Chapter 164: T-rex. Put do not disturb sign

Yiren’s pov

I pour myself a glass of wine before settling on his leather chair near the window. Moonlight pours in, giving me a clear view of the corner of the bookshelf—rows and rows full of books on architecture and design. I didn’t buy a single book. Jun saw my Kindle, and a week later, every book was delivered to me here, including the one on the wishlist.

That’s his love language. And I love him more and more for it.

The phone in his office rings, and I look at the door, hoping for Jun to walk in and take it. This can only be work-related. It rings to the end and is sent to voicemail.

"Hey Jun, Dr. Jeff here. Your phone is unreachable, so I’m calling here. I’m afraid I have to cancel all the sessions from tomorrow till next Thursday. Wife threatened to divorce me if I don’t take her on a holiday for our anniversary... Gotta do something before I end up single—"

Alarm rings. A doctor? I pick it up. "What happened to Jun? Why is he consulting you? Please tell me he is fine."

A pause. "You must be Yiren, right?"

"Yes. I’m his wife. How do you know me? Answer my questions."

He chuckles. "I know you because you are your man’s favorite topic. He talks about you for fifty-five minutes out of an hour session with me. Yiren this, Yiren that, blah blah blah... And the way his voice and eyes light up, I can tell how deeply he loves you."

"Session?"

"I’m a psychiatrist, Mrs. Feng. Your husband is my patient and has been consulting me. Yes, he is absolutely fine. And no, I can’t disclose any more information due to doctor-patient confidentiality. Though I’m certain he’ll tell you everything if you ask him."

My throat constricts as I stare at the phone like it’s a real human. Jun is consulting a psychiatrist. He is trying to overcome this phase.

"Yiren?" Dr. Jeff’s voice comes again. "I’m taking the liberty to call you by name, considering my close relations with Jun’s family. I’m glad you answered this phone, as I really wanted to talk to you once."

"W-Why?"

"Healing can’t be one-sided. If you want him to live—truly live—then you must too. Not in the shadow of Alzheimer’s. Not in the countdown of what may be lost. But in the heartbeat of what is still here. Let go TOGETHER. Not of each other, but of the fear. Allow yourselves joy without guilt, presence without dread. Make memories not just for the sake of remembering—but because this moment, this love, is still real, still yours. And that’s more powerful than anything the future can take away. Your fear is valid. But it’s not the only truth, right?"

The sound of footsteps at the door behind me signals he is here, listening. Watching me shed tears, fingers fiddling with the wine glass.

Dr. Jeff is right. Healing can’t be one-sided. I’m equally responsible.

"Looking forward to seeing you with Jun in our next session. Take care."

As soon as the line is dead, I run straight for Jun and launch myself into his arms. His closing embrace becomes the anchor of my emotions.

"I’m sorry... I didn’t mean to make you carry all this alone. I just—I thought—Fk, I’m an idiot. I’m sorry."

"Shh, love..." he whispers. "You’re the reason I know what it means to live. Don’t apologize for loving me so much that it scares you. You are my strength, my everything."

I pull back just enough to look into his eyes—eyes I have memorized, mapped, and fallen in love with.

"Dr. Jeff is right. Healing goes two ways. I’m coming with you to the sessions, as I need some too."

He carries me to the chair and settles me on his lap. My head against his beating heart, soothing me. We stay like this for God knows how long...

Our moment breaks when Yuyu barges into the room like a little tornado. "You can’t miss this! That T-Rex just yeeted out of the trees and turned a guy into a human meat burrito—arms flying like confetti. Then another T-Rex showed up like, ’Yo, save me a leg!’ They started a dino tug-of-war with his torso, and I swear I saw a shoe land in a tree. Can we stay up a little longer and watch Jurassic Park 2 as well?"

Jun moves his head slowly at Yuyu. No words, just silent communication of some sort. She slowly retraces her steps as if we are real-life T-Rexes. "Okayyy understood. Can you guys at least put a ’do not disturb’ sign at the door?" And she runs off as if a T-Rex is after her.

Jun lets out a laugh. He tips his head and lets it free—a wild laugh. Just like before. The laughter that has been missing for days and is my favorite. Gosh, the things I’ll do to hear it again. Forever."Your laugh is my favorite thing in the world."

He wipes the tear from the corner of his eye. "And here I thought it was my dick."

I slap his shoulder.

"Ah, I love you so much."

"I love you too."

He drops his forehead to mine. "You were right. Fear kills. And I have a lot to do in this life. Want to see the entire world holding your hand. Do the daring activities that you hate so much. See Bear’s love story coming to life, even if it means death by Zian for trying to steal Vivian’s husky. Then take my wife on the date that always keeps getting postponed for some reason, check the items off her bucket list, redecorate the house so it doesn’t look like a bachelor’s pad, and—"

"And?"

"Give Bear siblings. Mini you, mini me, mini us."

Mini us. A little Jun running around the house or chasing his elder siblings, talking about T-Rex.Warmth spreads through me. "I like the sound of mini Jun."

"Mini Yiren." He corrects me like I offend him.

"Mini Jun."

"Mini Yiren. Period." Before I can retort, he slams his mouth to mine. I mentally count to ten seconds for him to pull back, but—

He moans and squeezes me tight in his arms. I feel his tongue tracing the seam of my lips. I let him enter, getting the taste of him that I love so much.

Then he pulls away, breaking the moment.

Ah, I’m going to kill him tonight.

"WHAT!? Ten seconds over?" I have to ask, because I lost count.

He picks me up by the waist and sets me on the table before walking to the door. Just when I think he is leaving, he shuts it and locks it.

Three fast strides and he is back by my side. "Can’t let the kids hear or see what I’m going to do next."

One clean swoop and the perfectly set things on the table are all on the floor as he pushes me down to lay on my back.

"I didn’t get the strawberry milkshake. So I’ll drink something else." His hand skates up my nightdress, rubbing the damp fabric, making me see stars.

Gosh.

"How dare you wear panties." I hear a tear, and off they go, flying somewhere. I’m bared to him, lying flat on the table, spread wide.

"Don’t touch me if you don’t have plans to do something more," I hum as he gives a deep, long kiss to my wet folds.

"This is going to be a long night, Bunny. A very long one."
