Falling for the Omega Idol-Chapter 214: DANCE MISSION (I)
HANEUL watched as Seojun walked onto the stage, followed by Taeyang, then the third and fourth ranked contestants. None of them walked back out the way they came, so he assumed they must have gone through a different door backstage after making their song choice.
Soon, it was Park Mirae’s turn. Haneul was not sure exactly how long he waited for his own turn. But it felt like only a minute passed before a staff member gestured for him to go behind the divider on the stage. He knew his wait had actually been much longer. It only felt short because of how nervous he was.
He stood up and walked onto the stage. Stepping behind the divider, he saw the five stands with the song names written on them. In front of each stand was a small table with cards neatly lined up. He guessed that after choosing a song, he had to pick one card from the table in front of it.
Haneul stood in front of the stands and carefully read each of the five song titles.
[Crown the March] by Atlas
[Heart Skip!] by Double U
[Starlight Fever] by Infinite Boys
[Right on Time] by Stera
[Over the Edge] by Phenix
Haneul stared at the choices and blinked. The only full choreography he knew was for [Starlight Fever], because it was a very popular song by Infinite Boys. Any song from that group, the general public just knew it. He was a little familiar with [Heart Skip!] and [Right on Time], because both songs had gone viral when they were released. But they were girl group songs, very bubbly and poppy, and he was not really a fan of that style.
As for the last two, [Crown the March] and [Over the Edge], he had heard them but he’s not really that familiar. It had been so long since he last heard the two songs that it would be hard for him to remember all the details. What he did know was that Atlas was a group famous for having very difficult choreography. Phenix, on the other hand, was known for their more sensual and smooth dance styles.
So, which one to choose?
If he wanted to take the easy way, he should pick [Starlight Fever]. But that was a very common, safe choice. It wouldn’t really help him stand out. [Heart Skip!] and [Right on Time] were both good songs. But they were both so cute and bubbly that he wasn’t sure he could do them well. [Crown the March] was never an option. If he chose that, he might just end up being a burden to his group. So then...
Haneul’s eyes landed on the last remaining song, [Over the Edge]. From what little he could remember, it was a very sensual song with matching sensual choreography.
He let out a long sigh and walked to the table in front of the stand for [Over the Edge]. He knew his dancing skills were still just above average. That was not something that could change overnight, even with all the practice he had done. But at least he was a lot better now than he had been on the first day he arrived on the ship.
So, to cover up his average dancing, he might as well use the ’gift’ that Yeomra had given him. He had a feeling that if he danced sensually, that ’gift’ would work to its fullest.
The thought made him cringe a little on the inside. It felt like planning to cheat. But this was different from the vocal mission. If he did not use everything he had to his advantage, he might get eliminated. Or even be labeled as someone who couldn’t dance.
Although, this choice could also have a disadvantage. What if it boxed him into a ’sexy’ concept? That was one of his worries after he realized what kind of ’gift’ Yeomra had given him. But that had not happened yet. So, he should focus on the present instead.
Haneul looked at the cards on the table. There were still seven black cards left. That meant one of the earlier contestants had already picked this song. He just hoped it’s not Park Mirae. He seriously didn’t want to be in the same group as that guy. Maybe, if he was lucky, he and Taeyang would end up in the same group again.
"Please proceed backstage once you have made your selection," a staff member instructed from the side.
Haneul nodded politely to the staff member. He turned and walked toward the backstage area. As he walked, he looked down at the card in his hand. He remembered that Dyna had said instructions would be written on it.
The card was sleek and black, made of a smooth, sturdy material. The front was completely blank. He turned it over. On the back, written in clean white lettering, were the words: Please proceed to Practice Room 5.
That was the only thing written on it. That was it? He shrugged and walked out of the performance hall to go to the floor where the practice rooms were located.
He arrived on the right floor and found the door marked "Practice Room 5." He turned the handle and pushed the door open.
Haneul almost paused in the doorway when he saw the person already standing inside the room. It was an Alpha, tall with a solid, athletic build. His hair was bleached a bright blond, and Haneul could see the glint of a couple of earrings on one ear. It was the fourth-ranked contestant, Jeon Hyunsik.
He felt a small pang of disappointment that it wasn’t Taeyang. But he quickly shook the feeling off and was simply glad it was not Park Mirae. He offered the other a polite smile and walked inside the room.
"Hi, I’m Kang Haneul," he said, offering his hand to other.
Jeon Hyunsik’s eyes moved over him. It was a fast sweep, the kind someone watching might not catch. But Haneul felt every second of it. The look felt sticky and invasive.
The other licked his lips before smiling and shaking Haneul’s offered hand. "I’m Jeon Hyunsik."
