I arrived downstairs, there was someone pounding on my door. I frowned, didn’t even bother to check the intercom and pushed the door open just to find my parents and brother standing there with their usual looks of disdain plastered across their faces.
Oh, not again... Not today!
I rolled my eyes. "What?"
"Chalice told us about last night."
’Of course she did.’ I thought to myself, but discarding that thought, I folded my arms across my chest, shut my door behind me, leaned against it and drawled; "What did she tell you about last night? And how’s it any of my business that she hates being called Candy?"
"Candy?" Gavin scoffed, laughing derisively. "How’s that even a problem?"
"Well, I should be the one asking you!" I clapped back. "Jay only called her Candy so I wonder why she’s been going around telling everyone that we bullied her."
Now, the stupefied looks on their faces was priceless. Father scowled. Mother looked like a brick had been dropped on her head, and Gavin looked at me like I was crazy.
A strange kind of silence settled between us, one that was soon disrupted when Gavin asked; "Who’s Jay?"
"Alpha Jarek Frostclaw." I answered dryly. "Now, can I go back to what I was doing?"
"So you and Alpha Frostclaw bullied Chalice last night?" He asked again, his usual malice slipping back into his voice. He turned to father and drawled; "...and Chalice didn’t tell us about it?"
I frowned. "So what the fuck did she tell you guys if it’s not that I bullied her?"
Oh goddess, I hate hate this family. I hated how dumb everyone was— and right now, including me.
"So you’re admitting to bullying her?!" Gavin growled, and this time, I couldn’t fight the urge to roll my eyes.
I snickered. "Well, maybe you should go ask her. Now get off my property."
"You were not satisfied with making her lose her baby with the Alphas. Now, you’ve gone as far as bullying her too? That and the fact that you could shamelessly do it at an event?!"
The more the words slipped out of his mouth, the angrier I became. I fisted my hands so tight that my nails dug into my palm. But I said nothing.
I simply stood there, watching them with just as much anger as they directed at me, while something akin to rage coiled itself tight at the base of my stomach.
"You’re a fucking wretched bitch! A disgrace to the Blackthorne family! And I curse the day that you were—"
"Gavin, enough!" Father growled, immediately silencing his rabid dog.
We all turned to look at him then, but I didn’t miss how darkly he glared at me now. To him, I was nothing but filth, and for as long as I lived, even though I achieved even impossible things, I’ll always be filth to him. I blinked my tears away.
"She told us that you are now the leading engineer at Frostclaw. Inc. Is that true?" He drawled in his deep baritone voice. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
And that had me turning to face him in surprise. "And what’s that got to do with anything?"
"Are you the leading engineer at Frostclaw. Inc.?" Gavin yelled, and I couldn’t help but be stunned at their behavior.
Did they find out that I’d made something good out of my life and want me back because of it?
Are they here to apologize to me for everything they’ve done?
Is this like some sort of reunion? One that’s only possible because I’ve made something out of my life?
I muttered slowly; "Yes."
"So you always held that much power in Frostclaw. Inc. and your sister couldn’t get in?" Mother snarled, making my heart drop.
What the hell?
"We begged you Leilani! We begged you to chirp in a word to Frostclaw in order to accept your sister, not knowing that you held enough power to do it yourself. And what did you do? Nothing!"
"I wouldn’t even be surprised that she intentionally sabotaged Chalice’s chances of getting the job!" Gavin shot back.
And I... all I could do was stare at them in shock.
Shock because after everything, this was all they cared about.
After everything, all they saw me as was nothing more than a pawn to be played with. The child that exists only for her sister’s benefit.
My rage exploded in my chest. I seethed; "So y’all came all the way from your house to mine to tell me this? Not to congratulate me but to spite me for not paving the way for your spoiled daughter?"
Father and mother looked visibly hurt. Gavin snarled; "If anyone’s spoiled, it’s you Leilani!"
"Yeah right, because it’s me that has the world bending to my whim. Because I’m the reason you’re here shaking in your boots because I wasn’t accepted into a company for a job I wasn’t fit for!"
Gavin rolled his eyes. "Oh, spare me, you hypocrite! You think because you work in an ordinary company like Frostclaw. Inc. you’re now better than Chalice?"
"If I must say so myself, then yes. If you think otherwise, then try getting her into the so-called ordinary Frostclaw. Inc.!"
He froze. Everyone went silent.
But deciding that I’ve had enough, I pushed my door open, but before I could step into my house, my father’s voice rang out; "You’re not about to walk out on me, are you?"
"Oh, that’s what I’m about to do, daddy Blackthorne. In fact, you would have to watch me."
"Leilani!" Mother growled but I rolled my eyes. "You don’t dare walk out on us, we’re your parents!"
"Didn’t you guys get the court ordered emancipation documents four years ago? You’re not my family. You never were. Never will be!"
At that, Gavin lost it. He growled so loud, a shiver ran through me, the veins on his neck popping as he screamed; "You wench!"
I vaguely saw him lift his hands at me and immediately, I knew what was coming next. However, just as his palm brushed against the surface of my face, something in me snapped. I reached up, grabbed his wrist and ducked whilst throwing him over my shoulders.
A round of gasps sounded around me just as he hit the floor with a loud thud; And it wasn’t until that moment that I realized what I had just done.
I had thrown Gavin, a strong beta wolf over my shoulder effortlessly. I had slammed him against the floor and now, there was blood pouring out from a corner of his lips.
My eyes widened slowly as I peeped at my hands, but before my parents could shake themselves out of their shock, and begin to berate me for what I’d just done, I rushed into the house and slammed the door shut.
My breath came in short unsteady gasps. Even my limbs wobbled as I stared pointedly at my hands and leaned against my door with my heart beating wildly against my chest.
"I am weak. I am weak." I chanted to myself. "I was my pack’s runt and they all hate me so much for being weak..." I said slowly. But no matter how much I tried to convince myself, the image of Gavin against the floor wouldn’t leave my head.
And with it came another image, one I’d almost forgotten: of me ripping out Jarek’s car door.
What the hell?
