Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 335: Widow
Chapter 335: Widow
The moment Ren was yanked into the mist, he was assaulted by chaos.
Loud sounds, bright flashes of light, everything that could be done to make him disoriented.
And it would’ve worked, if not for the fact that he had spent years on a battlefield where one needs to be able to fight without batting an eye, whatever happened. He’d once fought while standing on a man’s guts as the man cried himself to death on the floor.
His head was on a swivel, trying to make out the Widow in the mist as the ground grew closer. The mist blanketed everything, and so, he activated his Push resonance, clearing a space within the mist with a woosh.
There!
The mist web attached to his leg was connected to a giant spider in the middle of the cleared space.
The spider was nothing like he’d imagined. Its carapace was dark, almost black, with bright red highlights. Its bulbous eyes were arranged on its head, shining subtly with a crimson light.
Ren stretched a hand towards it, and released a large blast of kinetic energy. There was a woosh as the attack hit, and the Widow shattered like glass, its body dissolving into mist. It had been an illusion!
"Fuck."
Ren only had time to swear before he hit the ground hard. A flash of pain burst through his back and shoulders. He rolled to his knees, gasping, every breath dragging in more cold mist. Everything felt distant, numb.
The mist rushed in through the space he’d cleared, obscuring everything once again.
Ren shuddered as the mist crawled over his skin. It wasn’t a simple fog. It was thick, wet, and suffocating. It clung to every inch of his body, crawled under his clothes, filled his nose and ears until it felt like he was swimming in wool.
For a moment, he couldn’t see, and couldn’t breathe. Then, he covered himself in his soul energy, relieving the pressure upon him.
"What the...?"
The mist wasn’t just a web or illusions. It could also constrict the muscles in an insidious way that not even Unfettered Enhancement was aware of. If he hadn’t utilized his soul energy, he might still be stuck in place!
He looked down to see that the web was still wrapped around his leg.
His eyes widened. The web had led to an illusion and he had shattered it. How was it still attached to him?
He didn’t like the implications of this. It meant that either the Widow could manipulate his senses as long as the mist web was touching him, or it was so skilled with illusions that one didn’t even need to be inside the mist to fall prey to it.
Either way, it was very powerful, just like Dario had said.
And so, he reached down and tore at it, only for his fingers to pass through it like smoke.
"What the..."
The web was somehow not a web. It was not silk. It was just mist. And somehow, it was able to cling to him and hold him in place.
Without another word, he stretched a hand towards his leg and fired a kinetic blast. His leg shattered, slipping out of the mist.
He leapt away before the mist could close in again, his leg regenerating back into place.
And that was when the sound came.
Click. Click. Click.
It echoed unnaturally, bouncing around him from all directions. He rose slowly to his feet, bracers humming, his body tense.
The mist shifted. Shapes flickered through it, too fast to identify. His heartbeat thundered in his ears.
"Push."
A blast of resonance erupted around him, clearing a circle of mist. Nothing.
Then the Widow arrived.
It didn’t skitter or leap. It simply appeared, stepping through the mist as if it were a curtain.
Now that he was seeing it up close, Ren realized that it stood as tall as a horse, just as Dario had said.
Its legs were long and needle-thin, and all eight eyes of it glowed a faint red.
Its body was armored, jagged, like its carapace had grown around old wounds. The mist clung to it like a cloak, steaming from its joints. Its presence pulled the temperature down even further.
It moved slowly at first, tilting its head, watching him.
Then it attacked.
It blurred.
Ren barely threw himself aside before a leg came down where he’d stood, cracking the stone. He leapt back and activated his bracers.
He shot forward, striking the side of the creature with a shoulder bash reinforced with kinetic force. It barely flinched.
A leg slammed into him, fast and sharp like a sword. He tried to block, but it shattered his arm and sent him flying. He hit the ground hard, ribs howling in pain. freeweɓnovel~cѳm
The impact dazed him, but he forced himself up, his arms hanging off him by pieces of flesh.
He winced at the pain, but his eyes never left the Widow. The broken arm was already healing, bones knitting back together with slow creaks. Blood filled his mouth. He spat it out.
The Widow advanced.
He leapt away, firing off a flurry of kinetic blasts. They struck the creature in the face, staggering it slightly. He followed up with a Push-propelled leap, twisting in the air to bring both feet down on its back.
It buckled, but then slammed him into the ground with a back leg. His vision exploded with stars. Before he could do anything else, its front leg descended, pulverizing his torso.
Ren screamed in pain, his soul energy surging within him like a torrent to knit back his destroyed flesh.
The Widow tilted its head, staring curiously at him. Then, she raised a leg, bringing it down again.
With a Push, Ren sailed out of the way of the attack, bouncing all over the floor. His hand was on his stomach, stopping his guts from spilling all over the floor as he regenerated the damage.
"Shit."
He could see it. There was no way for him to win this. His only option was to find a way to escape.
His stomach finally closed and he rose to his feet.
The Widow blurred towards him, the movement sending him flying. He had his Push focused on the creature. If it comes close to him, its movement will keep Pushing him away.
The creature screeched, its eyes shining with intelligence. It could tell what Ren was trying to do.
So, it skidded to a stop, its legs digging into the rock.
There was a slight wish, and a web blurred through the air, faster than Ren could react, wrapping around his torso. He stared down at the mist web, his eyes wide.
"Oh, shit."
The Widow yanked him to itself, overpowering his Push resonance with the power behind the pool.
Its leg descended towards him, and with a Push, he slithered past it to land on its face. His fingers blurred towards its eyes, intending to blind it, but before the attack could hit, a pane of mist appeared between his hand and its eyes.
His hand hit the pane and it shattered, but that created a temporary stutter in speed, enough for the Widow to capitalize.
It yanked down on the web around Ren’s torso, smashing him into the ground.
The rock shattered, kicking up a slight plume of dust and snow.
Then, the legs descended. Again and again, they tore through him, cutting faster than his regeneration could repair.
The speed of the Widow’s legs was faster than anything he’d ever faced before. It descended, leaving after images in the air, slicing, stabbing, and crushing him.
But he didn’t die. Not fully. Each time his body failed, it pulled itself back together. His bones reknit. His muscles stitched. His organs mended. His soul energy burned itself at an alarming rate.
But it was agony. It was endless. A cycle of death and resurrection. Each time he regenerated, there was more pain waiting for him. Each time, a little less of his strength came back.
"RAAARGH!" He roared, using every drop of kinetic energy within his bracers, shooting the torrent at the Widow.
The creature was knocked high into the air, before landing on its side, its mists pulling it to its feet.
Ren stood, the sounds of loud cracking filling the air as his bones knitted themselves together.
He stared at the creature, his mind working on a way out of this. He couldn’t defeat this creature. Not as he was now. It had tanked the same hit that had shattered the mantis they’d faced back at the Echo Flats and walked it off like it was nothing.
The creature stared at Ren, its eyes narrowed. Its mouth opened, revealing barbed fangs and a long, dripping tongue of mist.
Then it screeched.
The sound shattered the mist for a moment. Ren clutched his ears, screaming. Blood ran from his nose.
The widow surged forward, its body glowing faintly now. Mist gathered around its limbs, becoming blades. Its speed increased, and Ren couldn’t even see its movements anymore.
It was done toying.
Ren prepared himself for death again. This time, he didn’t think he’d survive it.
A streak of blue cut through the mist.
A knife whistled past Ren’s head and embedded itself in one of the widow’s eyes. It shrieked.
Ren turned.
Lilith stood there, eyes glowing, knives in both hands.
"I told you to stay safe!"
