Fake Husband of the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 65 - 0: Who are you having dinner with that’s more important than my matter?
Chongming District.
In the district government office building.
Yang Rong, the second housekeeper, sat contentedly in his office chair holding a teacup, pleased with himself for discussing a business investment with a certain company.
Soon, his assistant secretary approached him and said, "Leader, the representative of the company we successfully attracted for investment today called. They hope we can expedite the process because their construction team needs to schedule the work."
Yang Rong put the lid on his cup and frowned, "It’s not done yet?"
The secretary nodded, "It’s just the final stamp approval stage, but Director Lin, who is responsible for the seal, took leave and didn’t come to work today, so we can’t stamp it."
"What is he implying?" Yang Rong’s expression turned sour as he slammed the cup on the desk, "When else to take leave if not now? Call him and have him come to the office to stamp it for me."
The secretary replied, "I called, and he said he’s busy having a meal with someone, and he might not come over until the afternoon."
"Is he deliberately showing this to me?" Yang Rong scoffed coldly, "Is his guest more important? What about my guest? He doesn’t realize who’s currently spearheading the district’s economy!"
Standing up, he instructed the secretary, "Call him again. Tell him to come over and finalize the contract before he goes back to his meal. Say it’s my request!"
He left the office, planning to go to the Big Housekeeper to complain.
In this matter, he had a reason to be assertive with Lin Langsheng, as he had recently attracted a company to invest in Chongming. In such matters, the Big Housekeeper would certainly side with him.
When he reached the Big Housekeeper Cai Qi’s office, he knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Cai Qi looked up and saw it was the second housekeeper, his gaze asking what was the matter.
Yang Rong sighed and said, "Big Housekeeper, it’s not that I want to criticize Director Lin, but of all days, why did he choose today to take leave? The company I negotiated with is pushing us. They said if there’s nothing wrong with the materials we submit, to hurry and stamp them so they can send back the receipt and their board can start work immediately."
He added with exasperated amusement, "I called Director Lin, told him to come over and stamp it before he gets busy, and he told my secretary to wait, saying he might only come by in the afternoon."
After hearing this, Cai Qi slowly said, "Director Lin did ask me for leave today, and I approved it. Maybe he really has important business. Since he said he will come by in the afternoon, just wait for him."
Yang Rong was stunned.
The Big Housekeeper Cai Qi’s tone towards Lin Langsheng today seemed a bit different.
In the past, if he couldn’t pressure Lin Langsheng, reporting to Cai Qi always ensured a surefire solution!
Cai Qi, who always prioritizes the bigger picture, would definitely consider the investment matter first.
Yang Rong pressed, "But Big Housekeeper, that company has an investment scale of one hundred million, and it took me great effort to attract them to our district from among 15 others. They are sincere, so we should also show our willingness to make things easy for them."
"Now, businesses are afraid of dealing with the government because it makes things complicated. Lin Langsheng can’t cause these new investors to have a bad impression of us for neglecting them over personal matters."
Cai Qi saw the point in Yang Rong’s argument.
He suggested, "Then call him again and insist on getting the contract matter sorted out first before dealing with other things."
Yang Rong’s secretary, who had meanwhile spoken over the phone outside, came in and said, "Both leaders, Director Lin says he simply cannot get away."
Lin Langsheng was currently dining with Gu Feng and his mother, as well as other relatives.
He, of course, understood the importance of his work duties.
He did not refuse to go; he just wanted to finish this meal properly and then go to the office in the afternoon before the end of the workday.
Rarely did he have the chance to meet and get acquainted with Gu Feng’s mother from Beijing, a very influential figure. He didn’t want to miss this opportunity!
But the persistent urging on Yang Rong’s secretary’s part irritated him and put him in a difficult spot.
His phone kept ringing, three times already!
Today Gu Feng’s mother primarily wanted to meet Lin Yue and other family members, and Lin Langsheng represented their side for the reception.
If he casually left now, what would Gu Feng’s mother think?
Even though he didn’t yet know the Gu family’s strength, the quality of the tea leaves and the cigarettes hinted at no ordinary background!
Making light of Yang Rong would make no difference, as he had never been rated highly within the office anyway.
Regardless of his efforts, his future held no promise.
Instead, he might as well bank on his niece’s husband’s family, the Gu family.
He was willing to face a review at his job; he wanted to finish today’s meal with joy and see Gu Feng’s mother off back to Beijing.
While dining, Lin Langsheng saw another call coming to his cellphone.
His expression immediately became troubled!
The call just now was from Yang Rong’s secretary, which he might have been able to manage, but this call was from a landline.
It was Big Housekeeper Cai Qi’s call!
He had already informed him about taking leave today, but if Cai Qi was still calling, it indicated that Yang Rong had complained to the higher-ups.
Lin Langsheng couldn’t ignore this call, and if ordered back to the office, he had no choice but to return.
"Excuse me, I need to take this call." Lin Langsheng wished he could smack himself.
He had already answered several calls today, causing the conversation to be interrupted repeatedly, which had a major impact on the host’s enthusiasm.
It was very disappointing!
Even Lin Yue’s mother and his wife Zhao Yanrong found it uncomfortable to watch but had no choice other than to smile and chat with Yu Ling to shift the topic.
When Lin Langsheng came back, he even apologetically bowed slightly to Yu Ling, "Mother-in-law, and Feng, I’m truly sorry. The leaders at my unit insist I must return to stamp a document for a company. I’ll just be a moment; once stamped, I’ll come right back. The round trip should only take about an hour!"
Gu Feng frowned.
We’ve barely sat down for half an hour, and haven’t finished all the dishes, and now you’re making one phone call after another.
Lin Yue, not wanting to see this continue, reminded Lin Langsheng, "Uncle, my mother-in-law’s flight is at 3:30."
It’s 1 o’clock now. If you take an hour to go and come back, it will already be 2 o’clock, and she still needs to go to the airport early to board and check in her ticket.
We might as well not eat at all.
