Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible-Chapter 126: Precipice Of A Prophecy
Chapter 126: Precipice Of A Prophecy
Shen Kai stood stock still inside the quiet woods, dumbfounded.
"Did the guy I was looking for just pass me by? Moreover, he said something along the lines of demonic cultivators chasing him?
"Wait a damn minute, where did these ’demonic cultivators’ come from? Those guys think I am a demonic cultivator! How come I haven’t received any news of my fellow martial siblings coming here? This entire Pine Town project was under my control!"
"Even more importantly, how the hell did that guy run so fast? With his shitty Mystic Art based foundation, it’s impossible for him to be that quick. And his body looks different too. Was it my eyes deceiving me or did I just imagine the familiarity in that voice?"
Shen Kai fell deep in thought. But he didn’t get the chance to sort the issues out. The woods ahead no longer seemed quiet. Not to mention noises of people shouting and crying, Shen Kai could even sense the chaotic flux of qi approaching him like an unstoppable oceanic tide.
Cautiously, he climbed halfway onto a tree and surveyed what was going on. Several figures were visible not too far away, running toward his direction from the depths of the woods.
One of them looked rather familiar. Although he was masked, wearing a different, tattered robe, Shen Kai easily recognized that silhouette as he whizzed past the tree he was on.
Wasn’t this guy Mu Ran?!
Then the guy he had met earlier had to be Han Xuhan!
Following Mu Ran’s trails, another figure ran by. Shen Kai wasn’t familiar with her, but he guessed that she might be that mysterious third member of their party, who had ambushed Shen Kai during his attempt to capture Han Xuhan.
And judging by her frantic sprint, she seemed to be running away from something as well. Shen Kai recalled that her cultivation base was at least at the peak of the first major realm of cultivation. What could possibly threaten her in these woods?
Who the hell was impersonating demonic cultivators and chasing these guys?
Shen Kai’s curiosity was piqued. With his current cultivation base, there were few cultivators under the soul reformation realm who could catch him if he tried to escape. So he decided to take a look at what the threat was before hiding.
Now that he had found Han Xuhan’s trail, it would hardly be a problem to track that bastard down again. First, he needed to investigate this case of identity theft.
About half a minute after the girl’s silhouette had disappeared beyond the dense stretch of trees, Shen Kai saw movement in front of him again.
It was also a team of three this time. Shen Kai couldn’t recognize any of their faces. But none of them looked like someone running away. The determination in their steps and sharp, searching looks in every direction hinted at the fact that they were the ones chasing the previous trio.
Shen Kai, sitting on the not-so-high tree branch, attracted their attention easily. His calm eyes met their intense gazes and the three pursuers came to a halt. freewёbnoνel-com
Shen Kai’s body consciously began to emit the violent aura of a cultivator at the late stages of the core Mystic Art. He wanted to see whether these cultivators dared to keep up the pretense!
Choosing to fish for information first, the leader of the trio called out to him politely.
"Fellow cultivator, have you seen three cultivators running past this area?"
"Yes. They ran that way." Shen Kai pointed in a random direction. There were some tracks left by the runners that would support his answer even if they were to investigate it closely.
"Thank you, fellow cultivator," the leader of the trio said as he headed that way immediately, giving Shen Kai a wide berth. His teammates followed his footsteps faultlessly.
Shen Kai vaguely sensed something odd about these three cultivators. But he couldn’t detect what it exactly was.
However, there was one thing he was sure of. These guys were by no means a part of any local sect, let alone being part of any ’demonic’ sects.
Then why the hell did Han Xuhan yell out a warning about demonic cultivators?
From which angle did these three cowards look like demonic cultivators?
Just as they were about to disappear from his sight while following the direction he had guided them to, Shen Kai sensed another team of cultivators rushing toward the area.
This was a team of four. All of them were considerably powerful, with most of their cultivation bases at the upper layers of the first major realm. Upon discovering Shen Kai, they didn’t become as nervous as their predecessors.
Shen Kai’s ears also picked up the way the rapid footsteps of the trio behind him were quieting down. He could tell that those guys weren’t moving. Turning his head a little, he noticed them trying to hide behind a large thicket.
Is this an ambush?
A frown emerged on his face. Wasn’t their teamwork a bit too great? The first team hadn’t sent any information back to the team following behind them. Neither had the second team exchanged any information with their predecessors. Yet they could seamlessly prepare to ambush him from both directions?
Why does it feel like their target has shifted from Han Xuhan and his associates to me?
The four newcomers fanned out and cautiously approached the tree he was on. Shen Kai didn’t need to turn around to sense the qi fluctuations behind him from the hiding trio.
"Fellow cultivator, what is your identity?" One of the cultivators in front of him politely asked, probably hoping to distract him.
Shen Kai laughed internally. The irony in the situation was rather striking. A bunch of kids posing as demonic cultivators trying to deceive him, out of all people.
So what if it was one versus seven? He wouldn’t fear these greenhorns even if it was one versus seventy!
"My name is Shen Kai, a cultivator from a small local sect," he answered, curious to see what these guys were up to.
But the moment the cultivators heard his name, a visible wave of uneasiness passed among them. Shen Kai felt his senses prickling.
Do they know my name...? That’s impossible.
But in the next second, all seven cultivators attacked him simultaneously. Seven different techniques were executed, with him as the target, from all four directions. Dumbfounded, Shen Kai instantly took evasive measures. His body vanished from their sight while leaped off the tree.
What happened to the whole ambush setup?
Why did everyone attack me so indiscriminately? Did my name trigger them? But it’s an alias!
Shen Kai couldn’t help but feel that something somewhere had gone terribly wrong, and he had no idea how.
