Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible-Chapter 231: I Don’t Think You’re Supposed To Cultivate Like This
Han Xuhan returned to his hut in high spirits. The day’s events had gone exactly the way he had planned.
Duping the entire outer court into thinking that a mysterious and knowledgeable senior brother was really backing him? Done!
Reinforcing their belief and confidence in the value of his law lectures? Mission accomplished!
Shedding his old identity as a renowned trash of his generation? A resounding success!
Power, influence, and competence, these three factors were critical in establishing his brand of business in the Crimson Snow Sect. He had successfully built a great momentum today.
"I have to thank senior brother Chen Yan for his generosity. He did me a solid favor by attempting to humiliate me in front of so many people, hahahaha!"
Chen Yan was busy thinking all day about how he could fleece Han Xuhan for resources. In the meantime, Han Xuhan was busy coming up with all sorts of counters through which he could exploit Chen Yan’s plans.
He had used Jiang Chen, Miss Mei, and Yang Kai to polish his martial prowess. The duels with them were actually much more interesting compared to fighting Xiao Wu or Xuanyuan Zhou.
They treated him as a genuine enemy, someone they wanted to beat the shit out of, whereas his own martial siblings always held back their true capabilities in fear of causing serious injuries.
These duels were also a form of indirect exchange with Senior Brother Chen Yan. While he cut off Chen Yan’s arms one by one, Chen Yan managed to gauge the extent of his capabilities, his trump cards, and his tactics.
Hence, as Han Xuhan grew in terms of strength and confidence, the information in Chen Yan’s hands about him also became more detailed, like a fuzzy image on a mirror becoming clear.
By now, with a good enough strategy, Chen Yan could train any of his half-decent followers into becoming a weapon that could perfectly counter Han Xuhan and defeat him for good.
That way, he would never need to personally get involved in the fleecing process, enjoying the benefits from the shadows.
"The next exchange with Senior Brother is going to be the real challenge. Let’s see if he can bring me a surprise..."
Worrying about it was pointless. The best thing he could do now was to keep improving himself, hoping that even if he was caught off guard, he could find a way out.
Night fell soon, but nobody inside his hut slept a wink, all three absorbed in their own cultivation.
First, Han Xuhan checked the state of his foundation tower, since there was a new change in it.
The change was the result of breaking past the first layer of the False Remembrance Illusion Art, his most recent accomplishment in the path of Mystic cultivation.
Fortunately, it wasn’t something unique or inexplicable like the other developments inside the tower. The breakthrough had simply created a new, empty room attached to the main building.
Now, there were two main rooms and two subordinate rooms. Each main room was the reflection of his spiritual foundation in a Mystic Art, and each subordinate room was the reflection of his minions’ spiritual foundation in their own Mystic Arts.
The dome, a reflection of his status as an Alphabet Acolyte in the path of law cultivation, was now positioned above the central area of the building, its weight shared by the two main rooms.
Han Xuhan spent some time in his new room. Although it looked empty, it was different from the room produced by the Skeleton Monarch Technique.
When he was inside this room, he could manifest some of his recent memories, especially scenes that he could recall in detail. Then he could conjure new scenes with careful effort by relying on those memories, and experiment with them.
In the real world, being just a beginner in the False Remembrance Illusion Art, his abilities weren’t so exaggerated.
According to the manual, all he could do while cultivating the second layer was to plant a weak idea or a fake detail inside a real memory in his target’s mind.
The target also had to be sufficiently weak for the trick to work. Animals, weak-willed mortals, and cultivators suffering spiritual backlash were the only ones he could cast the technique on.
As for feats like instantly casting illusions to fool strong cultivators, planting lengthy sets of fake memories, and tricking people in groups, these abilities would only be accessible at the last few layers of the Mystic Art.
The manual explicitly warned the practitioners about how difficult cultivating those layers was. The volume of data one had to handle, the number of factors to consider, and the complexity of the skills they had to master—all were beyond the means of ordinary Mystic Artists.
