Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind-Chapter 54 - 47: Gu Yao Expresses Thanks
You Su uncharacteristically slept in today and only got up at the end of the hour of the dragon.
He was secretly annoyed with himself for slacking off, as there had been no teaching last night, and he had actually slept until now. His junior sister probably saw he was tired and didn’t wake him in the morning.
You Su shook his head, sat up from the bed, stretched lazily, moved his limbs, and felt his cultivation at the spiritual platform, abundant and full, even slightly higher than before.
You Su felt delighted. The spiritual platform has three realms, each with its own level. Once all three levels are fully formed, the Profound Qi within can be condensed into water, breaking through to the Condensed Water Realm.
Beyond the joyful speed of cultivation, what shocked You Su more was his legs. In just one night, he no longer felt any pain, only a slight itching at the wound, like ants biting him. When he touched it, he found the wound had already begun to scab over and parts had naturally fallen off.
Such exaggerated recovery ability—was it the effect of that Spiritual Creation Elixir? Or that piece of decaying flesh? Probably the latter had a greater effect.
You Su walked out of the door, brushed his teeth, washed his face, and took some pastries from the Qiankun Bag to casually fill his stomach; this is a new use he discovered, as the Qiankun Bag can keep things fresh.
After eating, he stood under the loquat tree, with sunlight slicing through the leaves falling beautifully on the young man.
You Su steadily raised his sword, recalling the final strike from yesterday. He didn’t know what had happened to him at that time; with the echo of his master’s admonishment, he had only one thought: to break free from confinement, to unleash the wild intent in his chest, and whoever stood before him would not stop this strike.
This was different from the mysterious surge of power he felt the night he killed Mr. Ling. You Su could feel it was his own power, unrelated to the piece of decaying flesh.
After eighteen years of sword practice, this was definitely the strongest strike he had ever unleashed.
He tried hard to recapture that feeling, that desperate, unyielding desire to get something, but after a long pause, the brilliance of that strike was hard to replicate.
Just as he was deeply perplexed, a knock on the door brought his mind back.
You Su furrowed his brow. Since the master’s departure, this remote sect had seen no visitors other than that time Wu Cheng broke in with others. Who could be visiting now?
No matter who the person outside was, You Su only hoped it wasn’t Gu Yao. Gu Yao’s Evil-breaking Golden Eyes were enough to prove he was the most likely person in Chuyun City to discover his junior sister and master were malevolent spirits.
"Gu Yao, External Affairs Steward of Profound Sky Sect, here to visit the Mandarin Duck Sword Sect."
Each word tightened like a noose around You Su’s heart. He nearly fell into dizziness; the worst outcome had indeed occurred.
He anxiously glanced towards his junior sister’s and master’s rooms, pondering a countermeasure nervously in his heart.
"Is anybody there?" Gu Yao’s voice was growing louder and more insistent.
No, he can’t shout any more, lest he calls out the junior sister and master, making things worse. Now he could only gamble on the array deceiving him so that he thinks it’s just a routine visit and won’t perform any spells to seek out evil here.
With a "creak," the wooden door opened. Outside was only Gu Yao. You Su managed to force a pleasant surprise:
"Mr. Gu, what brings you here?"
"I’ve come to check on your injuries and take the opportunity to assess your sect. Sorry for visiting without prior notice. I hope I’m not intruding." Seeing You Su open the door, Gu Yao’s stern face slightly relaxed.
"No intrusion at all. Please, Mr. Gu, come in. I’ll fetch you some tea." You Su said this while making way for Gu Yao to enter, his heart pounding as Gu Yao walked in.
It stood to reason that such a distinguished guest should be received in the main hall, but the side room of the main hall was the master’s room. You Su hesitated, then bit his lip and said, "Mr. Gu, the main hall has been unused for years and is likely dusty. Would you mind waiting while I clean it up for your comfort?"
As he spoke, he stepped aside to stand conveniently between the main hall and the stone table and chairs in the yard, as seen from Gu Yao’s perspective.
Sure enough, Gu Yao noticed the table and chairs in the courtyard to the left, recalling Mr. Liou’s description from yesterday. After surveying the old, shabby sect residence, he found nothing strange about a dusty main hall. After all, the place indeed did not look like it hosted guests. He amiably said:
"There’s no need. Sitting over there looks fine, doesn’t it? Under the loquat tree, by the green-moss well—it’s delightful."
"How could I? What’s the sense of letting a distinguished guest sit in the yard? Please wait a moment, it’ll just take a second." With that, You Su was about to leave.
Gu Yao hurriedly pulled You Su back, smiling: "I really stopped by opportunistically; there’s no need to stand on ceremony. No need to brew tea, either. Let’s just chat casually."
You Su nodded, deeply apprehensive, and led Gu Yao to the seat under the tree.
"Have your injuries improved since yesterday?" Gu Yao took the initiative to ask.
"I’m much better, thanks to Mr. Gu’s Spirit Pill." You Su was about to express his gratitude but was stopped by Gu Yao.
"I’m glad you’re better. Young people should never rely on their strong bodies by neglecting their injuries. This could easily leave traces of future disease and obscure their path to the Tao." Gu Yao said earnestly, appearing entirely different from when he faced Mr. Liou. Now he seemed more like a kind, middle-aged uncle.
"I will remember." You Su said respectfully.
"Besides, if anyone should be thanking someone, it’s rather I who should thank you." Gu Yao continued in his usual gentle tone, "It was a mistake forcing you to admit guilt on the first day. You’re very perceptive, and you surely noticed Mr. Liou did that deliberately to put me in my place."
You Su dared not respond, unable to discern if Gu Yao was genuinely expressing thanks or probing him intentionally. Gu Yao continued: "If I said I used authority to suppress you only because I didn’t want my Profound Sky Sect to lose face because of me, does that seem hypocritical?"
"If my sect were looked down upon due to me, I would probably make the same choice as Mr. Gu." You Su said, lowering his eyes respectfully.
Gu Yao gave a wry smile. This blind boy’s transparent mind almost made him feel sorry for how he had treaded so gingerly to grow thus far:
"No need to console me. Though Mr. Liou and I are fellow senior brothers, we don’t get along. Actually, I specifically chose the assignment to Chuyun City to see him humiliated. Yet to be set in my place by him right upon arrival...who would believe I didn’t have personal motives involved? You salvaged the situation and helped me greatly. I intended to thank you afterward, but unforeseen duties occupied me until today, the last opportunity I had."
You Su hastily said, "Mr. Gu, you overstate things. I’m just an insignificant person. Helping you is already my good fortune. What’s more, during yesterday’s sparring, Mr. Gu spoke up for me and even gave me medicine; it is I who should be more grateful."
"That might be so, but the victory and Spirit Pill were rightfully earned by you, not a favor. The reason I’m here today is to present you with the token of appreciation."
With that, Gu Yao took out a luxuriously radiant brocade box from his bosom.
