Farming with Entries: From Lord to Emperor-Chapter 340 - 206: You Can Go to the Northern Territory
"Lead the way."
At Linda’s command, they headed straight for the northern manor.
The tall walls of the manor had collapsed, rubble strewn everywhere.
Under the captain’s guidance, they crossed through the manor’s courtyard and entered the main building, quickly spotting the dark underground entrance on the side of the hall.
"It’s in here."
The captain pointed inside and said, "Torch."
The soldiers immediately lit a torch and brought it over, and the squad leader handed it to Linda.
Linda shook her head, frowning deeply,
"I smell magic power."
Linda snapped her fingers, and a ball of fire appeared, hovering beside her.
Then she walked down the stairs into the basement.
The stone steps were slippery and steep, with unknown slime seeping from the walls.
By the light of the fireball beside her, she saw a chilling sight.
Numerous shriveled corpses were neatly arranged on the ground.
Their skin was as pale as sheep’s milk, with sunken eyes, as if all their blood and life force had been completely drained.
It was no wonder the soldiers couldn’t describe it.
Even Linda was shocked, let alone the ordinary people.
Linda crouched down to examine them closely.
These corpses had no external injuries and showed no signs of decay, as if everything had been drained from them in an instant.
What caught Linda’s attention even more was that these corpses surrounded a complex rune array drawn in black blood, exuding a spine-chilling, cold aura.
"This array has drained everything from them."
She frowned and shook her head, "I don’t recognize these runes, I need to find my companions."
The flames beside her flickered uneasily, as if also fearful of this malevolent power.
"Protect this place, don’t let anyone else get close."
Linda stood up, "I’m not sure if it still has any lingering power."
"You all stay outside, don’t come near."
"Yes, Lady Linda."
The squad leader nodded solemnly and immediately withdrew with his men.
Linda didn’t linger either, turning to leave this eerie place.
But the doubts in Linda’s mind grew stronger.
What are these arrays for?
Some evil ritual?
Or the source of revitalizing these rotting corpses?
Why choose this remote town?
Linda pondered, feeling the need to quickly write a letter to send the message to her companions, so those wizards could deal with this place.
No one could say for sure whether those rotten corpses would return.
"Retreat, fall back!"
A soldier’s shout interrupted Linda’s thoughts.
She turned her head to see a crowd gathered on the open ground outside the town.
They were probably the town’s residents, wanting to enter the town but being blocked.
"Sirs, please let us in, we beg you!"
"Our food and belongings are inside!"
"I’ve not eaten for days, please let me in to get my things!"
The townsfolk cried out, surging forward, but were scared back by the sound of a longsword being drawn.
"Xiliu River Town is contaminated, no one is allowed to enter now!"
The soldier captain shouted sternly, "Anyone taking another step forward, and I’ll cut off his head!"
This was no empty threat.
Previously, soldiers had been infected by the foul air, turning into rotten corpses.
If Linda hadn’t come with the potion to prevent the intrusion, they wouldn’t have dared to enter on their own.
"Then, when can we go in..."
"I don’t know!"
The soldier captain said coldly, "I advise you to leave here temporarily, stay with relatives or friends, and return after the war."
The soldier’s words filled the townsfolk’s faces with despair.
Everyone began to sigh, and some even cried out in hopelessness.
Children, affected by the adults’ emotions, cried even louder.
Linda watched all this and walked towards the crowd.
Seeing Linda’s attire, the townsfolk assumed she was a noble lady and immediately grew restless.
An old man stepped forward.
"Miss, please help us..."
The old man’s voice trembled, "We haven’t eaten for three days."
"Yes, beautiful miss, please be kind..." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
The townsfolk echoed.
Linda said nothing, looking at the soldiers beside her.
Then she looked at these desperate townsfolk.
Very helpless.
She had seen too many such tragedies; the war had turned the entire southwestern frontier into hell.
But Linda could do nothing.
She was not a noble and didn’t have sufficient financial resources.
Linda hesitated for a moment and asked, "Where do you plan to go?"
"I don’t know." The old man shook his head.
War was raging everywhere, and there were refugees everywhere, no one was willing to take them in anymore.
"We wanted to go home to rebuild, but the soldiers wouldn’t let us in."
"They say the town is infected, very dangerous... but besides here, where else can we go?"
Linda nodded silently, acknowledging that they were indeed in a difficult position.
Looking at a woman holding a baby nearby, Linda slowly walked forward, gently stroking the child’s head.
"Miss, can you give us some food?"
The woman spoke with tears in her voice, "Even a little would be enough."
Linda sighed, felt her pocket, and pulled out a few pieces of dry bread, handing them to the woman.
The other refugees rushed over at the sight, and Linda instinctively raised her hand to unleash flames.
But she restrained herself.
At this moment, the soldiers rushed over, using their blades to halt the refugees’ advance.
"I don’t have food, I can’t help you."
Linda said to the crowd helplessly.
As her words fell, the crowd let out disappointed sighs.
Followed by cries of despair.
Some began to weep, others let out long, despairing sighs.
The children, sensing the adults’ despair, started to cry again.
Just then, Linda raised her hand, signaling for silence.
"However, I can point you to a path."
Everyone raised their heads to look at her, gazes filled with hope.
"You say, as long as we can survive..."
Before the old man could finish, Linda raised her hand and pointed northward,
"If you can hold on, you can cross the Empire, head to the Northern Wasteland."
"There, Baron Luo De of Black Pine Ridge is a very capable and bold lord. He will take you in and feed you."
Linda’s words left everyone exchanging glances.
Northern Wasteland?
Isn’t that a barren and perilous desert?
