Facing the Apocalypse with My Other Selves-Chapter 120 - 96: The Association’s Mighty Power Unveiled (Bonus - )
Originally, Wizard Shen Yu thought that this plague would eventually cover everyone across the entire plane in the future, meaning as many as two to three billion people.
However, because of the Magic Empire’s power, the future plague could not kill everyone anyway, so the amount of Gray Mist Shen Yu could obtain by solving the plague would be greatly reduced.
But, if the Magic Empire’s order to study the plague originated from Shen Yu, and even the might to develop the Plague Potion also came from him, then the result would be different.
Perhaps it wouldn’t compare with direct intervention, but those whom the Magic Empire could save in the future would still offer a portion of Gray Mist.
Gray Mist is causality.
The cause comes from Shen Yu; the effect is Gray Mist.
This is why every Shen Yu in every world must seize as much influence as possible, and alter civilization through his own existence.
At present, the initial goal has been achieved; Wizard Shen Yu did not waste any time.
He asked directly, "This time, I’m here to inquire about the situation in other planes. The Magic Empire should have the capability to contact other planes."
"The magic technology for cross-planar contact is extremely complex." Acosta nodded, stroked his long white beard, and his tone was somewhat grave, "We’ve managed to contact only two planes. They also received the Divine Oracle of the gods planning to destroy the world, five days ago—and one of those planes has encountered a plague as well."
Wizard Shen Yu’s eyes immediately lit up.
What did this mean?
Gray Mist!
As long as there’s enough Gray Mist, not even gods are anything to fear.
"Since it’s a plague, it should still be the handiwork of the Plague God." Wizard Shen Yu asked, "Can they teleport the pathogen here? If it’s the same pathogen, I can provide medicine right away."
However, Acosta shook his head.
"Contacting between planes is extremely complicated; right now we can only send messages, and that is already incredibly difficult—in all history, traveling between planes has always been power reserved for the Divine Spirits alone."
"Can’t even teleport objects?" Wizard Shen Yu froze.
He honestly wasn’t familiar with this; while the existence of planes was somewhat known, he’d never heard any news about cross-planar teleportation before.
This is the highest-tier magic technology.
Wizard Shen Yu, previously, had genuinely not yet reached this level.
"If we could, I would have handed you the pathogen the moment I saw you." Acosta’s expression grew heavier.
Facing the threat of apocalypse from the gods, those other planes are natural comrades resisting the Divine Spirits.
But they could only watch helplessly as those allies died, unable to do anything.
This feeling was unpleasant, and made one feel the terror of the gods all the more.
Wizard Shen Yu also realized, if he could not participate deeply in the resistance of other planes, he’d lose not only a huge amount of Gray Mist, but also the main strength to confront the gods.
The latter was even more important. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"I understand." Wizard Shen Yu glanced at the Gray Mist he already possessed, "Leave it to me."
Acosta’s eyes bulged in surprise.
Could this be solved by some means other than magic?
But Wizard Shen Yu’s next words shattered that guess.
"I want every bit of magic technology you have, relating to cross-planar contact!" Wizard Shen Yu didn’t pause for even an instant. "All of it, right now!"
At this moment, the amount of Gray Mist he’d accumulated already far exceeded the number of people actually infected.
It had reached over four hundred million.
Which made sense, since the source of this plague’s outbreak seemed to be a Duke’s Territory on the northern border of the Violet Kingdom. By resolving the plague within Violet first, even without fully eliminating it, the time the plague would take to spread across the entire plane could be vastly reduced.
Given the known fact that the Magic Empire could possibly solve the plague, time now meant they’d already saved countless lives.
This side of it owed thanks to the Magic Empire’s capability.
Otherwise, Wizard Shen Yu would have only saved the whole plane after fully eradicating all traces of the plague.
But with time so critical, four or five hundred million Gray Mist now was far more valuable than billions just days later!
"Alright." Acosta understood by now, Wizard Shen Yu was clearly planning to solve the problem from the perspective of magic.
And he was starting from their existing research!
This was even more shocking than trying to solve it from any other angle!
To extend and vastly surpass their research in such a short span.
Acosta even wondered, could even gods achieve this?
Yet thinking of the mighty power he had just sensed, his heart beat uncontrollably.
Acosta’s efficiency was exceptionally high. They’d already developed magic for quick data search; in the largest magical archive of the Empire, the documents came flying out one after another, stacking simply before Wizard Shen Yu.
These records piled up and filled five whole rooms!
Proof of the difficulty of the subject matter.
Normally, sorting through the documents in those five rooms would require at least several months.
Yet in front of Gray Mist, that much work amounted to nothing.
Wizard Shen Yu had just inquired about how much Gray Mist it would cost to obtain that kind of cross-planar teleportation technology.
The answer was [Four hundred fifty-three million].
Wizard Shen Yu now had enough Gray Mist, but if he deducted the amount required to submit to the Association, he was still quite short.
Now then.
The answer is [Four hundred twenty-six million].
Wizard Shen Yu’s eyes went wide; for the first time, he lost his composure as he looked at the Magic Emperor.
"Your research is just scratching the surface!"
"Indeed." Acosta, who was advanced in age and held high status, respected across the plane, was now so ashamed he could barely speak.
Their research was truly shallow.
Partly because it was undeniably difficult; partly because many Mages feared to explore other planes.
They believed such things were the gods’ prerogative.
"Never mind." Wizard Shen Yu shook his head, "This is the first trial reward I obtained for overcoming Divine Punishment and saving countless people."
The pain he showed now was partly acted, but not altogether fake.
After all, having just gained such a massive amount of Gray Mist, barely had time to strengthen himself—and now had to spend it all, owing the Association a huge debt.
Nonetheless, he did not hesitate in the slightest.
Everything was for a greater victory!
He produced a card and, in front of Acosta, pressed it to the array of documents.
In an instant, a gentle glow enveloped the entire chamber; then, like a flood, it receded, finally transmuting into a pale golden cube crystal, floating above Wizard Shen Yu’s palm.
He closed his eyes, carefully absorbing the entire contents of the technology.
Then, he took a deep look at Acosta.
And tossed the crystal directly to him.
"Take a look. Just input Magic Power."
The light smile at his lips betrayed his mood entirely.
The previous plague had been settled by interstellar world Shen Yu.
But this time, it would count as the Association’s mighty power, demonstrated for the very first time in this world!
Acosta cradled the never-before-seen crystal with the utmost caution; then carefully fed in Magic Power. The instant he sensed the torrent of information, he gasped aloud.
Even his hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
His eyes brimmed with endless fervor.
"Perfect. Absolutely perfect!"
Even with expectations raised to the utmost, reality still delivered a massive shock.
What truly stunned him, though, was not what the technology was itself.
But that this technology—was exactly derived from the research path they’d followed!
What Mighty Power this was!
