Farming with Entries: From Lord to Emperor-Chapter 530 - 271: Demon Hunter (Part 3)
The old Count sat in the high-backed chair at the head of the table, wearing a blue-black velvet robe, with a fur blanket draped over him.
However, compared to before, the old Count’s eyes had a bit more brightness to them.
When he saw Rod enter with Vivian, the old Count even attempted to stand up with his cane.
He tried twice, but ultimately remained seated.
At this moment, Vivian had already changed out of her long black tights and was wearing an ivory long dress.
Her long hair was meticulously styled into an elegant bun, with a few strands hanging beside her ears.
Her delicate face bore a gentle smile, looking like a typical noble lady.
"Father."
Vivian gracefully lifted her skirt a bit, bent her knees slightly in greeting, "Father, may today’s sunshine bring you health and happiness."
"Avril, my child."
The old Count looked at Vivian with affection, his voice filled with longing,
"It’s been so long since I’ve seen you, you look even more beautiful."
"Come here, let your father have a look at you."
Vivian smiled elegantly, quickly stepped forward, knelt down, and responded by holding the old Count’s hands.
"Father, I missed you so much."
"My poor child."
The old Count’s cloudy eyes were full of tenderness, gently stroking Vivian’s face,
"You’ve suffered a lot in the Desert these days."
"No, father, you don’t need to worry."
Vivian glanced at Rod, a sweet smile on her lips,
"Baron Rod has taken good care of me."
"Yes, I know, Baron Rod is also a very good child."
The old Count released her hands, his gaze shifting to Rod.
Rod bowed, smiling as he said, "Good day, Lord Earl."
"Baron Rod, I really don’t know how to thank you."
The old Count’s face was filled with wrinkles of a smile,
"If you hadn’t arrived in time, the Red Griffin family would have truly been ruined by that woman Susanna."
"Rest assured, you saved our entire family, and I will never forget this kindness."
Rod smiled and nodded slightly, "As Avril’s fiancé, it’s what I should do."
"Protecting my family is my duty."
"Good child, you really are a good child!"
The old Count’s smile grew even brighter at these words.
"Marrying Avril to you is one of my life’s best decisions, second only to marrying Avril’s mother."
After speaking, the old Count waved his hand,
"You all step back now, I want to talk with Baron Rod alone."
"Yes, sir."
The servants responded in unison and quickly left the dining room.
Finally, only the old Count, Rod, and Vivian were left in the room.
"Come sit by my side."
The old Count said warmly.
Rod nodded and quickly stepped forward to sit by the old Count.
"Child, I don’t want to hide anything."
The old Count sighed helplessly and slowly said, "Perhaps you’ve already guessed, Susanna’s two children are not mine."
Rod wanted to preserve the old Count’s dignity by feigning surprise, but after thinking it through, he nodded,
"Yes, I had already guessed when Susanna started to deal with us."
"Since that’s the case, I’ll be honest with you."
The old Count said calmly, "The affairs of the Red Griffin family can only be handed to Avril."
Saying this, the old Count held Vivian’s hand,
"Avril, you’re a smart and kind child, but you’re not suited to be a lord."
The old Count’s voice carried a note of worry,
"You are too much like your mother, always easily compassionate towards others."
"As a lord, compassion can only be a means to win people’s hearts, not your own desire."
"Therefore, I hope,"
The old Count looked towards Rod, "Baron Rod, that you will make the decisions for the Red Griffin family."
Rod listened quietly, his face expressionless.
"Of course, I’m not asking you to give without return."
"You should know the heritage of the Red Griffin family."
The old Count said leisurely, "We also have something only the heir to the title can command."
"Last night I saw your strength, I know you won’t just stop at the Northern Wasteland."
The old Count looked at Rod, solemnly promising:
"I can completely hand these people over to you, for you to command, and you can freely deploy all the powers of the Red Griffin family outside."
"I only hope that your and Avril’s second child can become the heir to the Red Griffin family, the Earl of the Red Griffin."
After saying this, the old Count gazed at Rod.
Rod frowned slightly, then shook his head.
"Why?" the old Count couldn’t help but ask.
"I will help Avril, but I don’t want it to become a transaction."
Rod said seriously.
Coming to this world, Rod had been involved in too many transactions.
Always calculating, considering the benefits of everything, filled with utilitarianism.
Originally coming here, just as the old Count said, was to help Avril secure the inheritance of the Red Griffin family.
But the words of the old Count just now made Rod change his mind.
Even his own child becoming part of a transaction?
"As for whether my child will become the Earl of the Red Griffin, I think that’s not something to consider right now."
The old Count was a bit stunned.
Vivian sensed Rod’s emotions, stood up and gently placed her hands on Rod’s shoulders.
"Father, I agree with Rod."
"Alright then."
The old Count smiled helplessly, patting his forehead,
"Perhaps I am too old-fashioned and ignorant, or maybe too old and have forgotten the love of youth."
The old Count sighed, speaking slowly: "Some things truly cannot be treated as a transaction."
As he finished speaking, the reception room fell into a deep silence.
After a long time, Vivian was the first to break the silence,
"Father, did you take the potion that Garrick brought you last night?"
"Of course, it worked very well."
The old Count said with a smile, "If not for your potions, you might only be able to see me in a bedroom filled with the scent of decay."
Vivian nodded, and asked again, "Then do you think, if there were a few more bottles of such potion, it would make your body feel better?"
"The bottle I drank this morning doesn’t have much effect left."
The old Count leaned his head against the back of the chair, waved his hand, and said self-deprecatingly, "You two shouldn’t worry about this old useless man, it’s no use."
"My injuries from when I was practicing an estimated Breathing Technique in the past, with the old injuries in my body, I became too eager to break through to the top Knight, and was severely damaged by chaotic turbulent energy."
"Now those energies have always been in my body, slowly corroding my limbs and various organs."
"Therapeutic potions won’t work well, even if treated, the corrosion will still continue."
"So you are saying that the biggest problem with your body is still practicing?"
Rod contemplated,
"If that’s the case, perhaps I really can solve it."
