Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.-Chapter 236: Beautiful mate.
Kael.
Chalice was late as usual, but today, it annoyed me so much, I unintentionally began to grit my teeth together.
The hands by my sides balled into tight fists as I turned to look at my brothers who were just as antsy as I was but while Caelum busied himself with his phone, Zevran was barking orders to some of the palace servants.
He seemed irritated for some unknown reason while I... I was left waiting for the woman who we’ve all been cursed to be married to.
"Should we just leave?" Caelum asked after a moment of silence, his eyes flashing with that crazy wickedness that I sometimes liked about him. But just as the words slipped out of his mouth, I shook my head.
"She has to come with us..."
"But she’s late and I do not intend to spend the rest of the evening waiting for some bellè that I cannot even stand."
I wanted to respond to him just then when the sounds of heels clacking against the marble floor flitted into my ears and when I raised my eyes to see who it was— even though that wasn’t necessary as I could already smell her— I froze.
"Leilani?"
The smile on her face instantly faltered.
"Chalice?" I seethed, hating the way her name tasted like ash in my mouth.
But do you know what I hated more than mentioning her name? The way she looked! The way she had decided to dress tonight!
She was dressed in a navy blue mermaid dress that hugged all her curves in a way that would’ve set my skin ablaze if it was her twin wearing them. Her dyed hair was styled into a messy bun at the top of her head but in a way that loose tendrils framed her perfect face.
But that was not all. She was obviously not satisfied that she already looked so much like Leilani this way, and so she decided to finish the look by wearing purple contact lenses.
Of all colours, purple!
Which was why I had thought that she was Leilani at the very first second!
My voice made my brothers turn away from what they were doing earlier and when their eyes landed on her, I could see the way they visibly froze. Before slowly... very slowly, anger began to seep into their expressions.
Zevran looked like he was the most angry amongst us. and he didn’t even bother to hide it in the way his eyes flashed with rage nor in the way those said eyes roved along her body with disgust. He spat; "What the hell is this now, Chalice? Are you playing dress up?"
"No," Chalice whispered under her breath but ignoring her, he continued;
"It’s an engagement party not Halloween, for God’s sake, Chalice!"
"Are you so obsessed with your twin that you’d do anything to be her?" Caelum butted in; But for some reason today, she seemed unfazed.
Fine, it was no secret that the corners of her eyes had reddened with unshed tears but she didn’t cry out. She didn’t speak. She didn’t even try to turn away or give any indication that she wanted to change out of the outfit.
An outfit that made her look exactly like Leilani!
My blood boiled. "Go change that shit!" I yelled and as soon as my voice rang out, she flinched then dropped her gaze.
"I don’t have anything else to change into,"
"Are you trying to tell me that you, Chalice, is short on clothes and that you cannot find anything else to change into?"
"But my clothes aren’t bad!" She argued defiantly, throwing her hands up in a gesture of frustration or surrender. I don’t care!
"They aren’t. But your hair and contact lenses are. Keep the clothes if you must but take out those nonsense!" I yelled but she didn’t move.
She simply stood there and dropped her head, her limbs trembling uncontrollably as she stared at the floor.
A second passed and then two... and when I realized that she would probably not do it, I turned and walked out of the house, not bothering to check if she was following.
And I hoped to the heavens that she wasn’t.
My brothers and I got into the limousine and asked the driver to drive off without waiting for her... So you can imagine our surprise when we arrived at the location only to find her stepping out of our Audi like she owned the place while still clad in the dress we’d asked her to take off earlier. Her hair was still that hideous shade of silver and her eyes still had those stupid contact lenses on.
I frowned.
"Hey, let it go. We’re in public." That was Caelum, the voice that snapped me back to reality before I was forced to do something stupid.
My annoyance soared when she beamed a smile at me, and I was even more irritated when she looped her hands between mine, forcing a smile as she whispered; "I know you’re mad at me."
"And you should also know that I think you’re mad." I whispered back before looking away from her, all the time, noticing the way her breath hitched and the way her eyes drilled holes into the side of my skull.
Her breathing had become labored but I couldn’t ascertain if it was because she had just been scolded or if it was due to the way the corset around her midriff gripped her pregnant stomach a bit too tightly, but deciding that I didn’t want to ask her about it, I pressed my lips together and kept walking.
We walked in utter silence into the grand hall, and as soon as I stepped inside and my eyes landed on the woman whom I already knew I would spend all evening looking at, I froze.
Not because I was enthralled— I was— or because I was stunned.
It was because I was mad— not at her but at the sorry excuse of a woman who now stood beside me with her arms still looped in mine.
I was mad at the discomfort I’d now seen painting across Leilani’s face.
Why?
Because she was dressed... well, in the way she was normally dressed; seductive. Stunning. Mesmerising.
However, she was dressed just like Chalice and I knew without even thinking that this was all Chalice’s doing. That it was due to her overwhelming desire to be Leilani 2.0 that she’d decided to play this stunt
And that there was why I was mad.
As if reading my thoughts, Leilani strutted over slowly, and goddess, the way she swerved her hips made me forget my name for a second. I gulped like a starved man and licked my lips... and when I noticed her eyes trailing that action, I immediately gathered myself together and looked away...
But still, I couldn’t deny how even though she was dressed exactly like her sister, something about her made her look more attractive... more magnetic... I found myself leaning towards her before I could stop myself.
I vaguely heard her exchange a few words with her sister and then her eyes landed on me. My body spasmed.
She drawled; "Hello, Alpha,"
"Hello, beautiful mate." I called back, and it wasn’t until I’d said that that I realized my mistake. My lips snapped shut and I squeezed my eyes shut, as I at the same time felt my face heating up.
Shit shit shit!