For this exact reason, the creator of this Mystic Art had gone through great pains to design a ’preview’ feature, so that rookie practitioners like Han Xuhan could get a taste of the good stuff early on and continue to persevere.
Inside the foundation tower, in the room produced by the Mystic Art, his spiritual body could experience some of those advanced abilities of the Mystic Art without directly cultivating to the required stage.
This phenomenon of disparity between his spiritual self and real self was actually something Han Xuhan had witnessed before.
As a law cultivator, he could perform some fairly advanced actions inside the artificial realm of laws; actions that he wouldn’t be able to do in the real world anytime soon.
It made him wonder. Among the three Mystic Arts he had practiced so far, only the Skeleton Monarch Technique didn’t provide such benefits to his spiritual form.
"Is there something unusual about it that I haven’t yet detected? Or did I just get lucky with the other two techniques?"
Nevertheless, he wasn’t going to complain about it, because his original plan to use the False Remembrance Illusion Art was now much closer to fruition compared to his initial estimates.
Aiming to give it a shot tonight, he called over Zhanxian and Tun Shi Tian inside the room.
"Both of you are not only a product of my foundation tower, but also partial owners of this tower. Since our authority here is intermixed, it means that you should be able to exercise a minor degree of authority over the characteristics of this room, mirroring me."
To introduce the basic concept of the False Remembrance Illusion Art to the minions, he showed them some of his experiments with fresh memories.
In the eyes of a person from Earth, what he did was practically a visual demonstration of a super-powerful video editing tool. Although the minions found it unfamiliar and novel, they were unusually quick in adapting to it and comprehending the tricks involved.
"Not bad," Han Xuhan remarked after testing how much they had understood.
"But even at this rate, it’ll take a long time for you two to make significant breakthroughs on this Mystic Art."
"I doubt it," Tun Shi Tian muttered, probably feeling insulted.
"This is not much more difficult than the Artificial Meridian Creation Technique. Give me a couple of weeks and-"
"That’s a pretty long time in my book, Little Tian," Han Xuhan said, wearing a signature look of superiority.
"What’s with that face? I bet you wouldn’t be able to cross the first layer of this technique even if you were given a whole month-"
Zhanxian slapped the back of the stupid owl’s head, cutting him off. "You dare talk back to our master, junior? Courting death!"
Han Xuhan didn’t know whether he should feel pleased or not. His eldest minion was slowly embodying the role of a good subordinate, but why did he sound like one of those cannon fodder villains?
Tun Shi Tian looked ready to start a fight, so Zhanxian said again in a patient tone, "Little Tian, we must not mock people for their disabilities. We have to be considerate towards cripples like our Master. Otherwise, he could cripple you too and turn you into a loser."
"...."
Both Han Xuhan and Tun Shi Tian were rendered speechless. Digesting his complex emotions, Han Xuhan picked up the conversation once more.
"As I was saying, we must not stick to the traditional route when we can make our own shortcuts. If we use our brains properly, we can cut down the time needed to cultivate any Mystic Art by a huge margin, by simply relying on this room."
"How?" Both minions asked simultaneously.
"First, I shall plant my memories of creating illusions here into your minds. The way I’m exercising my authority, the concepts of this technique on a cerebral level, and my comprehension of its most difficult aspects... all shall be poured into your heads.
Then, the two of you will rely on those memories to leap your way towards mastering the technique. When you discover something new, some nuances that I haven’t caught yet, you’re going to spread the knowledge to us using the same method. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
With the three of us combined, no matter how difficult this Mystic Art might be, we will reach the apex layer in no time! Hahaha!"
Despite hearing his confident laugh, the minions didn’t seem quite convinced.
Zhanxian voiced his doubts.
"Master, are you sure this was how the creator of this Mystic Art intended it to be cultivated? Exploiting such a loophole, we won’t mess up this foundation tower even more, will we?"
Han Xuhan’s laughter came to an abrupt stop.
