Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.-Chapter 345: A favor.
Caelum.
He thinks I am joking and I do not blame him. Even Zevran, the more levelheaded one has refused to speak to me about my plan to be crucified just like Ragnar had been, and I couldn’t say that I do not understand the reason behind that.
They all thought that I was simply coming up with a plan to... you know... kill myself, when in truth, I only wanted Leilani to see the lengths we could I go to earn her forgiveness.
And truth be told, I can go to any freaking length!
Why?
Because I had also partaken in the spectacle which was Ragnar’s death.
My hands balled into fists as I watched Kael exit the room, his arrogance reeking off him like a fragrance as he walked away, leaving me to stare at nothing but his retreating back. His shoulders were stiff as if holding all the tension in the world. But that wasn’t what stuck out to me the most about him.
What had stuck out to me was the resignation I had seen on his face. The frustration and tiredness that had exuded off him like an aura; and I knew... goddess I immediately knew that the man was tired. But I wasn’t.
Deciding that I couldn’t back away and simply let this misunderstanding to drive a wedge between us all, I picked up my phone and sent a text to Leilani, but after waiting for a couple of minutes, and realising that it never delivered, I knew then and there that whatever I had to do next had to be physical, so I took it upon myself to drive to Frostclaw. I arrived there in record time, and just in time to find her slipping out of a meeting with some men I had never seen in my life— not like it matters.
However, as soon as her eyes fell on me, the smile on her face fell and her eyes hardened. She walked over, beautifully strutting like the entire floor was her turf, but stopped when she arrived about a few feet away from me.
"Alpha Stormborn." She drawled, her voice so cold, it sent chills down my spine and sent a strange sweet sensation running down the length of my body.
I gulped upon seeing her beautiful face, and goodness gracious, she looked nothing like the broken crying girl I had seen last night, and for some reason, I was proud to see her like this.
Her eyes roved my face as if checking for something to hold against me, and when she probably came up with nothing, she hissed; "It’s not a pleasure to see you here today."
At the sound of her words, my face flushed. I smiled despite the harsh words she’d just thrown at me and lowered my head briefly before whispering; "Can I see you for a minute, please?"
"You are seeing me now," she muttered under her breath, "...so you can start talking."
But I didn’t. I could bring myself to say anything, not when there were so many eyes watching us. Not when I could sight Alpha Frostaclaw from the corner of my eye, glaring at me as if ready to send me to some bloody hounds.
My eyes darted around consciously, and as if noticing my discomfort, she shrugged and began to walk, her voice floating behind her as she said to me; "Follow me!"
"Huh?" I was stumped.
"Follow me, Sir!"
Something about those words made a small smile form on my face. It made me feel as though I was desired by her. And I do not know why, but I found myself feeling slightly cocky.
However, this cockiness is the reason I let my eyes meet Frostaclaw’s, and when he frowned at me, I smiled, bowed and smirked before walking away, ignoring the way he cocked his eyebrows at me.
I followed Leilani until she stepped into her office, but because she hadn’t given me the permission to either go in or stay out, I decided to take the better option. I stayed out...
That is until my legs left the floor on their own accord and I found myself gliding through air only to be thrown against a wall seconds later before the door slammed shut.
I gasped, "Goddess!"
"You didn’t expect me to keep waiting for you, or did you?" She drawled in that cold tone that I have begun to find sexy yet scary.
I gulped through my strangely tight throat and nodded. "Yes... I mean, no. I didn’t expect you to keep waiting for me."
"So what the hell do you have to say to me? Are you here to tell me sorry for... you know... murdering a man in cold blood, despite it not being your fault to begin with?"
I shook my head. "No. I am here to—"
"Tell me to forgive you for a crime you didn’t even know you were committing at the time?"
"Leilani, please calm down and listen to me..."
"Did you listen to him when he told you he wasn’t a thief?" She snapped, interrupting me, and in that moment, I felt my breath hitch— not because I couldn’t answer that question but because she could no longer hide the tears in her eyes. "Did you stop to listen when he told you and your brothers that he had something to say?"
Her trembling voice only told me one thing, which is: She was breaking apart... she was collapsing, right in front of me, and this is all because of my father and his beta.
The thought that the two men whom I had lived most of my life looking up to could make me do something like this made me feel enormously disappointed. I sighed. "I am here to console you."
She froze. Her lowered eyes slowly lifted to look at me and I could swear that what I saw in her eyes in that instant wasn’t anger but surprise... it was pain and an immense amount of sorrow, it was indescribable.
"I am here to tell you that I am sorry for everything... for hurting you in this manner. For being in the dark and not acknowledging your pain. Hell, if I could take back the hands of time, I would do everything I can to ensure that he was never killed. It was our fault, and for that, I am sorry."
"Caelum..."
"I am also sorry for thinking about sending you those expensive gifts from Louis Vuitton, channel just to make you feel better... Hell, I think there are even some custom made jewelleries amongst those items we sent to you earlier, and even though they may be quite expensive, they could never amount to the worth of a person’s life or the space the presence of your father could ever occupy in your life. And for that, I am sorry too for being insensitive and for not immediately understanding how hurt you may have been feeling.."
Her eyes widened as she regarded me quietly, but to my utmost surprise, she didn’t yell or throw me out like I had half expected. She didn’t even seem remotely pissed by my presence like she was earlier.
However, I had just opened my mouth, ready to tell her about my genius plan when she further surprised me by throwing her arms around my neck and burying her face into my chest.
The cry that slipped out of her mouth afterwards was agonizing. She whispered; "Can I ask you for a favor?"
And as soon as I heard that, I nodded quickly, desperate to have her forgive me. "Yes... yes, anything."
I felt her shudder and held her closer and wrapped my arms so tight around her, she melted into me. She rasped; "Can you tell me what he looked like? I never got to know what he looks like!"
At first, I didn’t understand what she was talking about but when the realization dawned on me, I froze. My mouth went dry and my body shook so much, I could barely keep us both standing.
"Leilani..." my voice was tight. Pleading. "I don’t—"
"Please, I beg you. You may have watched him die but at least, you saw him. I never did." She said, and those words, those quiet words, broke whatever was left of my already shattered heart and I couldn’t help the tears that streamed down my face.
