FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING-Chapter 125: THE CLOSURE OF THE VOID (1)
Before they took flight, Arella turned to her brother, who had been holding a barrier of light to protect her from the demons. A thin sheen of perspiration covered his forehead. A bright light emanated from the staff in his hands, which he used to smack the head of an intruder who tried to sneak up on him.
Arella gave him a smile, "Cassie." she called out.
He turned to her, and Arella could clearly see the exhaustion in his eyes. Velmoria was just but a few paces away, holding her whip.
The weapon let out a whoosh sound as Velmoria cracked it forward, shooting it out like a lightening bolt. The pointed tip wrapped around the throat of an invader who had tried to breach the perimeter.
With a sharp yank, she had pulled the intruder closer, slamming them into the ground and stabbing a knife into them. They had barely disappeared into particles of molten light before Velmoria moved onto the next one.
She danced between blows with graceful and fluid motions. Every twist of her hips, every step of her boots, sent her whip flowing in arcs of elegance, cutting through armor and protective arrays.
Fighting alongside them was a flash of pink. Her dress was somehow, still ninety percent intact. She was fighting with a pair of twin daggers. Her movements were a blur, impossibly fast, as if time bent around her body.
She twisted her body mid air, causing her pink skirts to flare out, like petals, before she landed on the shoulders of one of the intruders, stabbing her knives into either side of his neck. She jumped off just as the intruder disappeared. She then gave Castiel and Velmoria a once over, before going for her next attacker.
It was then that Arella noticed the slight shimmer in her blades, some type of enchantment perhaps.
The girl was a whirlwind of elegance as she fought.
She expertly ducked beneath a spiked blade and spun low, slicking through an invader’s Achilles’s heel with one dagger. She then took the chance when the invader stumbled to stab upwards into his chest with the other. Golden letters appeared above his head before he also disappeared into motes of light.
Lady Immera and Lady Seraphine looked worse for wear. The younger demon’s face was pallid, more so than usual. Her blue horns glowed with a silver hue as the magic circle below their feet sapped more and more of her demonic power.
She had refused to go back to the safety of the palace even after General Lilithia arrived with her sorcerers. She fought alongside Lady Immera, and though her demonic energy was much lower than many of those who were fighting and who had been in war for long, she was still able to hold her ground.
Lady Seraphine’s hands trembled as she carved rune after rune, each releasing powerful defensive magic that threw back enemies with enough force to pulverize them. Her magic was more refined than it was forceful, throwing back ten or so attackers with a huge blast of icy cold air.
Her demonic power, was, quite honestly, quite beautiful to look at. It waved and floated in the air like ribbons.
If the situation had not been so dire, Arella would have stayed back to admire her.
Arella’s staff, which had materialized away as they completed the mating, materialized in her hand once more. She raised it, tracing a symbol mid air. A blue rune materialized in the air for a micro second, before bursting outward in a blast of water that threw their intruders back.
Then, a large cylinder of water circled them, deterring any intruder who dared attack.
"The King and I are going to close the vortex." Arella said simply, "I need anyone who can fly to have our backs, as it needs our entire concentration."
Castiel looked exhausted, and seeing as he had used most of his holy power to heal Arella, it was rapidly running low. Still, he gave Arella a small firm nod. He gripped his staff tighter, and straightened his back just a little bit more, "We will hold the skies and have your back, Ella. Do what you must."
Arella gave Castiel a small smile, immensely glad that she had her brother here by her side. He had always been her pillar, and even with a hundred years of separation, that had yet to change, and probably would not change for a very long time.
Velmoria cracked her whip once smacking one of the flying intruders onto the ground. Lady Darvia sunk her dagger into the intruder’s chest, letting the sound of her swishing blade rip through the air. "Go. We’ll clear your path." Velmoria assured, flapping her wings twice for good measure. "We will fly above you, clearing your path. Lady Immera and Lady Seraphine can ensure the ground is safe."
Arella turned her gaze upward to the gaping hole in the sky—the vortex, still pulsing like a heartbeat against the darkened heavens. She felt its hunger even from this distance. It was devouring energy, matter,
She turned to Varziel, who was looking at her like she held the sun in her hands. She gave him a small smile, "Do you trust me?"
"With my life."
His answer was immediate, as if he did not even need to think of it.
Her smile widened, then, without warning, her wings had spread out wide, and she was flapping into the air. Varziel did not need further prompt before he was stretching out his three pairs of wings and launching himself after her.
The winds howled around them, thick with smog and the static sting of a storm that was still half-born. The closer they flew to the vortex, the tighter Arella’s chest grew. The world twisted, and gravity buckled in places. Light refracted in an unnatural hue, one moment the clouds were above, the next beside them, as though the laws of the world had been altered.
Their flight cut through the warping air, Arella’s form holding firm with light that glowed from the intertwined halos that twisted and turned over each other above her head. She could feel the bond with Varziel pulse in time with each wingbeat, the steady rhythm anchoring them against the chaos.
Below them, the battlefield had shifted. The defenders, those who were still standing, formed a set of tight aerial units, flying in coordinated spirals that intercepted enemies and shielded Arella and Varziel from stray arrows and attacks.
Velmoria and Lady Darvia moved in tandem, carving a path upward for Arella and Varziel.
The pair of pink feathered wings of Lady Darvia’s were big and beautiful. They glowed softly, with colors that changed from dark pink to light pink when the light hit them. The feathers were smooth and shiny, like silk, and sparkled a little at the edges.
Thin lines of magic ran through them, glowing when she flapped or used her power.
As she flew, it looked calm and graceful, like she was floating. She sliced through throwing air like a phantom, throwing pink knives and daggers that cut through the enemies before disappearing and reappearing in her hands.
Velmoria was a crimson blur, the leather of her whip in flames which she used to take down enemies.
Below them, in the vanguard of their little party, was Castiel, who cast shields to protect the two females at the forefront. He also protected their backs. Despite his depleting holy power, he still used his staff to smack attackers, throwing them back with sheer power.
"Watch out!" Castiel shouted as a bolt of blue flew past him, aiming for Arella.
Arella veered away just in time, dodging the attack. The attacker this time flew on a winged beast that screeched as it came after them, claws extended.
Varziel dove, slamming his body into it, Vhalgrith grew in his hands, extending so long that its tip poked out from the other side of the beast. Immediately, it burst into millions of golden shards, and its rider fell to his death.
The closer they flew to the vortex, the more the intruders glitched with rectangular motes of light. This time, they did not watch, and instead actively attacked Arella and Varziel, who, thankfully, had Castiel, Velmoria and Darvia protecting them. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Shadows trailed behind Varziel, wrapping around enemies and throwing them to Castiel to deal with.
Although Arella had not explicitly mentioned it, he instinctively knew that he had to save his demonic power to destroy the vortex, thus he refrained using his flames to fight.
